Surah 21

Al-Anbiyaa

The Prophets

سُورَةُ الأَنبِيَاءِ

Meccan 112 Verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1

Ayah 1

Iqtaraba lilnnasi hisabuhum wahum fee ghaflatin muAAridoona

Aqtaraba Lilnnāsi Ĥisābuhum Wa Hum Fī Ghaflatin Mu`riđūna

Mankind’s reckoning has drawn near to them, yet they are disregardful in [their] obliviousness

Ayah 2

Ma yateehim min thikrin min rabbihim muhdathin illa istamaAAoohu wahum yalAAaboona

Mā Ya'tīhim Min Dhikrin Min Rabbihim Muĥdathin 'Illā Astama`ūhu Wa Hum Yal`abūna

There does not come to them any new reminder from their Lord but they listen to it as they play around

Ayah 3

Lahiyatan quloobuhum waasarroo alnnajwa allatheena thalamoo hal hatha illa basharun mithlukum afatatoona alssihra waantum tubsiroona

Lāhiyatan Qulūbuhum Wa 'Asarrū An-Najwá Al-Ladhīna Žalamū Hal Hādhā 'Illā Basharun Mithlukum 'Afata'tūna As-Siĥra Wa 'Antum Tubşirūna

their hearts set on diversions. The wrongdoers secretly whisper together, [saying], ‘Is this [man] not a human being like yourselves? Will you give in to magic with open eyes?’

Ayah 4

Qala rabbee yaAAlamu alqawla fee alssamai waalardi wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

Qāla Rabbī Ya`lamu Al-Qawla Fī As-Samā'i Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Huwa As-Samī`u Al-`Alīmu

He said, ‘My Lord knows every word [spoken] in the sky and on the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.’

Ayah 5

Bal qaloo adghathu ahlamin bali iftarahu bal huwa shaAAirun falyatina biayatin kama orsila alawwaloona

Bal Qālū 'Ađghāthu 'Aĥlāmin Bal Aftarāhu Bal Huwa Shā`irun Falya'tinā Bi'āyatin Kamā 'Ursila Al-'Awwalūna

But they said, ‘[They are] muddled dreams!’ ‘Indeed, he has fabricated it!’ ‘Indeed, he is a poet!’ ‘Let him bring us a sign, like those sent to the former generations.’

Ayah 6

Ma amanat qablahum min qaryatin ahlaknaha afahum yuminoona

Mā 'Āmanat Qablahum Min Qaryatin 'Ahlaknāhā 'Afahum Yu'uminūna

No town that We destroyed before them believed. Will these then have faith [if they are sent signs]

Ayah 7

Wama arsalna qablaka illa rijalan noohee ilayhim faisaloo ahla alththikri in kuntum la taAAlamoona

Wa Mā 'Arsalnā Qablaka 'Illā Rijālāan Nūĥī 'Ilayhim Fās'alū 'Ahla Adh-Dhikri 'In Kuntum Lā Ta`lamūna

We did not send [any apostles] before you except as men to whom We revealed. Ask the People of the Reminder if you do not know

Ayah 8

Wama jaAAalnahum jasadan la yakuloona alttaAAama wama kanoo khalideena

Wa Mā Ja`alnāhum Jasadāan Lā Ya'kulūna Aţ-Ţa`āma Wa Mā Kānū Khālidīna

We did not make them bodies that did not eat food, nor were they immortal

Ayah 9

Thumma sadaqnahumu alwaAAda faanjaynahum waman nashao waahlakna almusrifeena

Thumma Şadaqnāhumu Al-Wa`da Fa'anjaynāhum Wa Man Nashā'u Wa 'Ahlaknā Al-Musrifīna

Then We fulfilled Our promise to them, and We delivered them and whomever We wished, and We destroyed the transgressors

Ayah 10

Laqad anzalna ilaykum kitaban feehi thikrukum afala taAAqiloona

Laqad 'Anzalnā 'Ilaykum Kitābāan Fīhi Dhikrukum 'Afalā Ta`qilūna

Certainly We have sent down to you a Book in which there is an admonition for you. Do you not exercise your reason

Ayah 11

Wakam qasamna min qaryatin kanat thalimatan waanshana baAAdaha qawman akhareena

Wa Kam Qaşamnā Min Qaryatin Kānat Žālimatan Wa 'Ansha'nā Ba`dahā Qawmāan 'Ākharīna

How many a town We have smashed that had been wrongdoing, and We brought forth another people after it

Ayah 12

Falamma ahassoo basana itha hum minha yarkudoona

Falammā 'Aĥassū Ba'sanā 'Idhā Hum Minhā Yarkuđūna

So when they sighted Our punishment, behold, they ran away from it

13

Ayah 13

La tarkudoo wairjiAAoo ila ma otriftum feehi wamasakinikum laAAallakum tusaloona

Lā Tarkuđū Wa Arji`ū 'Ilá Mā 'Utriftum Fīhi Wa Masākinikum La`allakum Tus'alūna

‘Do not run away! Return to the opulence you were given to enjoy and to your dwellings so that you may be questioned!’

Ayah 14

Qaloo ya waylana inna kunna thalimeena

Qālū Yā Waylanā 'Innā Kunnā Žālimīna

They said, ‘Woe to us! We have indeed been wrongdoers!’

