Surah 47

سُورَةُ مُحَمَّدٍ

Medinan 38 Verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1

Ayah 1

Allatheena kafaroo wasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi adalla aAAmalahum

Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Wa Şaddū `An Sabīli Allāhi 'Ađalla 'A`mālahum

God has made devoid of all virtue the deeds of those who have disbelieved and prevented others from the way of God

Ayah 2

Waallatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati waamanoo bima nuzzila AAala muhammadin wahuwa alhaqqu min rabbihim kaffara AAanhum sayyiatihim waaslaha balahum

Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Wa 'Āmanū Bimā Nuzzila `Alá Muĥammadin Wa Huwa Al-Ĥaqqu Min Rabbihim Kaffara `Anhum Sayyi'ātihim Wa 'Aşlaĥa Bālahum

God forgives the sins and reforms the hearts of the righteously striving believers who have faith in what is revealed to Muhammad - which is the Truth from his Lord

Ayah 3

Thalika bianna allatheena kafaroo ittabaAAoo albatila waanna allatheena amanoo ittabaAAoo alhaqqa min rabbihim kathalika yadribu Allahu lilnnasi amthalahum

Dhālika Bi'anna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Attaba`ū Al-Bāţila Wa 'Anna Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Attaba`ū Al-Ĥaqqa Min Rabbihim Kadhālika Yađribu Allāhu Lilnnāsi 'Amthālahum

This is because the disbelievers have followed falsehood and the believers have followed the Truth from their Lord. Thus God explains to the human being their own prospects

Ayah 4

Faitha laqeetumu allatheena kafaroo fadarba alrriqabi hatta itha athkhantumoohum fashuddoo alwathaqa faimma mannan baAAdu waimma fidaan hatta tadaAAa alharbu awzaraha thalika walaw yashao Allahu laintasara minhum walakin liyabluwa baAAdakum bibaAAdin waallatheena qutiloo fee sabeeli Allahi falan yudilla aAAmalahum

Fa'idhā Laqītumu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Fađarba Ar-Riqābi Ĥattá 'Idhā 'Athkhantumūhum Fashuddū Al-Wathāqa Fa'immā Mannāan Ba`du Wa 'Immā Fidā'an Ĥattá Tađa`a Al-Ĥarbu 'Awzārahā Dhālika Wa Law Yashā'u Allāhu Lāntaşara Minhum Wa Lakin Liyabluwa Ba`đakum Biba`đin Wa Al-Ladhīna Qutilū Fī Sabīli Allāhi Falan Yuđilla 'A`mālahum

If you encounter the disbelievers in a battle, strike-off their heads. Take them as captives when they are defeated. Then you may set them free as a favor to them, with or without a ransom, when the battle is over. This is the Law. Had God wanted, He could have granted them (unbelievers) victory, but He wants to test you through each other. The deeds of those who are killed for the cause of God will never be without virtuous results

Ayah 5

Sayahdeehim wayuslihu balahum

Sayahdīhim Wa Yuşliĥu Bālahum

God will lead them to everlasting happiness and improve their condition

6

Ayah 6

Wayudkhiluhumu aljannata AAarrafaha lahum

Wa Yudkhiluhumu Al-Jannata `Arrafahā Lahum

He will admit them into the Paradise which He has made known to them

7

Ayah 7

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo in tansuroo Allaha yansurkum wayuthabbit aqdamakum

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'In Tanşurū Allāha Yanşurkum Wa Yuthabbit 'Aqdāmakum

Believers, if you help God, He will help you and make you steadfast (in your faith)

Ayah 8

Waallatheena kafaroo fataAAsan lahum waadalla aAAmalahum

Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Fata`sāan Lahum Wa 'Ađalla 'A`mālahum

The fate of the disbelievers will be to stumble and their deeds will have no virtuous results

Ayah 9

Thalika biannahum karihoo ma anzala Allahu faahbata aAAmalahum

Dhālika Bi'annahum Karihū Mā 'Anzala Allāhu Fa'aĥbaţa 'A`mālahum

they have hated God's revelation, and thus, He has made their deeds devoid of all virtue

Ayah 10

Afalam yaseeroo fee alardi fayanthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihim dammara Allahu AAalayhim walilkafireena amthaluha

Afalam Yasīrū Fī Al-'Arđi Fayanžurū Kayfa Kāna `Āqibatu Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Dammara Allāhu `Alayhim Wa Lilkāfirīna 'Amthāluhā

Have they not travelled through the land and seen the terrible end of those who lived before them? God brought upon them utter destruction and the disbelievers will also faced similar perdition

Ayah 11

Thalika bianna Allaha mawla allatheena amanoo waanna alkafireena la mawla lahum

Dhālika Bi'anna Allāha Mawlá Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa 'Anna Al-Kāfirīna Lā Mawlá Lahum

