Waalssaffati saffan
Wa Aş-Şāffāti Şaffāan
By the [angels] ranged in ranks
Surah 37
Those drawn up in Ranks
سُورَةُ الصَّافَّاتِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Ayah 1
Waalssaffati saffan
Wa Aş-Şāffāti Şaffāan
By the [angels] ranged in ranks
Ayah 2
Faalzzajirati zajran
Fālzzājirāti Zajrāan
by the ones who drive [the clouds] vigorously
Ayah 3
Faalttaliyati thikran
Fālttāliyāti Dhikrāan
by the ones who recite the reminder
Ayah 4
Inna ilahakum lawahidun
Inna 'Ilahakum Lawāĥidun
indeed your God is certainly One
Ayah 5
Rabbu alssamawati waalardi wama baynahuma warabbu almashariqi
Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā Wa Rabbu Al-Mashāriqi
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and the Lord of the easts
Ayah 6
Inna zayyanna alssamaa alddunya bizeenatin alkawakibi
Innā Zayyannā As-Samā'a Ad-Dunyā Bizīnatin Al-Kawākib
Indeed We have adorned the lowest heaven with the finery of the stars
Ayah 7
Wahifthan min kulli shaytanin maridin
Wa Ĥifžāan Min Kulli Shayţānin Māridin
and to guard from any froward devil
Ayah 8
La yassammaAAoona ila almalai alaAAla wayuqthafoona min kulli janibin
Lā Yassamma`ūna 'Ilá Al-Mala'i Al-'A`lá Wa Yuqdhafūna Min Kulli Jānibin
They do not eavesdrop on the Supernal Elite—they are shot at from every side
Ayah 9
Duhooran walahum AAathabun wasibun
Duĥūrāan Wa Lahum `Adhābun Wa Aşibun
to drive them away, and there is a perpetual punishment for them—
Ayah 10
Illa man khatifa alkhatfata faatbaAAahu shihabun thaqibun
Illā Man Khaţifa Al-Khaţfata Fa'atba`ahu Shihābun Thāqibāun
except any who snatches a snatch, whereat a piercing flame pursues him
Ayah 11
Faistaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqna inna khalaqnahum min teenin lazibin
Fāstaftihim 'Ahum 'Ashaddu Khalqāan 'Am Man Khalaqnā 'Innā Khalaqnāhum Min Ţīnin Lāzibin
Ask them, is their creation more prodigious or [that of other creatures] that We have created? Indeed, We created them from a viscous clay
Ayah 12
Bal AAajibta wayaskharoona
Bal `Ajibta Wa Yaskharūna
Indeed you wonder, while they engage in ridicule
Ayah 13
Waitha thukkiroo la yathkuroona
Wa 'Idhā Dhukkirū Lā Yadhkurūna
and [even] when admonished do not take admonition
Ayah 14
Waitha raaw ayatan yastaskhiroona
Wa 'Idhā Ra'aw 'Āyatan Yastaskhirūna
and when they see a sign they make it an object of ridicule
Ayah 15
Waqaloo in hatha illa sihrun mubeenun
Wa Qālū 'In Hādhā 'Illā Siĥrun Mubīnun
and say, ‘This is nothing but plain magic!’
Ayah 16
Aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamabAAoothoona
A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamab`ūthūna
‘What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected
Ayah 17
Awaabaona alawwaloona
Awa'ābā'uunā Al-'Awwalūna
And our forefathers too?!’
Ayah 18
Qul naAAam waantum dakhiroona
Qul Na`am Wa 'Antum Dākhirūna
Say, ‘Yes! And you will be utterly humble.’
Ayah 19
Fainnama hiya zajratun wahidatun faitha hum yanthuroona
Fa'innamā Hiya Zajratun Wāĥidatun Fa'idhā Hum Yanžurūna
It will be only a single shout and, behold, they will look on
Ayah 20
Waqaloo ya waylana hatha yawmu alddeeni
Wa Qālū Yā Waylanā Hādhā Yawmu Ad-Dīni
and say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Retribution!’
Ayah 21
Hatha yawmu alfasli allathee kuntum bihi tukaththiboona
Hādhā Yawmu Al-Faşli Al-Ladhī Kuntum Bihi Tukadhibūna
‘This is the Day of Judgement that you used to deny!’