15

Ayah 15

Fama zalat tilka daAAwahum hatta jaAAalnahum haseedan khamideena

Famā Zālat Tilka Da`wāhum Ĥattá Ja`alnāhum Ĥaşīdāan Khāmidīna

That remained their cry until We turned them into a mown field, stilled [like burnt ashes]

16

Ayah 16

Wama khalaqna alssamaa waalarda wama baynahuma laAAibeena

Wa Mā Khalaqnā As-Samā'a Wa Al-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Lā`ibīna

We did not create the sky and the earth and whatever is between them for play

17

Ayah 17

Law aradna an nattakhitha lahwan laittakhathnahu min ladunna in kunna faAAileena

Law 'Aradnā 'An Nattakhidha Lahwan Lāttakhadhnāhu Min Ladunnā 'In Kunnā Fā`ilīna

Had We desired to take up some diversion We would have taken it up with Ourselves, were We to do [so]

Ayah 18

Bal naqthifu bialhaqqi AAala albatili fayadmaghuhu faitha huwa zahiqun walakumu alwaylu mimma tasifoona

Bal Naqdhifu Bil-Ĥaqqi `Alá Al-Bāţili Fayadmaghuhu Fa'idhā Huwa Zāhiqun Wa Lakumu Al-Waylu Mimmā Taşifūna

Indeed, We hurl the truth against falsehood, and it crushes its head, and behold, falsehood vanishes! And woe to you for what you allege [about Allah]

Ayah 19

Walahu man fee alssamawati waalardi waman AAindahu la yastakbiroona AAan AAibadatihi wala yastahsiroona

Wa Lahu Man Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Man `Indahu Lā Yastakbirūna `An `Ibādatihi Wa Lā Yastaĥsirūna

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and those who are near Him do not disdain to worship Him, nor do they become weary

20

Ayah 20

Yusabbihoona allayla waalnnahara la yafturoona

Yusabbiĥūna Al-Layla Wa An-Nahāra Lā Yafturūna

They glorify [Him] night and day, and they do not flag

21

Ayah 21

Ami ittakhathoo alihatan mina alardi hum yunshiroona

Am Attakhadhū 'Ālihatan Mina Al-'Arđi Hum Yunshirūna

Have they taken gods from the earth who raise [the dead]

22

Ayah 22

Law kana feehima alihatun illa Allahu lafasadata fasubhana Allahi rabbi alAAarshi AAamma yasifoona

Law Kāna Fīhimā 'Ālihatun 'Illā Allāhu Lafasadatā Fasubĥāna Allāhi Rabbi Al-`Arshi `Ammā Yaşifūna

Had there been any gods in them other than Allah, they would surely have fallen apart. Clear is Allah, the Lord of the Throne, of what they allege [concerning Him]

Ayah 23

La yusalu AAamma yafAAalu wahum yusaloona

Lā Yus'alu `Ammā Yaf`alu Wa Hum Yus'alūna

He is not questioned concerning what He does, but they are questioned

24

Ayah 24

Ami ittakhathoo min doonihi alihatan qul hatoo burhanakum hatha thikru man maAAiya wathikru man qablee bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona alhaqqa fahum muAAridoona

Am Attakhadhū Min Dūnihi 'Ālihatan Qul Hātū Burhānakum Hādhā Dhikru Man Ma`iya Wa Dhikru Man Qablī Bal 'Aktharuhum Lā Ya`lamūna Al-Ĥaqqa Fahum Mu`riđūna

Have they taken gods besides Him? Say, ‘Produce your evidence! This is a precept of those who are with me, and a precept of those [who went] before me.’ But most of them do not know the truth, and so they are disregardful

25

Ayah 25

Wama arsalna min qablika min rasoolin illa noohee ilayhi annahu la ilaha illa ana faoAAbudooni

Wa Mā 'Arsalnā Min Qablika Min Rasūl 'Iinillā Nūĥī 'Ilayhi 'Annahu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā 'Anā Fā`budūni

We did not send any apostle before you but that We revealed to him that ‘There is no god except Me; so worship Me.’

26

Ayah 26

Waqaloo ittakhatha alrrahmanu waladan subhanahu bal AAibadun mukramoona

Wa Qālū Attakhadha Ar-Raĥmānu Waladāan Subĥānahu Bal `Ibādun Mukramūna

They say, ‘The All-beneficent has taken offsprings.’ Immaculate is He! Indeed, they are [His] honoured servants

27

Ayah 27

La yasbiqoonahu bialqawli wahum biamrihi yaAAmaloona

Lā Yasbiqūnahu Bil-Qawli Wa Hum Bi'amrihi Ya`malūna

They do not venture to speak ahead of Him, and they act by His command

28

Ayah 28

YaAAlamu ma bayna aydeehim wama khalfahum wala yashfaAAoona illa limani irtada wahum min khashyatihi mushfiqoona

Ya`lamu Mā Bayna 'Aydīhim Wa Mā Khalfahum Wa Lā Yashfa`ūna 'Illā Limani Artađá Wa Hum Min Khashyatihi Mushfiqūna

He knows that which is before them and that which is behind them, and they do not intercede except for someone He approves of, and they are apprehensive for the fear of Him

29

Ayah 29

Waman yaqul minhum innee ilahun min doonihi fathalika najzeehi jahannama kathalika najzee alththalimeena

Wa Man Yaqul Minhum 'Innī 'Ilahun Min Dūnihi Fadhālika Najzīhi Jahannama Kadhālika Najzī Až-Žālimīna