God is the guardian of the believers, but the disbelievers have no guardian

Ayah 12

Inna Allaha yudkhilu allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu waallatheena kafaroo yatamattaAAoona wayakuloona kama takulu alanAAamu waalnnaru mathwan lahum

Inna Allāha Yudkhilu Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Jannātin Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Yatamatta`ūna Wa Ya'kulūna Kamā Ta'kulu Al-'An`ām Wa An-Nāru Mathwáan Lahum

God will admit the righteously striving believers into the gardens wherein streams flow. However, the disbelievers who enjoyed themselves and ate like cattle will have for their dwelling hell fire

Ayah 13

Wakaayyin min qaryatin hiya ashaddu quwwatan min qaryatika allatee akhrajatka ahlaknahum fala nasira lahum

Wa Ka'ayyin Min Qaryatin Hiya 'Ashaddu Qūwatan Min Qaryatika Allatī 'Akhrajatka 'Ahlaknāhum Falā Nāşira Lahum

(Muhammad), how many towns, much more powerful than the one from which you have been expelled, have We destroyed and left helpless

Ayah 14

Afaman kana AAala bayyinatin min rabbihi kaman zuyyina lahu sooo AAamalihi waittabaAAoo ahwaahum

Afaman Kāna `Alá Bayyinatin Min Rabbihi Kaman Zuyyina Lahu Sū'u `Amalihi Wa Attaba`ū 'Ahwā'ahum

Can the one who follows the authority of his Lord be considered equal to the one whose evil deeds are made to seem attractive to him and who follows his own desires

Ayah 15

Mathalu aljannati allatee wuAAida almuttaqoona feeha anharun min main ghayri asinin waanharun min labanin lam yataghayyar taAAmuhu waanharun min khamrin laththatin lilshsharibeena waanharun min AAasalin musaffan walahum feeha min kulli alththamarati wamaghfiratun min rabbihim kaman huwa khalidun fee alnnari wasuqoo maan hameeman faqattaAAa amAAaahum

Mathalu Al-Jannati Allatī Wu`ida Al-Muttaqūna Fīhā 'Anhārun Min Mā'in Ghayri 'Āsinin Wa 'Anhārun Min Labanin Lam Yataghayyar Ţa`muhu Wa 'Anhārun Min Khamrin Ladhatin Lilshāribīna Wa 'Anhārun Min `Asalin Muşaffáan Wa Lahum Fīhā Min Kulli Ath-Thamarāti Wa Maghfiratun Min Rabbihim Kaman Huwa Khālidun Fī An-Nāri Wa Suqū Mā'an Ĥamīmāan Faqaţţa`a 'Am`ā'ahum

The garden, which is promised to the pious, is like one in which there are streams of unpolluted water, streams of milk of unchangeable taste, streams of delicious wine, and streams of crystal clear honey. Therein they will have all kinds of fruits and forgiveness from their Lord. On the other hand (can these people be considered like), those who will live forever in hell fire and will drink boiling water which will rip their intestines to bits

Ayah 16

Waminhum man yastamiAAu ilayka hatta itha kharajoo min AAindika qaloo lillatheena ootoo alAAilma matha qala anifan olaika allatheena tabaAAa Allahu AAala quloobihim waittabaAAoo ahwaahum

Wa Minhum Man Yastami`u 'Ilayka Ĥattá 'Idhā Kharajū Min `Indika Qālū Lilladhīna 'Ūtū Al-`Ilma Mādhā Qāla 'Ānifāan 'Ūlā'ika Al-Ladhīna Ţaba`a Allāhu `Alá Qulūbihim Wa Attaba`ū 'Ahwā'ahum

(Muhammad), some of them listen to you, but when they leave you they ask those who have received knowledge, "What did he say a few moments ago?" God has sealed the hearts of such people who have followed their worldly desires

Ayah 17

Waallatheena ihtadaw zadahum hudan waatahum taqwahum

Wa Al-Ladhīna Ahtadaw Zādahum Hudáan Wa 'Ātāhum Taqwhum

God will increase the guidance and piety of those who seek guidance

Ayah 18

Fahal yanthuroona illa alssaAAata an tatiyahum baghtatan faqad jaa ashratuha faanna lahum itha jaathum thikrahum

Fahal Yanžurūna 'Illā As-Sā`ata 'An Ta'tiyahum Baghtatan Faqad Jā'a 'Ashrāţuhā Fa'anná Lahum 'Idhā Jā'at/hum Dhikrāhum

Are they waiting for the Hour of Doom to suddenly approach them? Its signs have already appeared. How will they then come to their senses when the Hour itself will approach them