Ayah 22
Ohshuroo allatheena thalamoo waazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoona
Aĥshurū Al-Ladhīna Žalamū Wa 'Azwājahum Wa Mā Kānū Ya`budūna
‘Muster the wrongdoers and their mates and what they used to worship
Ayah 23
Min dooni Allahi faihdoohum ila sirati aljaheemi
Min Dūni Allāhi Fāhdūhum 'Ilá Şirāţi Al-Jaĥīmi
besides Allah, and show them the way to hell
Ayah 24
Waqifoohum innahum masooloona
Wa Qifūhum 'Innahum Mas'ūlūna
[But first] stop them! For they must be questioned.’
Ayah 25
Ma lakum la tanasaroona
Mā Lakum Lā Tanāşarūna
‘Why is it that you do not support one another [today]?’
Ayah 26
Bal humu alyawma mustaslimoona
Bal Humu Al-Yawma Mustaslimūna
‘Indeed, they are [meek and] submissive today!’
Ayah 27
Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona
Wa 'Aqbala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatasā'alūna
Some of them will turn to others, questioning each other
Ayah 28
Qaloo innakum kuntum tatoonana AAani alyameeni
Qālū 'Innakum Kuntum Ta'tūnanā `Ani Al-Yamīni
They will say, ‘Indeed you used to accost us peremptorily.’
Ayah 29
Qaloo bal lam takoonoo mumineena
Qālū Bal Lam Takūnū Mu'uminīna
They will answer, ‘No, you [yourselves] had no faith
Ayah 30
Wama kana lana AAalaykum min sultanin bal kuntum qawman tagheena
Wa Mā Kāna Lanā `Alaykum Min Sulţānin Bal Kuntum Qawmāan Ţāghīna
We had no authority over you. No, you [yourselves] were a rebellious lot
Ayah 31
Fahaqqa AAalayna qawlu rabbina inna lathaiqoona
Faĥaqqa `Alaynā Qawlu Rabbinā 'Innā Ladhā'iqūna
So our Lord’s word became due against us that we shall indeed taste [the punishment]
Ayah 32
Faaghwaynakum inna kunna ghaweena
Fa'aghwaynākum 'Innā Kunnā Ghāwīna
So we perverted you, for we were perverse [ourselves].’
Ayah 33
Fainnahum yawmaithin fee alAAathabi mushtarikoona
Fa'innahum Yawma'idhin Fī Al-`Adhābi Mushtarikūna
So, that day they will share the punishment
Ayah 34
Inna kathalika nafAAalu bialmujrimeena
Innā Kadhālika Naf`alu Bil-Mujrimīna
Indeed, that is how We deal with the guilty
Ayah 35
Innahum kanoo itha qeela lahum la ilaha illa Allahu yastakbiroona
Innahum Kānū 'Idhā Qīla Lahum Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Allāhu Yastakbirūna
Indeed, it was they who, when they were told, ‘There is no god except Allah,’ used to be disdainful
Ayah 36
Wayaqooloona ainna latarikoo alihatina lishaAAirin majnoonin
Wa Yaqūlūna 'A'innā Latārikū 'Ālihatinā Lishā`irin Majnūnin
and [they would] say, ‘Shall we abandon our gods for a crazy poet?’