Should any of them say, ‘I am a god besides Him,’ We will requite him with hell. Thus do We requite the wrongdoers

30

Ayah 30

Awalam yara allatheena kafaroo anna alssamawati waalarda kanata ratqan fafataqnahuma wajaAAalna mina almai kulla shayin hayyin afala yuminoona

Awalam Yará Al-Ladhīna Kafarū 'Anna As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđa Kānatā Ratqāan Fafataqnāhumā Wa Ja`alnā Mina Al-Mā'i Kulla Shay'in Ĥayyin 'Afalā Yu'uminūna

Have the faithless not regarded that the heavens and the earth were interwoven and We unravelled them, and We made every living thing out of water? Will they not then have faith

31

Ayah 31

WajaAAalna fee alardi rawasiya an tameeda bihim wajaAAalna feeha fijajan subulan laAAallahum yahtadoona

Wa Ja`alnā Fī Al-'Arđi Rawāsiya 'An Tamīda Bihim Wa Ja`alnā Fīhā Fijājāan Subulāan La`allahum Yahtadūna

We set firm mountains in the earth lest it should shake with them, and We made broad ways in them so that they may be guided [to their destinations]

32

Ayah 32

WajaAAalna alssamaa saqfan mahfoothan wahum AAan ayatiha muAAridoona

Wa Ja`alnā As-Samā'a Saqfāan Maĥfūžāan Wa Hum `An 'Āyātihā Mu`riđūna

We made the sky a preserved roof and yet they are disregardful of its signs

33

Ayah 33

Wahuwa allathee khalaqa allayla waalnnahara waalshshamsa waalqamara kullun fee falakin yasbahoona

Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Khalaqa Al-Layla Wa An-Nahāra Wa Ash-Shamsa Wa Al-Qamara Kullun Fī Falakin Yasbaĥūna

It is He who created the night and the day, the sun and the moon, each swimming in an orbit

34

Ayah 34

Wama jaAAalna libasharin min qablika alkhulda afain mitta fahumu alkhalidoona

Wa Mā Ja`alnā Libasharin Min Qablika Al-Khulda 'Afa'īn Mitta Fahumu Al-Khālidūna

We did not give immortality to any human before you. If you are fated to die, will they live on forever

35

Ayah 35

Kullu nafsin thaiqatu almawti wanablookum bialshsharri waalkhayri fitnatan wailayna turjaAAoona

Kullu Nafsin Dhā'iqatu Al-Mawti Wa Nablūkum Bish-Sharri Wa Al-Khayri Fitnatan Wa 'Ilaynā Turja`ūna

Every soul shall taste death, and We will test you with good and ill by way of test, and to Us you will be brought back

36

Ayah 36

Waitha raaka allatheena kafaroo in yattakhithoonaka illa huzuwan ahatha allathee yathkuru alihatakum wahum bithikri alrrahmani hum kafiroona

Wa 'Idhā Ra'āka Al-Ladhīna Kafarū 'In Yattakhidhūnaka 'Illā Huzūan 'Ahadhā Al-Ladhī Yadhkuru 'Ālihatakum Wa Hum Bidhikri Ar-Raĥmāni Hum Kāfirūna

Whenever the faithless see you they only take you in derision: ‘Is this the one who remembers your gods?’ while they remain defiant towards the remembrance of the All-beneficent

37

Ayah 37

Khuliqa alinsanu min AAajalin saoreekum ayatee fala tastaAAjiloona

Khuliqa Al-'Insānu Min `Ajalin Sa'urīkum 'Āyātī Falā Tasta`jilūni

Man is a creature of haste. Soon I will show you My signs. So do not ask Me to hasten

38

Ayah 38

Wayaqooloona mata hatha alwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeena

Wa Yaqūlūna Matá Hādhā Al-Wa`du 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna

And they say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?’

39

Ayah 39

Law yaAAlamu allatheena kafaroo heena la yakuffoona AAan wujoohihimu alnnara wala AAan thuhoorihim wala hum yunsaroona

Law Ya`lamu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Ĥīna Lā Yakuffūna `An Wujūhihimu An-Nāra Wa Lā `An Žuhūrihim Wa Lā Hum Yunşarūna

If only the faithless knew about the time when they will not be able to keep the Fire off their faces and their backs, nor will they be helped

40

Ayah 40

Bal tateehim baghtatan fatabhatuhum fala yastateeAAoona raddaha wala hum yuntharoona

Bal Ta'tīhim Baghtatan Fatabhatuhum Falā Yastaţī`ūna Raddahā Wa Lā Hum Yunžarūna

Indeed, it will overtake them suddenly, dumbfounding them. So they will neither be able to avert it, nor will they be granted any respite

41

Ayah 41

Walaqadi istuhzia birusulin min qablika fahaqa biallatheena sakhiroo minhum ma kanoo bihi yastahzioona

Wa Laqadi Astuhzi'a Birusulin Min Qablika Faĥāqa Bial-Ladhīna Sakhirū Minhum Mā Kānū Bihi Yastahzi'ūn

Apostles were certainly derided before you; but those who ridiculed them were besieged by what they had been deriding

42

Ayah 42

Qul man yaklaokum biallayli waalnnahari mina alrrahmani bal hum AAan thikri rabbihim muAAridoona

Qul Man Yakla'uukum Bil-Layli Wa An-Nahāri Mina Ar-Raĥmāni Bal Hum `An Dhikri Rabbihim Mu`riđūna