Ayah 19

FaiAAlam annahu la ilaha illa Allahu waistaghfir lithanbika walilmumineena waalmuminati waAllahu yaAAlamu mutaqallabakum wamathwakum

Fā`lam 'Annahu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Allāhu Wa Astaghfir Lidhanbika Wa Lilmu'uminīna Wa Al-Mu'umināti Wa Allāhu Ya`lamu Mutaqallabakum Wa Mathwākum

Know that God is the only Lord. Ask forgiveness for your sins and for the sins of the believing men and women. God knows when you move and when you rest

Ayah 20

Wayaqoolu allatheena amanoo lawla nuzzilat sooratun faitha onzilat sooratun muhkamatun wathukira feeha alqitalu raayta allatheena fee quloobihim maradun yanthuroona ilayka nathara almaghshiyyi AAalayhi mina almawti faawla lahum

Wa Yaqūlu Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Lawlā Nuzzilat Sūratun Fa'idhā 'Unzilat Sūratun Muĥkamatun Wa Dhukira Fīhā Al-Qitālu Ra'ayta Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Yanžurūna 'Ilayka Nažara Al-Maghshīyi `Alayhi Mina Al-Mawti Fa'awlá Lahum

The believers say, "Why is a chapter about jihad - fighting for the cause of God - not revealed?" But when such a chapter, with clear commands and a mention of jihad is revealed, you will see those whose hearts are sick look at you as if suffering the agony of death. One can expect nothing better from them

Ayah 21

TaAAatun waqawlun maAAroofun faitha AAazama alamru falaw sadaqoo Allaha lakana khayran lahum

Ţā`atun Wa Qawlun Ma`rūfun Fa'idhā `Azama Al-'Amru Falaw Şadaqū Allāha Lakāna Khayrāan Lahum

Since they have (pledged) Us obedience and to speak reasonably, it would be more proper for them, when it is decided (that everyone must take part in the battle), to remain true (in their pledge to God)

Ayah 22

Fahal AAasaytum in tawallaytum an tufsidoo fee alardi watuqattiAAoo arhamakum

Fahal `Asaytum 'In Tawallaytum 'An Tufsidū Fī Al-'Arđi Wa Tuqaţţi`ū 'Arĥāmakum

If you ignore the commands of God would you then also spread evil in the land and sever the ties of kinship

23

Ayah 23

Olaika allatheena laAAanahumu Allahu faasammahum waaAAma absarahum

Ūlā'ika Al-Ladhīna La`anahumu Allāhu Fa'aşammahum Wa 'A`má 'Abşārahum

God has condemned these people and made them deaf, dumb, and blind

24

Ayah 24

Afala yatadabbaroona alqurana am AAala quloobin aqfaluha

Afalā Yatadabbarūna Al-Qur'āna 'Am `Alá Qulūbin 'Aqfāluhā

Is it that they do not think about the Quran or are their hearts sealed

25

Ayah 25

Inna allatheena irtaddoo AAala adbarihim min baAAdi ma tabayyana lahumu alhuda alshshaytanu sawwala lahum waamla lahum

Inna Al-Ladhīna Artaddū `Alá 'Adbārihim Min Ba`di Mā Tabayyana Lahumu Al-Hudá Ash-Shayţānu Sawwala Lahum Wa 'Amlá Lahum

Those who have reverted to disbelief after guidance has become manifest to them, have been seduced and given false hopes by satan

Ayah 26

Thalika biannahum qaloo lillatheena karihoo ma nazzala Allahu sanuteeAAukum fee baAAdi alamri waAllahu yaAAlamu israrahum

Dhālika Bi'annahum Qālū Lilladhīna Karihū Mā Nazzala Allāhu Sanuţī`ukum Fī Ba`đi Al-'Amri Wa Allāhu Ya`lamu 'Isrārahum

This is because they have said to those who hate God's revelation, "We shall obey you in some matters." But God knows all their secrets

27

Ayah 27

Fakayfa itha tawaffathumu almalaikatu yadriboona wujoohahum waadbarahum

Fakayfa 'Idhā Tawaffat/humu Al-Malā'ikatu Yađribūna Wujūhahum Wa 'Adbārahum

How terrible it will be for them when the angels take away their souls by striking their faces and their backs

28

Ayah 28

Thalika biannahumu ittabaAAoo ma askhata Allaha wakarihoo ridwanahu faahbata aAAmalahum

Dhālika Bi'annahumu Attaba`ū Mā 'Askhaţa Allāha Wa Karihū Riđwānahu Fa'aĥbaţa 'A`mālahum

for their following that which had incurred God's anger, and their hatred to please God. Thus, God has made their deeds devoid of all virtue

29

Ayah 29

Am hasiba allatheena fee quloobihim maradun an lan yukhrija Allahu adghanahum

Am Ĥasiba Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun 'An Lan Yukhrija Allāhu 'Ađghānahum