Ayah 37
Bal jaa bialhaqqi wasaddaqa almursaleena
Bal Jā'a Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Şaddaqa Al-Mursalīna
Indeed, he has brought [them] the truth, and confirmed the [earlier] apostles
Ayah 38
Innakum lathaiqoo alAAathabi alaleemi
Innakum Ladhā'iqū Al-`Adhābi Al-'Alīmi
Indeed you will taste the painful punishment
Ayah 39
Wama tujzawna illa ma kuntum taAAmaloona
Wa Mā Tujzawna 'Illā Mā Kuntum Ta`malūna
and you will be requited only for what you used to do
Ayah 40
Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena
Illā `Ibāda Allāhi Al-Mukhlaşīna
—[all] except Allah’s exclusive servants
Ayah 41
Olaika lahum rizqun maAAloomun
Ūlā'ika Lahum Rizqun Ma`lūmun
For such there is a known provision
Ayah 42
Fawakihu wahum mukramoona
Fawākihu Wa Hum Mukramūna
—fruits—and they will be held in honour
Ayah 43
Fee jannati alnnaAAeemi
Fī Jannāti An-Na`īmi
in the gardens of bliss
Ayah 44
AAala sururin mutaqabileena
Alá Sururin Mutaqābilīna
[reclining] on couches, facing one another
Ayah 45
Yutafu AAalayhim bikasin min maAAeenin
Yuţāfu `Alayhim Bika'sin Min Ma`īnin
served around with a cup, from a clear fountain
Ayah 46
Baydaa laththatin lilshsharibeena
Bayđā'a Ladhatin Lilshāribīna
snow-white, delicious to the drinkers
Ayah 47
La feeha ghawlun wala hum AAanha yunzafoona
Lā Fīhā Ghawlun Wa Lā Hum `Anhā Yunzafūna
wherein there will be neither headache nor will it cause them stupefaction
Ayah 48
WaAAindahum qasiratu alttarfi AAeenun
Wa `Indahum Qāşirātu Aţ-Ţarfi `Īnun
and with them will be maidens, of restrained glances with big [beautiful] eyes
Ayah 49
Kaannahunna baydun maknoonun
Ka'annahunna Bayđun Maknūnun
as if they were hidden ostrich eggs
Ayah 50
Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin yatasaaloona
Fa'aqbala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatasā'alūna
Some of them will turn to others, questioning each other
Ayah 51
Qala qailun minhum innee kana lee qareenun
Qāla Qā'ilun Minhum 'Innī Kāna Lī Qarīnun
One of them will say, ‘Indeed I had a companion
Ayah 52
Yaqoolu ainnaka lamina almusaddiqeena
Yaqūlu 'A'innaka Lamina Al-Muşaddiqīna
who used to say, ‘‘Are you really among those who affirm
Ayah 53
Aitha mitna wakunna turaban waAAithaman ainna lamadeenoona
A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamadīnūna
that when we have died and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to retribution?’’ ’
Ayah 54
Qala hal antum muttaliAAoona
Qāla Hal 'Antum Muţţali`ūna
He will say, ‘Will you have a look?’
Ayah 55
FaittalaAAa faraahu fee sawai aljaheemi
Fāţţala`a Fara'āhu Fī Sawā'i Al-Jaĥīmi
Then he will take a look and sight him in the middle of hell
Ayah 56
Qala taAllahi in kidta laturdeeni
Qāla Ta-Allāhi 'In Kidta Laturdīni
He will say, ‘By Allah, you had almost ruined me
Ayah 57
Walawla niAAmatu rabbee lakuntu mina almuhdareena
Wa Lawlā Ni`matu Rabbī Lakuntu Mina Al-Muĥđarīna
Had it not been for my Lord’s blessing, I too would have been among those mustered [in hell]!’
Ayah 58
Afama nahnu bimayyiteena
Afamā Naĥnu Bimayyitīna
‘Is it [true] that we shall not die [anymore]
Ayah 59
Illa mawtatana aloola wama nahnu bimuAAaththabeena
Illā Mawtatanā Al-'Ūlá Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimu`adhabīna
aside from our earlier death, and that we shall not be punished
Ayah 60
Inna hatha lahuwa alfawzu alAAatheemu
Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu
This is indeed the supreme triumph!’
