Surah 23

Al-Muminoon

The Believers

سُورَةُ المُؤۡمِنُونَ

Meccan 118 Verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1

Ayah 1

Qad aflaha almuminoona

Qad 'Aflaĥa Al-Mu'uminūna

Certainly, the faithful have attained salvation

2

Ayah 2

Allatheena hum fee salatihim khashiAAoona

Al-Ladhīna Hum Fī Şalātihim Khāshi`ūna

—those who are humble in their prayers

3

Ayah 3

Waallatheena hum AAani allaghwi muAAridoona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Ani Al-Laghwi Mu`riđūna

avoid vain talk

4

Ayah 4

Waallatheena hum lilzzakati faAAiloona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lilzzakāati Fā`ilūna

carry out their [duty of] zakat

5

Ayah 5

Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lifurūjihim Ĥāfižūna

guard their private parts

6

Ayah 6

Illa AAala azwajihim aw ma malakat aymanuhum fainnahum ghayru maloomeena

Illā `Alá 'Azwājihim 'W Mā Malakat 'Aymānuhum Fa'innahum Ghayru Malūmīna

except from their spouses or their slave women, for then they are not blameworthy

7

Ayah 7

Famani ibtagha waraa thalika faolaika humu alAAadoona

Famani Abtaghá Warā'a Dhālika Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-`Ādūna

but whoever seeks [anything] beyond that—it is they who are transgressors

8

Ayah 8

Waallatheena hum liamanatihim waAAahdihim raAAoona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Li'mānātihim Wa `Ahdihim Rā`ūna

and those who keep their trusts and covenants

9

Ayah 9

Waallatheena hum AAala salawatihim yuhafithoona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalawātihim Yuĥāfižūna

and are watchful of their prayers

10

Ayah 10

Olaika humu alwarithoona

Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Wārithūna

It is they who will be the inheritors

11

Ayah 11

Allatheena yarithoona alfirdawsa hum feeha khalidoona

Al-Ladhīna Yarithūna Al-Firdawsa Hum Fīhā Khālidūna

who shall inherit paradise and will remain in it [forever]

12

Ayah 12

Walaqad khalaqna alinsana min sulalatin min teenin

Wa Laqad Khalaqnā Al-'Insāna Min Sulālatin Min Ţīnin

Certainly We created man from an extract of clay

13

Ayah 13

Thumma jaAAalnahu nutfatan fee qararin makeenin

Thumma Ja`alnāhu Nuţfatan Fī Qarārin Makīnin

Then We made him a drop of [seminal] fluid [lodged] in a secure abode

14

Ayah 14

Thumma khalaqna alnnutfata AAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatan fakhalaqna almudghata AAithaman fakasawna alAAithama lahman thumma anshanahu khalqan akhara fatabaraka Allahu ahsanu alkhaliqeena

Thumma Khalaqnā An-Nuţfata `Alaqatan Fakhalaqnā Al-`Alaqata Muđghatan Fakhalaqnā Al-Muđghata `Ižāmāan Fakasawnā Al-`Ižāma Laĥmāan Thumma 'Ansha'nāhu Khalqāan 'Ākhara Fatabāraka Allāhu 'Aĥsanu Al-Khāliqīna

Then We created the drop of fluid as a clinging mass. Then We created the clinging mass as a fleshy tissue. Then We created the fleshy tissue as bones. Then We clothed the bones with flesh. Then We produced him as [yet] another creature. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators

Ayah 15

Thumma innakum baAAda thalika lamayyitoona

Thumma 'Innakum Ba`da Dhālika Lamayyitūna

Then indeed you die after that

16

Ayah 16

Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamati tubAAathoona

Thumma 'Innakum Yawma Al-Qiyāmati Tub`athūna

Then you will indeed be raised up on the Day of Resurrection

17

Ayah 17

Walaqad khalaqna fawqakum sabAAa taraiqa wama kunna AAani alkhalqi ghafileena

Wa Laqad Khalaqnā Fawqakum Sab`a Ţarā'iqa Wa Mā Kunnā `Ani Al-Khalqi Ghāfilīna

Certainly We created above you seven levels and We have not been oblivious of the creation

18

Ayah 18

Waanzalna mina alssamai maan biqadarin faaskannahu fee alardi wainna AAala thahabin bihi laqadiroona

Wa 'Anzalnā Mina As-Samā'i Mā'an Biqadarin Fa'askannāhu Fī Al-'Arđi Wa 'Innā `Alá Dhahābin Bihi Laqādirūna