Do those whose hearts are sick think that God will never make their malice public

30

Ayah 30

Walaw nashao laaraynakahum falaAAaraftahum biseemahum walataAArifannahum fee lahni alqawli waAllahu yaAAlamu aAAmalakum

Wa Law Nashā'u La'araynākahum Fala`araftahum Bisīmāhum Wa Lata`rifannahum Fī Laĥni Al-Qawli Wa Allāhu Ya`lamu 'A`mālakum

Had We wanted, We could have made you recognize their faces. You will certainly recognize them by the tone of their speech. God knows all your deeds

31

Ayah 31

Walanabluwannakum hatta naAAlama almujahideena minkum waalssabireena wanabluwa akhbarakum

Wa Lanabluwannakum Ĥattá Na`lama Al-Mujāhidīna Minkum Wa Aş-Şābirīna Wa Nabluwa 'Akhbārakum

We shall certainly test you until We know those who strive hard for the cause of God and those who exercise patience. We will also examine your deeds

Ayah 32

Inna allatheena kafaroo wasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi washaqqoo alrrasoola min baAAdi ma tabayyana lahumu alhuda lan yaduroo Allaha shayan wasayuhbitu aAAmalahum

Inna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Wa Şaddū `An Sabīli Allāhi Wa Shāqqū Ar-Rasūla Min Ba`di Mā Tabayyana Lahumu Al-Hudá Lan Yađurrū Allāha Shay'āan Wa Sayuĥbiţu 'A`mālahum

The disbelievers who prevent others from the way of God and give the Messengers a hard time - even after the guidance has been made clear to them - will never be able to cause any harm to God, and He will turn their deeds devoid of all virtue

33

Ayah 33

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ateeAAoo Allaha waateeAAoo alrrasoola wala tubtiloo aAAmalakum

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Aţī`ū Allāha Wa 'Aţī`ū Ar-Rasūla Wa Lā Tubţilū 'A`mālakum

Believers, obey God and the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds

34

Ayah 34

Inna allatheena kafaroo wasaddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi thumma matoo wahum kuffarun falan yaghfira Allahu lahum

Inna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Wa Şaddū `An Sabīli Allāhi Thumma Mātū Wa Hum Kuffārun Falan Yaghfira Allāhu Lahum

God will never forgive the disbelievers who prevent others from the way of God and who die as disbelievers

35

Ayah 35

Fala tahinoo watadAAoo ila alssalmi waantumu alaAAlawna waAllahu maAAakum walan yatirakum aAAmalakum

Falā Tahinū Wa Tad`ū 'Ilá As-Salmi Wa 'Antumu Al-'A`lawna Wa Allāhu Ma`akum Wa Lan Yatirakum 'A`mālakum

Do not be weak hearted and do not appeal for an (unjust) settlement; you have the upper hand. God is with you and He will never reduce the reward for your deeds

36

Ayah 36

Innama alhayatu alddunya laAAibun walahwun wain tuminoo watattaqoo yutikum ojoorakum wala yasalkum amwalakum

Innamā Al-Ĥayāatu Ad-Dunyā La`ibun Wa Lahwun Wa 'In Tu'uminū Wa Tattaqū Yu'utikum 'Ujūrakum Wa Lā Yas'alkum 'Amwālakum

The worldly life is only a childish game. If you have faith and piety, you will receive your rewards and God will not ask you to pay for them

37

Ayah 37

In yasalkumooha fayuhfikum tabkhaloo wayukhrij adghanakum

In Yas'alkumūhā Fayuĥfikum Tabkhalū Wa Yukhrij 'Ađghānakum

Should He ask for your possessions you would be niggardly as it would be hard for you to give. Thus, He would make your malice become public

Ayah 38

Haantum haolai tudAAawna litunfiqoo fee sabeeli Allahi faminkum man yabkhalu waman yabkhal fainnama yabkhalu AAan nafsihi waAllahu alghaniyyu waantumu alfuqarao wain tatawallaw yastabdil qawman ghayrakum thumma la yakoonoo amthalakum

Hā'antum Hā'uulā' Tud`awna Litunfiqū Fī Sabīli Allāhi Faminkum Man Yabkhalu Wa Man Yabkhal Fa'innamā Yabkhalu `An Nafsihi Wa Allāhu Al-Ghanīyu Wa 'Antumu Al-Fuqarā'u Wa 'In Tatawallaw Yastabdil Qawmāan Ghayrakum Thumma Lā Yakūnū 'Amthālakum

It is you who are asked to spend for the cause of God, but some of you behave in a niggardly way. Whoever behaves miserly does so against his own soul. God is Self-sufficient and you are poor. If you were to turn away from Him, He would just replace you with another people, who will not be like you