Ayah 61
Limithli hatha falyaAAmali alAAamiloona
Limithli Hādhā Falya`mali Al-`Āmilūna
Let all workers work for the like of this
Ayah 62
Athalika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratu alzzaqqoomi
Adhalika Khayrun Nuzulāan 'Am Shajaratu Az-Zaqqūmi
Is this a better reception, or the Zaqqum tree
Ayah 63
Inna jaAAalnaha fitnatan lilththalimeena
Innā Ja`alnāhā Fitnatan Lilžžālimīna
Indeed We have made it a punishment for the wrongdoers
Ayah 64
Innaha shajaratun takhruju fee asli aljaheemi
Innahā Shajaratun Takhruju Fī 'Aşli Al-Jaĥīmi
It is a tree that rises from the depths of hell
Ayah 65
TalAAuha kaannahu ruoosu alshshayateeni
Ţal`uhā Ka'annahu Ru'ūsu Ash-Shayāţīni
Its spathes are as if they were devils’ heads
Ayah 66
Fainnahum laakiloona minha famalioona minha albutoona
Fa'innahum La'ākilūna Minhā Famāli'ūna Minhā Al-Buţūna
They will eat from it and gorge with it their bellies
Ayah 67
Thumma inna lahum AAalayha lashawban min hameemin
Thumma 'Inna Lahum `Alayhā Lashawbāan Min Ĥamīmin
On top of that they will take a solution of scalding water
Ayah 68
Thumma inna marjiAAahum laila aljaheemi
Thumma 'Inna Marji`ahum La'ilá Al-Jaĥīmi
Then their retreat will be toward hell
Ayah 69
Innahum alfaw abaahum dalleena
Innahum 'Alfaw 'Ābā'ahum Đāllīna
They had found their fathers astray
Ayah 70
Fahum AAala atharihim yuhraAAoona
Fahum `Alá 'Āthārihim Yuhra`ūna
yet they press onwards in their footsteps
Ayah 71
Walaqad dalla qablahum aktharu alawwaleena
Wa Laqad Đalla Qablahum 'Aktharu Al-'Awwalīna
Most of the former peoples went astray before them
Ayah 72
Walaqad arsalna feehim munthireena
Wa Laqad 'Arsalnā Fīhim Mundhirīna
and We had certainly sent warners among them
Ayah 73
Faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu almunthareena
Fānžur Kayfa Kāna `Āqibatu Al-Mundharīna
So observe how was the fate of those who were warned
Ayah 74
Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena
Illā `Ibāda Allāhi Al-Mukhlaşīna
—[all] except Allah’s exclusive servants
Ayah 75
Walaqad nadana noohun falaniAAma almujeeboona
Wa Laqad Nādānā Nūĥun Falani`ma Al-Mujībūna
Certainly Noah called out to Us, and how well did We respond
Ayah 76
Wanajjaynahu waahlahu mina alkarbi alAAatheemi
Wa Najjaynāhu Wa 'Ahlahu Mina Al-Karbi Al-`Ažīmi
We delivered him and his family from their great distress
Ayah 77
WajaAAalna thurriyyatahu humu albaqeena
Wa Ja`alnā Dhurrīyatahu Humu Al-Bāqīna
and made his descendants the survivors
Ayah 78
Watarakna AAalayhi fee alakhireena
Wa Taraknā `Alayhi Fī Al-'Ākhirīna
and left for him a good name among posterity
Ayah 79
Salamun AAala noohin fee alAAalameena
Salāmun `Alá Nūĥin Fī Al-`Ālamīna
‘Peace to Noah, throughout the nations!’
Ayah 80
Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena
Innā Kadhālika Najzī Al-Muĥsinīna
Thus do We reward the virtuous
Ayah 81
Innahu min AAibadina almumineena
Innahu Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna
He is indeed one of Our faithful servants
Ayah 82
Thumma aghraqna alakhareena
Thumma 'Aghraqnā Al-'Ākharīna
Then We drowned the rest
Ayah 83
Wainna min sheeAAatihi laibraheema
Wa 'Inna Min Shī`atihi La'ibrāhīma
Indeed Abraham was among his followers
Ayah 84
Ith jaa rabbahu biqalbin saleemin
Idh Jā'a Rabbahu Biqalbin Salīmin
when he came to his Lord with a sound heart [untainted by sin]
Ayah 85
Ith qala liabeehi waqawmihi matha taAAbudoona
Idh Qāla Li'abīhi Wa Qawmihi Mādhā Ta`budūna
When he said to his father and his people, ‘What is it that you are worshiping
Ayah 86
Aifkan alihatan doona Allahi tureedoona
A'ifkāan 'Ālihatan Dūna Allāhi Turīdūna
Is it a lie, gods other than Allah, that you desire
Ayah 87
Fama thannukum birabbi alAAalameena
Famā Žannukum Birabbi Al-`Ālamīna
Then what is your idea about the Lord of all the worlds?’
Ayah 88
Fanathara nathratan fee alnnujoomi
Fanažara Nažratan Fī An-Nujūmi
Then he made an observation of the stars
Ayah 89
Faqala innee saqeemun
Faqāla 'Innī Saqīmun
and said, ‘Indeed I am sick!’
Ayah 90
Fatawallaw AAanhu mudbireena
Fatawallaw `Anhu Mudbirīna
So they went away leaving him behind
Ayah 91
Faragha ila alihatihim faqala ala takuloona
Farāgha 'Ilá 'Ālihatihim Faqāla 'Alā Ta'kulūna
Then he stole away to their gods and said, ‘Will you not eat
Ayah 92
Ma lakum la tantiqoona
Mā Lakum Lā Tanţiqūna
Why do you not speak?’