Say, ‘Who can guard you, day and night, against [the punishment of] the All-beneficent [should He want to punish you]?’ Indeed, they are disregardful of their Lord’s remembrance

43

Ayah 43

Am lahum alihatun tamnaAAuhum min doonina la yastateeAAoona nasra anfusihim wala hum minna yushaboona

Am Lahum 'Ālihatun Tamna`uhum Min Dūninā Lā Yastaţī`ūna Naşra 'Anfusihim Wa Lā Hum Minnā Yuşĥabūna

Do they have gods besides Us to defend them? Neither can they help themselves, nor can they shield [the idolaters] from Us

44

Ayah 44

Bal mattaAAna haolai waabaahum hatta tala AAalayhimu alAAumuru afala yarawna anna natee alarda nanqusuha min atrafiha afahumu alghaliboona

Bal Matta`nā Hā'uulā' Wa 'Ābā'ahum Ĥattá Ţāla `Alayhimu Al-`Umuru 'Afalā Yarawna 'Annā Na'tī Al-'Arđa Nanquşuhā Min 'Aţrāfihā 'Afahumu Al-Ghālibūna

Indeed, We have provided for them and their fathers until they lived on for long years. Do they not see how We visit the land diminishing it at its edges? Are they the ones who will prevail

45

Ayah 45

Qul innama onthirukum bialwahyi wala yasmaAAu alssummu aldduAAaa itha ma yuntharoona

Qul 'Innamā 'Undhirukum Bil-Waĥyi Wa Lā Yasma`u Aş-Şummu Ad-Du`ā'a 'Idhā Mā Yundharūna

Say, ‘I indeed warn you by the means of revelation.’ But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned

46

Ayah 46

Walain massathum nafhatun min AAathabi rabbika layaqoolunna ya waylana inna kunna thalimeena

Wa La'in Massat/hum Nafĥatun Min `Adhābi Rabbika Layaqūlunna Yā Waylanā 'Innā Kunnā Žālimīna

Should a whiff of your Lord’s punishment touch them, they will surely say, ‘Woe to us! We have indeed been wrongdoers!’

47

Ayah 47

WanadaAAu almawazeena alqista liyawmi alqiyamati fala tuthlamu nafsun shayan wain kana mithqala habbatin min khardalin atayna biha wakafa bina hasibeena

Wa Nađa`u Al-Mawāzīna Al-Qisţa Liyawmi Al-Qiyāmati Falā Tužlamu Nafsun Shay'āan Wa 'In Kāna Mithqāla Ĥabbatin Min Khardalin 'Ataynā Bihā Wa Kafá Binā Ĥāsibīna

We shall set up just scales on the Day of Resurrection, and no soul will be wronged in the least. Even if it be the weight of a mustard seed We shall produce it and We suffice as reckoners

48

Ayah 48

Walaqad atayna moosa waharoona alfurqana wadiyaan wathikran lilmuttaqeena

Wa Laqad 'Ātaynā Mūsá Wa Hārūna Al-Furqāna Wa Điyā'an Wa Dhikrāan Lilmuttaqīna

Certainly We gave Moses and Aaron the Criterion, a light and reminder for the Godwary

49

Ayah 49

Allatheena yakhshawna rabbahum bialghaybi wahum mina alssaAAati mushfiqoona

Al-Ladhīna Yakhshawna Rabbahum Bil-Ghaybi Wa Hum Mina As-Sā`ati Mushfiqūna

—those who fear their Lord in secret, and who are apprehensive of the Hour

50

Ayah 50

Wahatha thikrun mubarakun anzalnahu afaantum lahu munkiroona

Wa Hadhā Dhikrun Mubārakun 'Anzalnāhu 'Afa'antum Lahu Munkirūna

This [too] is a blessed reminder, which We have sent down. Will you then deny it

51

Ayah 51

Walaqad atayna ibraheema rushdahu min qablu wakunna bihi AAalimeena

Wa Laqad 'Ātaynā 'Ibrāhīma Rushdahu Min Qablu Wa Kunnā Bihi `Ālimīna

Certainly We had given Abraham his probity before, and We knew him

52

Ayah 52

Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi ma hathihi alttamatheelu allatee antum laha AAakifoona

Idh Qāla Li'abīhi Wa Qawmihi Mā Hadhihi At-Tamāthīlu Allatī 'Antum Lahā `Ākifūna

when he said to his father and his people, ‘What are these images to which you keep on clinging?’

53

Ayah 53

Qaloo wajadna abaana laha AAabideena

Qālū Wajadnā 'Ābā'anā Lahā `Ābidīna

They said, ‘We found our fathers worshipping them.’

54

Ayah 54

Qala laqad kuntum antum waabaokum fee dalalin mubeenin

Qāla Laqad Kuntum 'Antum Wa 'Ābā'uukum Fī Đalālin Mubīnin

He said, ‘Certainly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.’

55

Ayah 55

Qaloo ajitana bialhaqqi am anta mina allaAAibeena

Qālū 'Aji'tanā Bil-Ĥaqqi 'Am 'Anta Mina Al-Lā`ibīna

They said, ‘Are you telling the truth, or are you [just] kidding?’