We sent down water from the sky in a measured manner, and We lodged it within the ground, and We are indeed able to take it away

19

Ayah 19

Faanshana lakum bihi jannatin min nakheelin waaAAnabin lakum feeha fawakihu katheeratun waminha takuloona

Fa'ansha'nā Lakum Bihi Jannātin Min Nakhīlin Wa 'A`nābin Lakum Fīhā Fawākihu Kathīratun Wa Minhā Ta'kulūna

Then with it We produced for you gardens of date palms and vines. There are abundant fruits in them for you, and you eat from them

Ayah 20

Washajaratan takhruju min toori saynaa tanbutu bialdduhni wasibghin lilakileena

Wa Shajaratan Takhruju Min Ţūri Saynā'a Tanbutu Bid-Duhni Wa Şibghin Lil'ākilīna

and a tree that grows on Mount Sinai, which produces oil and a seasoning for those who eat

Ayah 21

Wainna lakum fee alanAAami laAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butooniha walakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminha takuloona

Wa 'Inna Lakum Fī Al-'An`āmi La`ibratan Nusqīkum Mimmā Fī Buţūnihā Wa Lakum Fīhā Manāfi`u Kathīratun Wa Minhā Ta'kulūna

There is indeed a moral for you in the cattle: We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, and you have many uses in them, and you eat some of them

Ayah 22

WaAAalayha waAAala alfulki tuhmaloona

Wa `Alayhā Wa `Alá Al-Fulki Tuĥmalūna

and you are carried on them and on ships

23

Ayah 23

Walaqad arsalna noohan ila qawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoona

Wa Laqad 'Arsalnā Nūĥāan 'Ilá Qawmihi Faqāla Yā Qawmi A`budū Allāha Mā Lakum Min 'Ilahin Ghayruhu 'Afalā Tattaqūna

Certainly We sent Noah to his people, and he said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. Will you not then be wary [of Him]?’

Ayah 24

Faqala almalao allatheena kafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharun mithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaa Allahu laanzala malaikatan ma samiAAna bihatha fee abaina alawwaleena

Faqāla Al-Mala'u Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Min Qawmihi Mā Hādhā 'Illā Basharun Mithlukum Yurīdu 'An Yatafađđala `Alaykum Wa Law Shā'a Allāhu La'anzala Malā'ikatan Mā Sami`nā Bihadhā Fī 'Ābā'inā Al-'Awwalīna

But the elite of the faithless from among his people said, ‘This is just a human being like you, who seeks to dominate you. Had Allah wished, He would have sent down angels. We never heard of such a thing among our forefathers

Ayah 25

In huwa illa rajulun bihi jinnatun fatarabbasoo bihi hatta heenin

In Huwa 'Illā Rajulun Bihi Jinnatun Fatarabbaşū Bihi Ĥattá Ĥīnin

He is just a man possessed by madness. So bear with him for a while.’

26

Ayah 26

Qala rabbi onsurnee bima kaththabooni

Qāla Rabbi Anşurnī Bimā Kadhabūni

He said, ‘My Lord! Help me, for they impugn me.’

27

Ayah 27

Faawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAi alfulka biaAAyunina wawahyina faitha jaa amruna wafara alttannooru faosluk feeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illa man sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibnee fee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoona

Fa'awĥaynā 'Ilayhi 'Ani Aşna`i Al-Fulka Bi'a`yuninā Wa Waĥyinā Fa'idhā Jā'a 'Amrunā Wa Fāra At-Tannūru Fāsluk Fīhā Min Kullin Zawjayni Athnayni Wa 'Ahlaka 'Illā Man Sabaqa `Alayhi Al-Qawlu Minhum Wa Lā Tukhāţibnī Fī Al-Ladhīna Žalamū 'Innahum Mughraqūna

So We revealed to him: ‘Build the ark before Our eyes and by Our revelation. When Our edict comes and the oven gushes [a stream of water], bring into it a pair of every kind [of animal], and your family, except those of them against whom the decree has gone beforehand, and do not plead with Me for those who are wrongdoers: they shall indeed be drowned.’

28

Ayah 28

Faitha istawayta anta waman maAAaka AAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allathee najjana mina alqawmi alththalimeena

Fa'idhā Astawayta 'Anta Wa Man Ma`aka `Alá Al-Fulki Faquli Al-Ĥamdu Lillāhi Al-Ladhī Najjānā Mina Al-Qawmi Až-Žālimīna

‘When you, and those who are with you, are settled in the ark, say, ‘‘All praise belongs to Allah, who has delivered us from the wrongdoing lot.’’