Ayah 93
Faragha AAalayhim darban bialyameeni
Farāgha `Alayhim Đarbāan Bil-Yamīni
Then he attacked them, striking forcefully
Ayah 94
Faaqbaloo ilayhi yaziffoona
Fa'aqbalū 'Ilayhi Yaziffūna
They came running towards him
Ayah 95
Qala ataAAbudoona ma tanhitoona
Qāla 'Ata`budūna Mā Tanĥitūna
He said, ‘Do you worship what you have yourselves carved
Ayah 96
WaAllahu khalaqakum wama taAAmaloona
Wa Allāhu Khalaqakum Wa Mā Ta`malūna
when Allah has created you and whatever you make?’
Ayah 97
Qaloo ibnoo lahu bunyanan faalqoohu fee aljaheemi
Qālū Abnū Lahu Bunyānāan Fa'alqūhu Fī Al-Jaĥīmi
They said, ‘Build a structure for him and cast him into a huge fire.’
Ayah 98
Faaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumu alasfaleena
Fa'arādū Bihi Kaydāan Faja`alnāhumu Al-'Asfalīna
So they sought to outwit him, but We made them the lowermost
Ayah 99
Waqala innee thahibun ila rabbee sayahdeeni
Wa Qāla 'Innī Dhāhibun 'Ilá Rabbī Sayahdīni
He said, ‘Indeed I am going toward my Lord, who will guide me.’
Ayah 100
Rabbi hab lee mina alssaliheena
Rabbi Hab Lī Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna
‘My Lord! Give me [an heir], one of the righteous.’
Ayah 101
Fabashsharnahu bighulamin haleemin
Fabasharnāhu Bighulāmin Ĥalīmin
So We gave him the good news of a forbearing son
Ayah 102
Falamma balagha maAAahu alssaAAya qala ya bunayya innee ara fee almanami annee athbahuka faonthur matha tara qala ya abati ifAAal ma tumaru satajidunee in shaa Allahu mina alssabireena
Falammā Balagha Ma`ahu As-Sa`ya Qāla Yā Bunayya 'Innī 'Ará Fī Al-Manāmi 'Annī 'Adhbaĥuka Fānžur Mādhā Tará Qāla Yā 'Abati Af`al Mā Tu'umaru Satajidunī 'In Shā'a Allāhu Mina Aş-Şābirīna
When he was old enough to assist in his endeavour, he said, ‘My son! I see in dreams that I am sacrificing you. See what you think.’ He said, ‘Father! Do whatever you have been commanded. If Allah wishes, you will find me to be patient.’
Ayah 103
Falamma aslama watallahu liljabeeni
Falammā 'Aslamā Wa Tallahu Liljabīni
So when they had both surrendered [to Allah’s will], and he had laid him down on his forehead
Ayah 104
Wanadaynahu an ya ibraheemu
Wa Nādaynāhu 'An Yā 'Ibrāhīmu
We called out to him, ‘O Abraham
Ayah 105
Qad saddaqta alrruya inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena
Qad Şaddaqta Ar-Ru'uyā 'Innā Kadhālika Najzī Al-Muĥsinīna
You have indeed fulfilled your vision! Thus indeed do We reward the virtuous
Ayah 106
Inna hatha lahuwa albalao almubeenu
Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Al-Balā'u Al-Mubīnu
This was indeed a manifest test.’
Ayah 107
Wafadaynahu bithibhin AAatheemin
Wa Fadaynāhu Bidhibĥin `Ažīmin
Then We ransomed him with a great sacrifice
Ayah 108
Watarakna AAalayhi fee alakhireena
Wa Taraknā `Alayhi Fī Al-'Ākhirīna
and left for him a good name in posterity
Ayah 109
Salamun AAala ibraheema
Salāmun `Alá 'Ibrāhīma
‘Peace be to Abraham!’