56

Ayah 56

Qala bal rabbukum rabbu alssamawati waalardi allathee fatarahunna waana AAala thalikum mina alshshahideena

Qāla Bal Rabbukum Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Al-Ladhī Faţarahunna Wa 'Anā `Alá Dhālikum Mina Ash-Shāhidīna

He said, ‘Indeed, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who originated them, and I affirm that

57

Ayah 57

WataAllahi laakeedanna asnamakum baAAda an tuwalloo mudbireena

Wa Tālllahi La'akīdanna 'Aşnāmakum Ba`da 'An Tuwallū Mudbirīna

By Allah, I will devise a stratagem against your idols after you have gone away.’

58

Ayah 58

FajaAAalahum juthathan illa kabeeran lahum laAAallahum ilayhi yarjiAAoona

Faja`alahum Judhādhāan 'Illā Kabīrāan Lahum La`allahum 'Ilayhi Yarji`ūna

So he broke them into pieces—all except the biggest of them—so that they might come back to it

59

Ayah 59

Qaloo man faAAala hatha bialihatina innahu lamina alththalimeena

Qālū Man Fa`ala Hādhā Bi'ālihatinā 'Innahu Lamina Až-Žālimīna

They said, ‘Whoever has done this to Our gods?! He is indeed a wrongdoer!’

60

Ayah 60

Qaloo samiAAna fatan yathkuruhum yuqalu lahu ibraheemu

Qālū Sami`nā Fatáan Yadhkuruhum Yuqālu Lahu 'Ibrāhīmu

They said, ‘We heard a young man mentioning them. He is called ‘‘Abraham.’’ ’

61

Ayah 61

Qaloo fatoo bihi AAala aAAyuni alnnasi laAAallahum yashhadoona

Qālū Fa'tū Bihi `Alá 'A`yuni An-Nāsi La`allahum Yash/hadūna

They said, ‘Bring him before the people’s eyes so that they may bear witness [against him].’

62

Ayah 62

Qaloo aanta faAAalta hatha bialihatina ya ibraheemu

Qālū 'A'anta Fa`alta Hādhā Bi'ālihatinā Yā 'Ibrāhīmu

They said, ‘Was it you who did this to our gods, O Abraham?’

63

Ayah 63

Qala bal faAAalahu kabeeruhum hatha faisaloohum in kanoo yantiqoona

Qāla Bal Fa`alahu Kabīruhum Hādhā Fās'alūhum 'In Kānū Yanţiqūna

He said, ‘No, it was this biggest one of them who did it! Ask them, if they can speak.’

64

Ayah 64

FarajaAAoo ila anfusihim faqaloo innakum antumu alththalimoona

Faraja`ū 'Ilá 'Anfusihim Faqālū 'Innakum 'Antumu Až-Žālimūna

Thereat they came to themselves and said [to one another], ‘Indeed it is you who are the wrongdoers!’

65

Ayah 65

Thumma nukisoo AAala ruoosihim laqad AAalimta ma haolai yantiqoona

Thumma Nukisū `Alá Ru'ūsihim Laqad `Alimta Mā Hā'uulā' Yanţiqūna

Then they hung their heads. [However, they said,] ‘You certainly know that they cannot speak.’

66

Ayah 66

Qala afataAAbudoona min dooni Allahi ma la yanfaAAukum shayan wala yadurrukum

Qāla 'Afata`budūna Min Dūni Allāhi Mā Lā Yanfa`ukum Shay'āan Wa Lā Yađurrukum

He said, ‘Then, do you worship besides Allah that which cannot cause you any benefit or harm

67

Ayah 67

Offin lakum walima taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi afala taAAqiloona

Uffin Lakum Wa Limā Ta`budūna Min Dūni Allāhi 'Afalā Ta`qilūna

Fie on you and what you worship besides Allah! Do you not exercise your reason?’

68

Ayah 68

Qaloo harriqoohu waonsuroo alihatakum in kuntum faAAileena

Qālū Ĥarriqūhu Wa Anşurū 'Ālihatakum 'In Kuntum Fā`ilīna

They said, ‘Burn him, and help your gods, if you are to do anything!’

69

Ayah 69

Qulna ya naru koonee bardan wasalaman AAala ibraheema

Qulnā Yā Nāru Kūnī Bardāan Wa Salāmāan `Alá 'Ibrāhīma

We said, ‘O fire! Be cool and safe for Abraham!’

70

Ayah 70

Waaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumu alakhsareena

Wa 'Arādū Bihi Kaydāan Faja`alnāhumu Al-'Akhsarīna

They plotted to harm him, but We made them the biggest losers

71

Ayah 71

Wanajjaynahu walootan ila alardi allatee barakna feeha lilAAalameena

Wa Najjaynāhu Wa Lūţāan 'Ilá Al-'Arđi Allatī Bāraknā Fīhā Lil`ālamīna

We delivered him and Lot toward the land, which We have blessed for all nations

72

Ayah 72

Wawahabna lahu ishaqa wayaAAqooba nafilatan wakullan jaAAalna saliheena

Wa Wahabnā Lahu 'Isĥāqa Wa Ya`qūba Nāfilatan Wa Kullāan Ja`alnā Şāliĥīna

And We gave him Isaac, and Jacob as well for a grandson, and each of them We made righteous

73

Ayah 73

WajaAAalnahum aimmatan yahdoona biamrina waawhayna ilayhim fiAAla alkhayrati waiqama alssalati waeetaa alzzakati wakanoo lana AAabideena

Wa Ja`alnāhum 'A'immatan Yahdūna Bi'amrinā Wa 'Awĥaynā 'Ilayhim Fi`la Al-Khayrāti Wa 'Iqāma Aş-Şalāati Wa 'Ītā'a Az-Zakāati Wa Kānū Lanā `Ābidīna