29

Ayah 29

Waqul rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakan waanta khayru almunzileena

Wa Qul Rabbi 'Anzilnī Munzalāan Mubārakāan Wa 'Anta Khayru Al-Munzilīna

And say, ‘‘My Lord! Land me with a blessed landing, for You are the best of those who bring ashore.’’ ’

30

Ayah 30

Inna fee thalika laayatin wain kunna lamubtaleena

Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyātin Wa 'In Kunnā Lamubtalīna

There are indeed signs in this; and indeed, We have been testing

31

Ayah 31

Thumma anshana min baAAdihim qarnan akhareena

Thumma 'Ansha'nā Min Ba`dihim Qarnāan 'Ākharīna

Then after them We brought forth another generation

32

Ayah 32

Faarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum ani oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoona

Fa'arsalnā Fīhim Rasūlāan Minhum 'Ani A`budū Allāha Mā Lakum Min 'Ilahin Ghayruhu 'Afalā Tattaqūna

and We sent them an apostle from among themselves, saying, ‘Worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. Will you not then be wary [of Him]?’

33

Ayah 33

Waqala almalao min qawmihi allatheena kafaroo wakaththaboo biliqai alakhirati waatrafnahum fee alhayati alddunya ma hatha illa basharun mithlukum yakulu mimma takuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboona

Wa Qāla Al-Mala'u Min Qawmihi Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Wa Kadhabū Biliqā'i Al-'Ākhirati Wa 'Atrafnāhum Fī Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Mā Hādhā 'Illā Basharun Mithlukum Ya'kulu Mimmā Ta'kulūna Minhu Wa Yashrabu Mimmā Tashrabūna

Said the elite of his people, who were faithless and who denied the encounter of the Hereafter and whom We had given affluence in the life of the world: ‘This is just a human being like yourselves: he eats what you eat, and drinks what you drink

34

Ayah 34

Walain ataAAtum basharan mithlakum innakum ithan lakhasiroona

Wa La'in 'Aţa`tum Basharāan Mithlakum 'Innakum 'Idhāan Lakhāsirūna

If you obey a human being like yourselves, you will indeed be losers

35

Ayah 35

AyaAAidukum annakum itha mittum wakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakum mukhrajoona

Aya`idukum 'Annakum 'Idhā Mittum Wa Kuntum Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'Annakum Mukhrajūna

Does he promise you that when you have died and become bones and dust you will indeed be raised [from the dead]

36

Ayah 36

Hayhata hayhata lima tooAAadoona

Hayhāta Hayhāta Limā Tū`adūna

Far-fetched, far-fetched is what you are promised

37

Ayah 37

In hiya illa hayatuna alddunya namootu wanahya wama nahnu bimabAAootheena

In Hiya 'Illā Ĥayātunā Ad-Dunyā Namūtu Wa Naĥyā Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimab`ūthīna

There is nothing but the life of this world: we live and die, and we will not be resurrected

38

Ayah 38

In huwa illa rajulun iftara AAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnu lahu bimumineena

In Huwa 'Illā Rajulun Aftará `Alá Allāhi Kadhibāan Wa Mā Naĥnu Lahu Bimu'uminīna

He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we will not believe in him.’

39

Ayah 39

Qala rabbi onsurnee bima kaththabooni

Qāla Rabbi Anşurnī Bimā Kadhabūni

He said, ‘My Lord! Help me, for they impugn me.’

40

Ayah 40

Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunna nadimeena

Qāla `Ammā Qalīlin Layuşbiĥunna Nādimīna

Said He, ‘In a little while they will become regretful.’

41

Ayah 41

Faakhathathumu alssayhatu bialhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaan fabuAAdan lilqawmi alththalimeena

Fa'akhadhat/humu Aş-Şayĥatu Bil-Ĥaqqi Faja`alnāhum Ghuthā'an Fabu`dāan Lilqawmi Až-Žālimīna

So the Cry seized them justly and We turned them into a scum. So away with the wrongdoing lot

42

Ayah 42

Thumma anshana min baAAdihim quroonan akhareena

Thumma 'Ansha'nā Min Ba`dihim Qurūnāan 'Ākharīna

Then after them We brought forth other generations

43

Ayah 43

Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalaha wama yastakhiroona

Mā Tasbiqu Min 'Ummatin 'Ajalahā Wa Mā Yasta'khirūna

No nation can advance its time nor can it defer it

44

Ayah 44

Thumma arsalna rusulana tatra kulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohu faatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahum ahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yuminoona

Thumma 'Arsalnā Rusulanā Tatrā Kulla Mā Jā'a 'Ummatan Rasūluhā Kadhabūhu Fa'atba`nā Ba`đahum Ba`đāan Wa Ja`alnāhum 'Aĥādītha Fabu`dāan Liqawmin Lā Yu'uminūna

Then We sent Our apostles successively. Whenever there came to a nation its apostle, they impugned him, so We made them follow one another [to extinction] and We turned them into folktales. So away with the faithless lot

45

Ayah 45

Thumma arsalna moosa waakhahu haroona biayatina wasultanin mubeenin

Thumma 'Arsalnā Mūsá Wa 'Akhāhu Hārūna Bi'āyātinā Wa Sulţānin Mubīnin

Then We sent Moses and Aaron, his brother, with Our signs and a manifest authority

46

Ayah 46

Ila firAAawna wamalaihi faistakbaroo wakanoo qawman AAaleena

Ilá Fir`awna Wa Mala'ihi Fāstakbarū Wa Kānū Qawmāan `Ālīna

to Pharaoh and his elites; but they acted arrogantly and they were a tyrannical lot

47

Ayah 47

Faqaloo anuminu libasharayni mithlina waqawmuhuma lana AAabidoona

Faqālū 'Anu'uminu Libasharayni Mithlinā Wa Qawmuhumā Lanā `Ābidūna

They said, ‘Shall we believe two humans like ourselves, while their people are our slaves?’

48

Ayah 48

Fakaththaboohuma fakanoo mina almuhlakeena

Fakadhabūhumā Fakānū Mina Al-Muhlakīna

So they impugned the two of them, whereat they were among those who were destroyed

49

Ayah 49

Walaqad atayna moosa alkitaba laAAallahum yahtadoona

Wa Laqad 'Ātaynā Mūsá Al-Kitāba La`allahum Yahtadūna

Certainly We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided

50

Ayah 50

WajaAAalna ibna maryama waommahu ayatan waawaynahuma ila rabwatin thati qararin wamaAAeenin

Wa Ja`alnā Abna Maryama Wa 'Ummahu 'Āyatan Wa 'Āwaynāhumā 'Ilá Rabwatin Dhāti Qarārin Wa Ma`īnin

and We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and sheltered them in a level highland with flowing water

51

Ayah 51

Ya ayyuha alrrusulu kuloo mina alttayyibati waiAAmaloo salihan innee bima taAAmaloona AAaleemun

Yā 'Ayyuhā Ar-Rusulu Kulū Mina Aţ-Ţayyibāti Wa A`malū Şāliĥāan 'Innī Bimā Ta`malūna `Alīmun

O apostles! Eat of the good things and act righteously. Indeed I know best what you do

52

Ayah 52

Wainna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatan waana rabbukum faittaqooni

Wa 'Inna Hadhihi 'Ummatukum 'Ummatan Wāĥidatan Wa 'Anā Rabbukum Fa Attaqūni

Indeed this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so be wary of Me

53

Ayah 53

FataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahum zuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoona

Fataqaţţa`ū 'Amrahum Baynahum Zuburāan Kullu Ĥizbin Bimā Ladayhim Fariĥūna

But they fragmented their religion among themselves, each party boasting about what it had

Ayah 54

Fatharhum fee ghamratihim hatta heenin

Fadharhum Fī Ghamratihim Ĥattá Ĥīnin

So leave them in their stupor for a while

55

Ayah 55

Ayahsaboona annama numidduhum bihi min malin wabaneena

Ayaĥsabūna 'Annamā Numidduhum Bihi Min Mālin Wa Banīna

Do they suppose that whatever aid We provide them in regard to wealth and children [is because]

56

Ayah 56

NusariAAu lahum fee alkhayrati bal la yashAAuroona

Nusāri`u Lahum Fī Al-Khayrāti Bal Lā Yash`urūna

We are eager to bring them good? No, they are not aware

57

Ayah 57

Inna allatheena hum min khashyati rabbihim mushfiqoona

Inna Al-Ladhīna Hum Min Khashyati Rabbihim Mushfiqūna

Indeed those who are apprehensive for the fear of their Lord

58

Ayah 58

Waallatheena hum biayati rabbihim yuminoona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Bi'āyāti Rabbihim Yu'uminūna

and believe in the signs of their Lord

59

Ayah 59

Waallatheena hum birabbihim la yushrikoona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Birabbihim Lā Yushrikūna

and do not ascribe partners to their Lord

60

Ayah 60

Waallatheena yutoona ma ataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Yu'utūna Mā 'Ātaw Wa Qulūbuhum Wa Jilatun 'Annahum 'Ilá Rabbihim Rāji`ūna

who give whatever they give while their hearts tremble with awe that they are going to return to their Lord

61

Ayah 61

Olaika yusariAAoona fee alkhayrati wahum laha sabiqoona

Ūlā'ika Yusāri`ūna Fī Al-Khayrāti Wa Hum Lahā Sābiqūna

—it is they who are zealous in [performing] good works and take the lead in them

62

Ayah 62

Wala nukallifu nafsan illa wusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bialhaqqi wahum la yuthlamoona

Wa Lā Nukallifu Nafsāan 'Illā Wus`ahā Wa Ladaynā Kitābun Yanţiqu Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Hum Lā Yužlamūn

We task no soul except according to its capacity, and with Us is a book that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged

63

Ayah 63

Bal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hatha walahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum laha AAamiloona

Bal Qulūbuhum Fī Ghamratin Min Hādhā Wa Lahum 'A`mālun Min Dūni Dhālika Hum Lahā `Āmilūna

Indeed, their hearts are in a stupor in regard to this, and there are other deeds besides which they perpetrate

64

Ayah 64

Hatta itha akhathna mutrafeehim bialAAathabi itha hum yajaroona

Ĥattá 'Idhā 'Akhadhnā Mutrafīhim Bil-`Adhābi 'Idhā Hum Yaj'arūna

When We seize their affluent ones with punishment, behold, they make entreaties [to Us]

65

Ayah 65

La tajaroo alyawma innakum minna la tunsaroona

Lā Taj'arū Al-Yawma 'Innakum Minnā Lā Tunşarūna

‘Do not make entreaties today! Indeed, you will not receive any help from Us

66

Ayah 66

Qad kanat ayatee tutla AAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoona

Qad Kānat 'Āyātī Tutlá `Alaykum Fakuntum `Alá 'A`qābikum Tankişūna

Certainly My signs used to be recited to you, but you used to take to your heels

67

Ayah 67

Mustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroona

Mustakbirīna Bihi Sāmirāan Tahjurūna

being disdainful of it, talking nonsense in your nightly sessions.’

68

Ayah 68

Afalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahum ma lam yati abaahumu alawwaleena

Afalam Yaddabbarū Al-Qawla 'Am Jā'ahum Mā Lam Ya'ti 'Ābā'ahumu Al-'Awwalīna

Have they not contemplated the Discourse, or has anything come to them [in it] that did not come to their forefathers

69

Ayah 69

Am lam yaAArifoo rasoolahum fahum lahu munkiroona

Am Lam Ya`rifū Rasūlahum Fahum Lahu Munkirūna

Is it that they do not recognize their apostle, and so they deny him

70

Ayah 70

Am yaqooloona bihi jinnatun bal jaahum bialhaqqi waaktharuhum lilhaqqi karihoona

Am Yaqūlūna Bihi Jinnatun Bal Jā'ahum Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa 'Aktharuhum Lilĥaqqi Kārihūna

Do they say, ‘There is madness in him’? No, he has brought them the truth, and most of them are averse to the truth

71

Ayah 71

Walawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahum lafasadati alssamawatu waalardu waman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAan thikrihim muAAridoona

Wa Lawi Attaba`a Al-Ĥaqqu 'Ahwā'ahum Lafasadati As-Samāwātu Wa Al-'Arđu Wa Man Fīhinna Bal 'Ataynāhum Bidhikrihim Fahum `An Dhikrihim Mu`riđūna

Had the truth followed their desires, the heavens and the earth would have surely fallen apart [along] with those who are in them. Indeed, We have brought them their Reminder, but they are disregardful of their Reminder

72

Ayah 72

Am tasaluhum kharjan fakharaju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru alrraziqeena

Am Tas'aluhum Kharjāan Fakharāju Rabbika Khayrun Wa Huwa Khayru Ar-Rāziqīna

Do you ask a recompense from them? Your Lord’s recompense is better, and He is the best of providers

73

Ayah 73

Wainnaka latadAAoohum ila siratin mustaqeemin

Wa 'Innaka Latad`ūhum 'Ilá Şirāţin Mustaqīmin

Indeed you invite them to a straight path

74

Ayah 74

Wainna allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati AAani alssirati lanakiboona