Ayah 110
Kathalika najzee almuhsineena
Kadhālika Najzī Al-Muĥsinīna
Thus do We reward the virtuous
Ayah 111
Innahu min AAibadina almumineena
Innahu Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna
He is indeed one of Our faithful servants
Ayah 112
Wabashsharnahu biishaqa nabiyyan mina alssaliheena
Wa Basharnāhu Bi'isĥāqa Nabīyāan Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna
And We gave him the good news of [the birth of] Isaac, a prophet, one of the righteous
Ayah 113
Wabarakna AAalayhi waAAala ishaqa wamin thurriyyatihima muhsinun wathalimun linafsihi mubeenun
Wa Bāraknā `Alayhi Wa `Alá 'Isĥāqa Wa Min Dhurrīyatihimā Muĥsinun Wa Žālimun Linafsihi Mubīnun
And We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants [some] are virtuous, and [some] who manifestly wrong themselves
Ayah 114
Walaqad mananna AAala moosa waharoona
Wa Laqad Manannā `Alá Mūsá Wa Hārūna
Certainly We favoured Moses and Aaron
Ayah 115
Wanajjaynahuma waqawmahuma mina alkarbi alAAatheemi
Wa Najjaynāhumā Wa Qawmahumā Mina Al-Karbi Al-`Ažīmi
and delivered them and their people from their great distress
Ayah 116
Wanasarnahum fakanoo humu alghalibeena
Wa Naşarnāhum Fakānū Humu Al-Ghālibīna
and We helped them so that they became the victors
Ayah 117
Waataynahuma alkitaba almustabeena
Wa 'Ātaynāhumā Al-Kitāba Al-Mustabīna
We gave them the illuminating scripture
Ayah 118
Wahadaynahuma alssirata almustaqeema
Wa Hadaynāhumā Aş-Şirāţa Al-Mustaqīma
and guided them to the straight path
Ayah 119
Watarakna AAalayhima fee alakhireena
Wa Taraknā `Alayhimā Fī Al-'Ākhirīna
and left for them a good name in posterity
Ayah 120
Salamun AAala moosa waharoona
Salāmun `Alá Mūsá Wa Hārūna
‘Peace be to Moses and Aaron!’
Ayah 121
Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena
Innā Kadhālika Najzī Al-Muĥsinīna
Thus indeed do We reward the virtuous
Ayah 122
Innahuma min AAibadina almumineena
Innahumā Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna
They are indeed among Our faithful servants
Ayah 123
Wainna ilyasa lamina almursaleena
Wa 'Inna 'Ilyāsa Lamina Al-Mursalīna
Indeed Ilyas was one of the apostles
Ayah 124
Ith qala liqawmihi ala tattaqoona
Idh Qāla Liqawmihi 'Alā Tattaqūna
When he said to his people, ‘Will you not be Godwary
Ayah 125
AtadAAoona baAAlan watatharoona ahsana alkhaliqeena
Atad`ūna Ba`lāan Wa Tadharūna 'Aĥsana Al-Khāliqīna
Do you invoke Baal and abandon the best of creators
Ayah 126
Allaha rabbakum warabba abaikumu alawwaleena
Allāha Rabbakum Wa Rabba 'Ābā'ikumu Al-'Awwalīna
Allah, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers?,’
Ayah 127
Fakaththaboohu fainnahum lamuhdaroona
Fakadhabūhu Fa'innahum Lamuĥđarūna
they impugned him. So they will indeed be mustered [in hell]
Ayah 128
Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena
Illā `Ibāda Allāhi Al-Mukhlaşīna
—[all] except Allah’s exclusive servants
Ayah 129
Watarakna AAalayhi fee alakhireena
Wa Taraknā `Alayhi Fī Al-'Ākhirīna
We left for him a good name in posterity
Ayah 130
Salamun AAala il yaseena
Salāmun `Alá 'Il Yā -Sīn
‘Peace be to Ilyas!’