We made them imams, guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them [concerning] the performance of good deeds, the maintenance of prayers, and the giving of zakat, and they used to worship Us

74

Ayah 74

Walootan ataynahu hukman waAAilman wanajjaynahu mina alqaryati allatee kanat taAAmalu alkhabaitha innahum kanoo qawma sawin fasiqeena

Wa Lūţāan 'Ātaynāhu Ĥukmāan Wa `Ilmāan Wa Najjaynāhu Mina Al-Qaryati Allatī Kānat Ta`malu Al-Khabā'itha 'Innahum Kānū Qawma Saw'in Fāsiqīna

We gave judgement and knowledge to Lot, and We delivered him from the town which used to commit vicious acts. Indeed, they were an evil and depraved lot

Ayah 75

Waadkhalnahu fee rahmatina innahu mina alssaliheena

Wa 'Adkhalnāhu Fī Raĥmatinā 'Innahu Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna

And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was one of the righteous

76

Ayah 76

Wanoohan ith nada min qablu faistajabna lahu fanajjaynahu waahlahu mina alkarbi alAAatheemi

Wa Nūĥāan 'Idh Nādá Min Qablu Fāstajabnā Lahu Fanajjaynāhu Wa 'Ahlahu Mina Al-Karbi Al-`Ažīmi

And before that Noah, when he called out, We responded to him and delivered him and his family from the great agony

77

Ayah 77

Wanasarnahu mina alqawmi allatheena kaththaboo biayatina innahum kanoo qawma sawin faaghraqnahum ajmaAAeena

Wa Naşarnāhu Mina Al-Qawmi Al-Ladhīna Kadhabū Bi'āyātinā 'Innahum Kānū Qawma Saw'in Fa'aghraqnāhum 'Ajma`īna

And We helped him against the people who denied Our signs. They were indeed an evil lot; so We drowned them all

78

Ayah 78

Wadawooda wasulaymana ith yahkumani fee alharthi ith nafashat feehi ghanamu alqawmi wakunna lihukmihim shahideena

Wa Dāwūda Wa Sulaymāna 'Idh Yaĥkumāni Fī Al-Ĥarthi 'Idh Nafashat Fīhi Ghanamu Al-Qawmi Wa Kunnā Liĥukmihim Shāhidīna

And [remember] David and Solomon when they gave judgement concerning the tillage when the sheep of some people strayed into it by night, and We were witness to their judgement

79

Ayah 79

Fafahhamnaha sulaymana wakullan atayna hukman waAAilman wasakhkharna maAAa dawooda aljibala yusabbihna waalttayra wakunna faAAileena

Fafahhamnāhā Sulaymāna Wa Kullāan 'Ātaynā Ĥukmāan Wa `Ilmāan Wa Sakhkharnā Ma`a Dāwūda Al-Jibāla Yusabbiĥna Wa Aţ-Ţayra Wa Kunnā Fā`ilīna

We gave its understanding to Solomon, and to each We gave judgement and knowledge. We disposed the mountains and the birds to glorify [Us] with David, and We have been the doer [of these things]

80

Ayah 80

WaAAallamnahu sanAAata laboosin lakum lituhsinakum min basikum fahal antum shakiroona

Wa `Allamnāhu Şan`ata Labūsin Lakum Lituĥşinakum Min Ba'sikum Fahal 'Antum Shākirūna

We taught him the making of coats of mail for you, to protect you from your [own] violence. Will you then be grateful

81

Ayah 81

Walisulaymana alrreeha AAasifatan tajree biamrihi ila alardi allatee barakna feeha wakunna bikulli shayin AAalimeena

Wa Lisulaymāna Ar-Rīĥa `Āşifatan Tajrī Bi'amrihi 'Ilá Al-'Arđi Allatī Bāraknā Fīhā Wa Kunnā Bikulli Shay'in `Ālimīna

And [We disposed] for Solomon the tempestuous wind which blew by his command toward the land which We have blessed, and We have knowledge of all things

82

Ayah 82

Wamina alshshayateeni man yaghoosoona lahu wayaAAmaloona AAamalan doona thalika wakunna lahum hafitheena

Wa Mina Ash-Shayāţīni Man Yaghūşūna Lahu Wa Ya`malūna `Amalāan Dūna Dhālika Wa Kunnā Lahum Ĥāfižīna

Among the devils were some who dived for him and performed tasks other than that, and We were watchful over them

83

Ayah 83

Waayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya alddurru waanta arhamu alrrahimeena

Wa 'Ayyūba 'Idh Nādá Rabbahu 'Annī Massanī Ađ-Đurru Wa 'Anta 'Arĥamu Ar-Rāĥimīna

And [remember] Job, when he called out to his Lord, ‘Indeed distress has befallen me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful.’