Wa 'Inna Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Bil-'Ākhirati `Ani Aş-Şirāţi Lanākibūna

and those who do not believe in the Hereafter surely deviate from the path

75

Ayah 75

Walaw rahimnahum wakashafna ma bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona

Wa Law Raĥimnāhum Wa Kashafnā Mā Bihim Min Đurrin Lalajjū Fī Ţughyānihim Ya`mahūna

Should We have mercy upon them and remove their distress, they would surely persist, bewildered in their rebellion

Ayah 76

Walaqad akhathnahum bialAAathabi fama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoona

Wa Laqad 'Akhadhnāhum Bil-`Adhābi Famā Astakānū Lirabbihim Wa Mā Yatađarra`ūna

We have already seized them with punishment, yet they did not humble themselves before their Lord, nor will they entreat [Him for mercy]

77

Ayah 77

Hatta itha fatahna AAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin itha hum feehi mublisoona

Ĥattá 'Idhā Fataĥnā `Alayhim Bābāan Dhā `Adhābin Shadīdin 'Idhā Hum Fīhi Mublisūna

until We open on them the gate of a severe punishment, whereupon they will be despondent in it

Ayah 78

Wahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu alssamAAa waalabsara waalafidata qaleelan ma tashkuroona

Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī 'Ansha'a Lakumu As-Sam`a Wa Al-'Abşāra Wa Al-'Af'idata Qalīlāan Mā Tashkurūna

It is He who made for you hearing, eyesight, and hearts. Little do you thank

Ayah 79

Wahuwa allathee tharaakum fee alardi wailayhi tuhsharoona

Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Dhara'akum Fī Al-'Arđi Wa 'Ilayhi Tuĥsharūna

It is He who created you on the earth, and you will be mustered toward Him

80

Ayah 80

Wahuwa allathee yuhyee wayumeetu walahu ikhtilafu allayli waalnnahari afala taAAqiloona

Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Yuĥyī Wa Yumītu Wa Lahu Akhtilāfu Al-Layli Wa An-Nahāri 'Afalā Ta`qilūna

And it is He who gives life and brings death, and due to Him is the alternation of day and night. Do you not exercise your reason

81

Ayah 81

Bal qaloo mithla ma qala alawwaloona

Bal Qālū Mithla Mā Qāla Al-'Awwalūna

Indeed, they say, just like what the former peoples said

82

Ayah 82

Qaloo aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona

Qālū 'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamab`ūthūna

They said, ‘What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected

Ayah 83

Laqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaona hatha min qablu in hatha illa asateeru alawwaleena

Laqad Wu`idnā Naĥnu Wa 'Ābā'uunā Hādhā Min Qablu 'In Hādhā 'Illā 'Asāţīru Al-'Awwalīna

Certainly, we and our fathers were promised this before. [But] these are nothing but myths of the ancients.’

Ayah 84

Qul limani alardu waman feeha in kuntum taAAlamoona

Qul Limani Al-'Arđu Wa Man Fīhā 'In Kuntum Ta`lamūna

Say, ‘To whom does the earth belong and whoever it contains, if you know?’

85

Ayah 85

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afala tathakkaroona

Sayaqūlūna Lillāhi Qul 'Afalā Tadhakkarūna

They will say, ‘To Allah.’ Say, ‘Will you not then take admonition?’

86

Ayah 86

Qul man rabbu alssamawati alssabAAi warabbu alAAarshi alAAatheemi

Qul Man Rabbu As-Samāwāti As-Sab`i Wa Rabbu Al-`Arshi Al-`Ažīmi

Say, ‘Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne?’

87

Ayah 87

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afala tattaqoona

Sayaqūlūna Lillāhi Qul 'Afalā Tattaqūna

They will say, ‘[They belong] to Allah.’ Say, ‘Will you not then be wary [of Him]?’

88

Ayah 88

Qul man biyadihi malakootu kulli shayin wahuwa yujeeru wala yujaru AAalayhi in kuntum taAAlamoona

Qul Man Biyadihi Malakūtu Kulli Shay'in Wa Huwa Yujīru Wa Lā Yujāru `Alayhi 'In Kuntum Ta`lamūn

Say, ‘In whose hand is the dominion of all things, and who gives shelter and no shelter can be provided from Him, if you know?’

89

Ayah 89

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul faanna tusharoona

Sayaqūlūna Lillāhi Qul Fa'annā Tusĥarūna

They will say, ‘[They all belong] to Allah.’ Say, ‘Then how are you so deluded?’