Ayah 131
Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineena
Innā Kadhālika Najzī Al-Muĥsinīna
Thus indeed do We reward the virtuous
Ayah 132
Innahu min AAibadina almumineena
Innahu Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna
He is indeed one of Our faithful servants
Ayah 133
Wainna lootan lamina almursaleena
Wa 'Inna Lūţāan Lamina Al-Mursalīna
Indeed Lot was one of the apostles
Ayah 134
Ith najjaynahu waahlahu ajmaAAeena
Idh Najjaynāhu Wa 'Ahlahu 'Ajma`īna
When We delivered him and all his family
Ayah 135
Illa AAajoozan fee alghabireena
Illā `Ajūzāan Fī Al-Ghābirīna
excepting an old woman among those who remained behind
Ayah 136
Thumma dammarna alakhareena
Thumma Dammarnā Al-'Ākharīna
We destroyed the rest
Ayah 137
Wainnakum latamurroona AAalayhim musbiheena
Wa 'Innakum Latamurrūna `Alayhim Muşbiĥīna
Indeed you pass by them at dawn
Ayah 138
Wabiallayli afala taAAqiloona
Wa Bil-Layli 'Afalā Ta`qilūna
and at night. Do you not exercise your reason
Ayah 139
Wainna yoonusa lamina almursaleena
Wa 'Inna Yūnis Lamina Al-Mursalīna
Indeed Jonah was one of the apostles
Ayah 140
Ith abaqa ila alfulki almashhooni
Idh 'Abaqa 'Ilá Al-Fulki Al-Mashĥūni
When he absconded toward the laden ship
Ayah 141
Fasahama fakana mina almudhadeena
Fasāhama Fakāna Mina Al-Mudĥađīna
he drew lots with them and was the one to be condemned [as one to be thrown overboard]
Ayah 142
Failtaqamahu alhootu wahuwa muleemun
Fāltaqamahu Al-Ĥūtu Wa Huwa Mulīmun
Then the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy
Ayah 143
Falawla annahu kana mina almusabbiheena
Falawlā 'Annahu Kāna Mina Al-Musabbiĥīna
Had he not been one of those who celebrate Allah’s glory
Ayah 144
Lalabitha fee batnihi ila yawmi yubAAathoona
Lalabitha Fī Baţnihi 'Ilá Yawmi Yub`athūna
he would have surely remained in its belly till the day they will be resurrected
Ayah 145
Fanabathnahu bialAAarai wahuwa saqeemun
Fanabadhnāhu Bil-`Arā'i Wa Huwa Saqīmun
Then We cast him on a bare shore, and he was sick
Ayah 146
Waanbatna AAalayhi shajaratan min yaqteenin
Wa 'Anbatnā `Alayhi Shajaratan Min Yaqţīnin
So We made a gourd plant grow above him
Ayah 147
Waarsalnahu ila miati alfin aw yazeedoona
Wa 'Arsalnāhu 'Ilá Miā'ati 'Alfin 'Aw Yazīdūna
We sent him to a [community of] hundred thousand or more
Ayah 148
Faamanoo famattaAAnahum ila heenin
Fa'āmanū Famatta`nāhum 'Ilá Ĥīnin
and they believed [in him]. So We provided for them for a while
Ayah 149
Faistaftihim alirabbika albanatu walahumu albanoona
Fāstaftihim 'Alirabbika Al-Banātu Wa Lahumu Al-Banūna
Ask them, are daughters to be for your Lord while sons are to be for them
Ayah 150
Am khalaqna almalaikata inathan wahum shahidoona
Am Khalaqnā Al-Malā'ikata 'Ināthāan Wa Hum Shāhidūna
Did We create the angels females while they were present
Ayah 151
Ala innahum min ifkihim layaqooloona
Alā 'Innahum Min 'Ifkihim Layaqūlūna
Be aware that it is out of their mendacity that they say
Ayah 152
Walada Allahu wainnahum lakathiboona
Walada Allāhu Wa 'Innahum Lakādhibūna
‘Allah has begotten [offsprings],’ and they indeed speak a falsehood
Ayah 153
Astafa albanati AAala albaneena
Āşţafá Al-Banāti `Alá Al-Banīna
Has He preferred daughters to sons
Ayah 154
Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoona
Mā Lakum Kayfa Taĥkumūna
What is the matter with you? How do you judge
Ayah 155
Afala tathakkaroona
Afalā Tadhakkarūn
Will you not then take admonition
Ayah 156
Am lakum sultanun mubeenun
Am Lakum Sulţānun Mubīnun
Do you have a manifest authority
Ayah 157