84

Ayah 84

Faistajabna lahu fakashafna ma bihi min durrin waataynahu ahlahu wamithlahum maAAahum rahmatan min AAindina wathikra lilAAabideena

Fāstajabnā Lahu Fakashafnā Mā Bihi Min Đurrin Wa 'Ātaynāhu 'Ahlahu Wa Mithlahum Ma`ahum Raĥmatan Min `Indinā Wa Dhikrá Lil`ābidīna

So We answered his prayer and removed his distress, and We gave him [back] his family along with others like them, as a mercy from Us and an admonition for the devout

Ayah 85

WaismaAAeela waidreesa watha alkifli kullun mina alssabireena

Wa 'Ismā`īla Wa 'Idrīsa Wa Dhā Al-Kifli Kullun Mina Aş-Şābirīna

And [remember] Ishmael, Idris, and Dhul-Kifl—each of them was among the patient

86

Ayah 86

Waadkhalnahum fee rahmatina innahum mina alssaliheena

Wa 'Adkhalnāhum Fī Raĥmatinā 'Innahum Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna

We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were among the righteous

87

Ayah 87

Watha alnnooni ith thahaba mughadiban fathanna an lan naqdira AAalayhi fanada fee alththulumati an la ilaha illa anta subhanaka innee kuntu mina alththalimeena

Wa Dhā An-Nūni 'Idh Dhahaba Mughāđibāan Fažanna 'An Lan Naqdira `Alayhi Fanādá Fī Až-Žulumāti 'An Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā 'Anta Subĥānaka 'Innī Kuntu Mina Až-Žālimīna

And [remember] the Man of the Fish, when he left in a rage, thinking that We would not put him to hardship. Then he cried out in the darkness, ‘There is no god except You! You are immaculate! I have indeed been among the wrongdoers!’

88

Ayah 88

Faistajabna lahu wanajjaynahu mina alghammi wakathalika nunjee almumineena

Fāstajabnā Lahu Wa Najjaynāhu Mina Al-Ghammi Wa Kadhalika Nunjī Al-Mu'uminīna

So We answered his prayer and delivered him from the agony; and thus do We deliver the faithful

89

Ayah 89

Wazakariyya ith nada rabbahu rabbi la tatharnee fardan waanta khayru alwaritheena

Wa Zakarīyā 'Idh Nādá Rabbahu Rabbi Lā Tadharnī Fardāan Wa 'Anta Khayru Al-Wārithīna

And [remember] Zechariah, when he cried out to his Lord, ‘My Lord! Do not leave me without an heir, and You are the best of inheritors.’

90

Ayah 90

Faistajabna lahu wawahabna lahu yahya waaslahna lahu zawjahu innahum kanoo yusariAAoona fee alkhayrati wayadAAoonana raghaban warahaban wakanoo lana khashiAAeena

Fāstajabnā Lahu Wa Wahabnā Lahu Yaĥyá Wa 'Aşlaĥnā Lahu Zawjahu 'Innahum Kānū Yusāri`ūna Fī Al-Khayrāti Wa Yad`ūnanā Raghabāan Wa Rahabāan Wa Kānū Lanā Khāshi`īna

So We answered his prayer, and gave him John, and cured for him his wife [of infertility]. Indeed, they were active in [performing] good works, and they would supplicate Us with eagerness and awe and were humble before Us

91

Ayah 91

Waallatee ahsanat farjaha fanafakhna feeha min roohina wajaAAalnaha waibnaha ayatan lilAAalameena

Wa A-Atī 'Aĥşanat Farjahā Fanafakhnā Fīhā Min Rūĥinā Wa Ja`alnāhā Wa Abnahā 'Āyatan Lil`ālamīna

And [remember] her who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her Our spirit, and made her and her son a sign for all the nations

92

Ayah 92

Inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatan waana rabbukum faoAAbudooni

Inna Hadhihi 'Ummatukum 'Ummatan Wāĥidatan Wa 'Anā Rabbukum Fā`budūni

Indeed this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord. So worship Me

93

Ayah 93

WataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahum kullun ilayna rajiAAoona

Wa Taqaţţa`ū 'Amrahum Baynahum Kullun 'Ilaynā Rāji`ūna

They have fragmented their religion among themselves, but everyone of them will return to Us

94

Ayah 94

Faman yaAAmal mina alssalihati wahuwa muminun fala kufrana lisaAAyihi wainna lahu katiboona

Faman Ya`mal Mina Aş-Şāliĥāti Wa Huwa Mu'uminun Falā Kufrāna Lisa`yihi Wa 'Innā Lahu Kātibūna

Whoever is faithful and does righteous deeds, his endeavour shall not go unappreciated, and We will indeed record it for him

95

Ayah 95

Waharamun AAala qaryatin ahlaknaha annahum la yarjiAAoona

Wa Ĥarāmun `Alá Qaryatin 'Ahlaknāhā 'Annahum Lā Yarji`ūna

It is forbidden for [the people of] any town that We have destroyed [to return to the world]: they shall not return

96

Ayah 96

Hatta itha futihat yajooju wamajooju wahum min kulli hadabin yansiloona

Ĥattá 'Idhā Futiĥat Ya'jūju Wa Ma'jūju Wa Hum Min Kulli Ĥadabin Yansilūna

until when Gog and Magog are let loose, and they race down from every slope

97

Ayah 97

Waiqtaraba alwaAAdu alhaqqu faitha hiya shakhisatun absaru allatheena kafaroo ya waylana qad kunna fee ghaflatin min hatha bal kunna thalimeena

Wāqtaraba Al-Wa`du Al-Ĥaqqu Fa'idhā Hiya Shākhişatun 'Abşāru Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Yā Waylanā Qad Kunnā Fī Ghaflatin Min Hādhā Bal Kunnā Žālimīna

and the true promise draws near [to its fulfillment], behold, the faithless will look on with a fixed gaze: ‘Woe to us! We have certainly been oblivious of this! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers!’

98

Ayah 98

Innakum wama taAAbudoona min dooni Allahi hasabu jahannama antum laha waridoona

Innakum Wa Mā Ta`budūna Min Dūni Allāhi Ĥaşabu Jahannama 'Antum Lahā Wa Aridūna

Indeed you and what [idols] you worship besides Allah shall be fuel for hell, and you will enter it

99

Ayah 99

Law kana haolai alihatan ma waradooha wakullun feeha khalidoona

Law Kāna Hā'uulā' 'Ālihatan Mā Waradūhā Wa Kullun Fīhā Khālidūna

Had they been gods, they would not have entered it, and they will all remain in it [forever]

100

Ayah 100

Lahum feeha zafeerun wahum feeha la yasmaAAoona

Lahum Fīhā Zafīrun Wa Hum Fīhā Lā Yasma`ūna

Their lot therein will be groaning, and they will not hear anything in it

101

Ayah 101

Inna allatheena sabaqat lahum minna alhusna olaika AAanha mubAAadoona

Inna Al-Ladhīna Sabaqat Lahum Minnā Al-Ĥusná 'Ūlā'ika `Anhā Mub`adūna

Indeed those to whom there has gone beforehand [the promise of] the best reward from Us will be kept away from it

102

Ayah 102

La yasmaAAoona haseesaha wahum fee ma ishtahat anfusuhum khalidoona

Lā Yasma`ūna Ĥasīsahā Wa Hum Fī Mā Ashtahat 'Anfusuhum Khālidūna

They will not hear even its faint sound and they will remain [forever] in what their souls desire

103

Ayah 103

La yahzunuhumu alfazaAAu alakbaru watatalaqqahumu almalaikatu hatha yawmukumu allathee kuntum tooAAadoona

Lā Yaĥzunuhumu Al-Faza`u Al-'Akbaru Wa Tatalaqqāhumu Al-Malā'ikatu Hādhā Yawmukumu Al-Ladhī Kuntum Tū`adūna

The Great Terror will not upset them, and the angels will receive them [saying]: ‘This is your day which you were promised.’

104

Ayah 104

Yawma natwee alssamaa katayyi alssijlli lilkutubi kama badana awwala khalqin nuAAeeduhu waAAdan AAalayna inna kunna faAAileena

Yawma Naţwī As-Samā'a Kaţayyi As-Sijilli Lilkutubi Kamā Bada'nā 'Awwala Khalqin Nu`īduhu Wa`dāan `Alaynā 'Innā Kunnā Fā`ilīna

The day We shall roll up the heaven, like rolling of the scrolls [meant] for writings. We will bring it back just as We began the first creation—a promise [binding] on Us. [That] indeed We will do

105

Ayah 105

Walaqad katabna fee alzzaboori min baAAdi alththikri anna alarda yarithuha AAibadiya alssalihoona

Wa Laqad Katabnā Fī Az-Zabūri Min Ba`di Adh-Dhikri 'Anna Al-'Arđa Yarithuhā `Ibādiya Aş-Şāliĥūna

Certainly We wrote in the Psalms, after the Torah: ‘Indeed My righteous servants shall inherit the earth.’

106

Ayah 106

Inna fee hatha labalaghan liqawmin AAabideena

Inna Fī Hādhā Labalāghāan Liqawmin `Ābidīna

There is indeed in this a proclamation for a devout people

107

Ayah 107

Wama arsalnaka illa rahmatan lilAAalameena

Wa Mā 'Arsalnāka 'Illā Raĥmatan Lil`ālamīna

We did not send you but as a mercy to all the nations

108

Ayah 108

Qul innama yooha ilayya annama ilahukum ilahun wahidun fahal antum muslimoona

Qul 'Innamā Yūĥá 'Ilayya 'Annamā 'Ilahukum 'Ilahun Wāĥidun Fahal 'Antum Muslimūna

Say, ‘It has been revealed to me that your God is the One God. So will you submit?’

109

Ayah 109

Fain tawallaw faqul athantukum AAala sawain wain adree aqareebun am baAAeedun ma tooAAadoona

Fa'in Tawallaw Faqul 'Ādhantukum `Alá Sawā'in Wa 'In 'Adrī 'Aqarībun 'Am Ba`īdun Mā Tū`adūna

But if they turn away, say, ‘I have proclaimed to you all alike, and I do not know whether what you have been promised is far or near

Ayah 110

Innahu yaAAlamu aljahra mina alqawli wayaAAlamu ma taktumoona

Innahu Ya`lamu Al-Jahra Mina Al-Qawli Wa Ya`lamu Mā Taktumūna

Indeed He knows whatever is spoken aloud, and He knows whatever you conceal

111

Ayah 111

Wain adree laAAallahu fitnatun lakum wamataAAun ila heenin

Wa 'In 'Adrī La`allahu Fitnatun Lakum Wa Matā`un 'Ilá Ĥīnin

I do not know—maybe it is a trial for you and an enjoyment for a while.’

Ayah 112

Qala rabbi ohkum bialhaqqi warabbuna alrrahmanu almustaAAanu AAala ma tasifoona

Qāla Rabbi Aĥkum Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Rabbunā Ar-Raĥmānu Al-Musta`ānu `Alá Mā Taşifūna

He said, ‘My Lord! Judge [between us and the polytheists] with justice.’ ‘Our Lord is the All-beneficent; [He is our] resort against what you allege.’