90

Ayah 90

Bal ataynahum bialhaqqi wainnahum lakathiboona

Bal 'Ataynāhum Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa 'Innahum Lakādhibūna

Indeed, We have brought them the truth, and they are indeed liars

91

Ayah 91

Ma ittakhatha Allahu min waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithan lathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana Allahi AAamma yasifoona

Mā Attakhadha Allāhu Min Waladin Wa Mā Kāna Ma`ahu Min 'Ilahin 'Idhāan Ladhahaba Kullu 'Ilahin Bimā Khalaqa Wa La`alā Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Subĥāna Allāhi `Ammā Yaşifūna

Allah has not taken any offspring, neither is there any god besides Him, for then each god would take away what he created, and some of them would surely rise up against others. Clear is Allah of what they allege

92

Ayah 92

AAalimi alghaybi waalshshahadati fataAAala AAamma yushrikoona

Ālimi Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Fata`ālá `Ammā Yushrikūna

The Knower of the sensible and the Unseen, He is above having any partners that they ascribe [to Him]

93

Ayah 93

Qul rabbi imma turiyannee ma yooAAadoona

Qul Rabbi 'Immā Turiyannī Mā Yū`adūna

Say, ‘My Lord! If You should show me what they are promised

94

Ayah 94

Rabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi alththalimeena

Rabbi Falā Taj`alnī Fī Al-Qawmi Až-Žālimīna

then do not put me, my Lord, among the wrongdoing lot.’

95

Ayah 95

Wainna AAala an nuriyaka ma naAAiduhum laqadiroona

Wa 'Innā `Alá 'An Nuriyaka Mā Na`iduhum Laqādirūna

We are indeed able to show you what We promise them

96

Ayah 96

IdfaAA biallatee hiya ahsanu alssayyiata nahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoona

Idfa` Bi-Atī Hiya 'Aĥsanu As-Sayyi'ata Naĥnu 'A`lamu Bimā Yaşifūna

Repel ill [conduct] with that which is the best. We know best whatever they allege

97

Ayah 97

Waqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazati alshshayateeni

Wa Qul Rabbi 'A`ūdhu Bika Min Hamazāti Ash-Shayāţīni

Say, ‘My Lord! I seek Your protection from the promptings of devils

98

Ayah 98

WaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahdurooni

Wa 'A`ūdhu Bika Rabbi 'An Yaĥđurūni

and I seek Your protection, my Lord, from their presence near me.’

99

Ayah 99

Hatta itha jaa ahadahumu almawtu qala rabbi irjiAAooni

Ĥattá 'Idhā Jā'a 'Aĥadahumu Al-Mawtu Qāla Rabbi Arji`ūni

When death comes to one of them, he says, ‘My Lord! Take me back

100

Ayah 100

LaAAallee aAAmalu salihan feema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qailuha wamin waraihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoona

La`allī 'A`malu Şāliĥāan Fīmā Taraktu Kallā 'Innahā Kalimatun Huwa Qā'iluhā Wa Min Warā'ihim Barzakhun 'Ilá Yawmi Yub`athūna

that I may act righteously in what I have left behind.’ ‘By no means! These are mere words that he says.’ And before them is a barrier until the day they will be resurrected

101

Ayah 101

Faitha nufikha fee alssoori fala ansaba baynahum yawmaithin wala yatasaaloona

Fa'idhā Nufikha Fī Aş-Şūri Falā 'Ansāba Baynahum Yawma'idhin Wa Lā Yatasā'alūna

When the Trumpet is blown, there will be no ties between them on that day, nor will they ask [about] each other

102

Ayah 102

Faman thaqulat mawazeenuhu faolaika humu almuflihoona

Faman Thaqulat Mawāzīnuhu Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mufliĥūna

Then those whose deeds weigh heavy in the scales—it is they who are the felicitous

103

Ayah 103

Waman khaffat mawazeenuhu faolaika allatheena khasiroo anfusahum fee jahannama khalidoona

Wa Man Khaffat Mawāzīnuhu Fa'ūlā'ika Al-Ladhīna Khasirū 'Anfusahum Fī Jahannama Khālidūna

As for those whose deeds weigh light in the scales—they will be the ones who have ruined their souls, and they will remain in hell [forever]

104

Ayah 104

Talfahu wujoohahumu alnnaru wahum feeha kalihoona

Talfaĥu Wujūhahumu An-Nāru Wa Hum Fīhā Kāliĥūna

The Fire will scorch their faces, while they snarl baring their teeth

105

Ayah 105

Alam takun ayatee tutla AAalaykum fakuntum biha tukaththiboona

Alam Takun 'Āyātī Tutlá `Alaykum Fakuntum Bihā Tukadhibūna

‘Was it not that My signs were recited to you but you would deny them?’

106

Ayah 106

Qaloo rabbana ghalabat AAalayna shiqwatuna wakunna qawman dalleena

Qālū Rabbanā Ghalabat `Alaynā Shiqwatunā Wa Kunnā Qawmāan Đāllīna

They will say, ‘Our Lord! Our wretchedness overcame us, and we were an astray lot

107

Ayah 107

Rabbana akhrijna minha fain AAudna fainna thalimoona

Rabbanā 'Akhrijnā Minhā Fa'in `Udnā Fa'innā Žālimūna

Our Lord! Bring us out of this! Then, if we revert [to our previous conduct], we will indeed be wrongdoers.’

108

Ayah 108

Qala ikhsaoo feeha wala tukallimooni

Qāla Akhsa'ū Fīhā Wa Lā Tukallimūni

He will say, ‘Begone in it, and do not speak to Me

109

Ayah 109

Innahu kana fareequn min AAibadee yaqooloona rabbana amanna faighfir lana wairhamna waanta khayru alrrahimeena

Innahu Kāna Farīqun Min `Ibādī Yaqūlūna Rabbanā 'Āmannā Fāghfir Lanā Wa Arĥamnā Wa 'Anta Khayru Ar-Rāĥimīna

Indeed there was a part of My servants who would say, ‘‘Our Lord! We have believed. So forgive us, and have mercy on us, and You are the best of the merciful.’’

110

Ayah 110

Faittakhathtumoohum sikhriyyan hatta ansawkum thikree wakuntum minhum tadhakoona

Fāttakhadhtumūhum Sikhrīyāan Ĥattá 'Ansawkum Dhikrī Wa Kuntum Minhum Tađĥakūna

But you took them by ridicule until they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them

111

Ayah 111

Innee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabaroo annahum humu alfaizoona

Innī Jazaytuhumu Al-Yawma Bimā Şabarū 'Annahum Humu Al-Fā'izūna

Indeed I have rewarded them today for their patience. They are indeed the triumphant.’

Ayah 112

Qala kam labithtum fee alardi AAadada sineena

Qāla Kam Labithtum Fī Al-'Arđi `Adada Sinīna

He will say, ‘How many years did you remain on earth?’

113

Ayah 113

Qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAda yawmin faisali alAAaddeena

Qālū Labithnā Yawmāan 'Aw Ba`đa Yawmin Fās'ali Al-`Āddīna

They will say, ‘We remained for a day, or part of a day; yet ask those who keep the count.’

114

Ayah 114

Qala in labithtum illa qaleelan law annakum kuntum taAAlamoona

Qāla 'In Labithtum 'Illā Qalīlāan Law 'Annakum Kuntum Ta`lamūna

He will say, ‘You only remained a little; if only you had known

Ayah 115

Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakum AAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoona

Afaĥasibtum 'Annamā Khalaqnākum `Abathāan Wa 'Annakum 'Ilaynā Lā Turja`ūna

Did you suppose that We created you aimlessly, and that you will not be brought back to Us?’

116

Ayah 116

FataAAala Allahu almaliku alhaqqu la ilaha illa huwa rabbu alAAarshi alkareemi

Fata`ālá Allāhu Al-Maliku Al-Ĥaqqu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa Rabbu Al-`Arshi Al-Karīmi

So exalted is Allah, the True Sovereign, there is no god except Him, the Lord of the Noble Throne

117

Ayah 117

Waman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahan akhara la burhana lahu bihi fainnama hisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihu alkafiroona

Wa Man Yad`u Ma`a Allāhi 'Ilahāan 'Ākhara Lā Burhāna Lahu Bihi Fa'innamā Ĥisābuhu `Inda Rabbihi 'Innahu Lā Yufliĥu Al-Kāfirūna

Whoever invokes besides Allah another god of which he has no proof, his reckoning will indeed rest with his Lord. Indeed the faithless will not be felicitous

118

Ayah 118

Waqul rabbi ighfir wairham waanta khayru alrrahimeena

Wa Qul Rabbi Aghfir Wa Arĥam Wa 'Anta Khayru Ar-Rāĥimīna

Say, ‘My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful.’