Fatoo bikitabikum in kuntum sadiqeena
Fa'tū Bikitābikum 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna
Then produce your scripture, should you be truthful
Ayah 158
WajaAAaloo baynahu wabayna aljinnati nasaban walaqad AAalimati aljinnatu innahum lamuhdaroona
Wa Ja`alū Baynahu Wa Bayna Al-Jinnati Nasabāan Wa Laqad `Alimati Al-Jinnatu 'Innahum Lamuĥđarūna
And they have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn, while the jinn certainly know that they will be presented [before Him]
Ayah 159
Subhana Allahi AAamma yasifoona
Subĥāna Allāhi `Ammā Yaşifūna
Clear is Allah of whatever they allege [about Him]
Ayah 160
Illa AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena
Illā `Ibāda Allāhi Al-Mukhlaşīna
—[all] except Allah’s exclusive servants
Ayah 161
Fainnakum wama taAAbudoona
Fa'innakum Wa Mā Ta`budūna
Indeed you and what you worship
Ayah 162
Ma antum AAalayhi bifatineena
Mā 'Antum `Alayhi Bifātinīna
cannot mislead [anyone] about Him
Ayah 163
Illa man huwa sali aljaheemi
Illā Man Huwa Şālī Al-Jaĥīmi
except someone who is bound for hell
Ayah 164
Wama minna illa lahu maqamun maAAloomun
Wa Mā Minnā 'Illā Lahu Maqāmun Ma`lūmun
‘There is none among us but has a known place
Ayah 165
Wainna lanahnu alssaffoona
Wa 'Innā Lanaĥnu Aş-Şāffūna
It is we who are the ranged ones
Ayah 166
Wainna lanahnu almusabbihoona
Wa 'Innā Lanaĥnu Al-Musabbiĥūna
It is we who celebrate Allah’s glory.’
Ayah 167
Wain kanoo layaqooloona
Wa 'In Kānū Layaqūlūna
They indeed, used to say
Ayah 168
Law anna AAindana thikran mina alawwaleena
Law 'Anna `Indanā Dhikrāan Mina Al-'Awwalīna
‘Had we possessed a Reminder from our predecessors
Ayah 169
Lakunna AAibada Allahi almukhlaseena
Lakunnā `Ibāda Allāhi Al-Mukhlaşīna
we would have surely been Allah’s exclusive servants.’
Ayah 170
Fakafaroo bihi fasawfa yaAAlamoona
Fakafarū Bihi Fasawfa Ya`lamūna
But they disbelieved it [when it came to them]. Soon they will know
Ayah 171
Walaqad sabaqat kalimatuna liAAibadina almursaleena
Wa Laqad Sabaqat Kalimatunā Li`ibādinā Al-Mursalīn
Certainly Our decree has gone beforehand in favour of Our servants, the apostles
Ayah 172
Innahum lahumu almansooroona
Innahum Lahumu Al-Manşūrūna
that they will indeed receive [Allah’s] help
Ayah 173
Wainna jundana lahumu alghaliboona
Wa 'Inna Jundanā Lahumu Al-Ghālibūna
and indeed Our hosts will be the victors
Ayah 174
Fatawalla AAanhum hatta heenin
Fatawalla `Anhum Ĥattá Ĥīnin
So leave them alone for a while
Ayah 175
Waabsirhum fasawfa yubsiroona
Wa 'Abşirhum Fasawfa Yubşirūna
and watch them; soon they will see [the truth of the matter]
Ayah 176
AfabiAAathabina yastaAAjiloona
Afabi`adhābinā Yasta`jilūna
Do they seek to hasten Our punishment
Ayah 177
Faitha nazala bisahatihim fasaa sabahu almunthareena
Fa'idhā Nazala Bisāĥatihim Fasā'a Şabāĥu Al-Mundharīna
But when it descends in their courtyard it will be a dismal dawn for those who had been warned
Ayah 178
Watawalla AAanhum hatta heenin
Wa Tawalla `Anhum Ĥattá Ĥīnin
So leave them alone for a while
Ayah 179
Waabsir fasawfa yubsiroona
Wa 'Abşir Fasawfa Yubşirūna
and watch; soon they will see
Ayah 180
Subhana rabbika rabbi alAAizzati AAamma yasifoona
Subĥāna Rabbika Rabbi Al-`Izzati `Ammā Yaşifūna
Clear is your Lord, the Lord of Might, of whatever they allege [concerning Him]
Ayah 181
Wasalamun AAala almursaleena
Wa Salāmun `Alá Al-Mursalīna
Peace be to the apostles
Ayah 182
Waalhamdu lillahi rabbi alAAalameena
Wa Al-Ĥamdu LillÄhi Rabbi Al-`Ä€lamÄ«na
All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds
