Al-Muzzammil

Ya ayyuha almuzzammilu

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Muzzammilu

O you wrapped up in your mantle

Qumi allayla illa qaleelan

Qumi Al-Layla 'Illā Qalīlāan

Stand vigil through the night, except for a little [of it]

Nisfahu awi onqus minhu qaleelan

Nişfahu 'Aw Anquş Minhu Qalīlāan

a half, or reduce a little from that

Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqurana tarteelan

Aw Zid `Alayhi Wa Rattili Al-Qur'āna Tartīlāan

or add to it, and recite the Quran in a measured tone

Inna sanulqee AAalayka qawlan thaqeelan

Innā Sanulqī `Alayka Qawlāan Thaqīlāan

Indeed soon We shall cast on you a weighty discourse

Inna nashiata allayli hiya ashaddu watan waaqwamu qeelan

Inna Nāshi'ata Al-Layli Hiya 'Ashaddu Waţ'āan Wa 'Aqwamu Qīlāan

Indeed the watch of the night is firmer in tread and more upright in respect to speech

Inna laka fee alnnahari sabhan taweelan

Inna Laka Fī Aalnnahāri Sabĥāan Ţawīlāan

for indeed during the day you have drawn-out engagements

Waothkuri isma rabbika watabattal ilayhi tabteelan

Wa Adhkur Asma Rabbika Wa Tabattal 'Ilayhi Tabtīlāan

So celebrate the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself to Him with total dedication

Rabbu almashriqi waalmaghribi la ilaha illa huwa faittakhithhu wakeelan

Rabbu Al-Mashriqi Wa Al-Maghribi Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa Fa Attakhidh/hu Wa Kīlāan

Lord of the east and the west, there is no god except Him; so take Him for your trustee

Waisbir AAala ma yaqooloona waohjurhum hajran jameelan

Wa Aşbir `Alá Mā Yaqūlūna Wa Ahjurhum Hajrāan Jamīlāan

and be patient over what they say, and distance yourself from them in a graceful manner

Watharnee waalmukaththibeena olee alnnaAAmati wamahhilhum qaleelan

Wa Dharnī Wa Al-Mukadhibīna 'Ūlī An-Na`mati Wa Mahhilhum Qalīlāan

Leave Me [to deal] with the deniers, the opulent, and give them a little respite

Inna ladayna ankalan wajaheeman

Inna Ladaynā 'Ankālāan Wa Jaĥīmāan

Indeed with Us are heavy fetters and a fierce fire

WataAAaman tha ghussatin waAAathaban aleeman

Wa Ţa`āmāan Dhā Ghuşşatin Wa `Adhābāan 'Alīmāan

and a food that chokes [those who eat it], and a painful punishment [prepared for]

Yawma tarjufu alardu waaljibalu wakanati aljibalu katheeban maheelan

Yawma Tarjufu Al-'Arđu Wa Al-Jibālu Wa Kānati Al-Jibālu Kathībāan Mahīlāan

the day when the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will be like dunes of shifting sand

Inna arsalna ilaykum rasoolan shahidan AAalaykum kama arsalna ila firAAawna rasoolan

Innā 'Arsalnā 'Ilaykum Rasūlāan Shāhidāan `Alaykum Kamā 'Arsalnā 'Ilá Fir`awna Rasūlāan

Indeed We have sent to you an apostle, to be a witness to you, just as We sent an apostle to Pharaoh

FaAAasa firAAawnu alrrasoola faakhathnahu akhthan wabeelan

Fa`aşá Fir`awnu Ar-Rasūla Fa'akhadhnāhu 'Akhdhāan Wabīlāan

But Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a terrible seizing

Fakayfa tattaqoona in kafartum yawman yajAAalu alwildana sheeban

Fakayfa Tattaqūna 'In Kafartum Yawmāan Yaj`alu Al-Wildāna Shībāan

So, if you disbelieve, how will you avoid the day, which will make children white-headed

Alssamao munfatirun bihi kana waAAduhu mafAAoolan

As-Samā'u Munfaţirun Bihi Kāna Wa`duhu Maf`ūlāan

and wherein the sky will be rent apart? His promise is bound to be fulfilled

Inna hathihi tathkiratun faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeelan

Inna Hadhihi Tadhkiratun Faman Shā'a Attakhadha 'Ilá Rabbihi Sabīlāan

This is indeed a reminder. So let anyone who wishes take the way toward his Lord

Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adna min thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wataifatun mina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiru allayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohu fataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara mina alqurani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoona yadriboona fee alardi yabtaghoona min fadli Allahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata waaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wama tuqaddimoo lianfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahi huwa khayran waaAAthama ajran waistaghfiroo Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

Inna Rabbaka Ya`lamu 'Annaka Taqūmu 'Adná Min Thuluthayi Al-Layli Wa Nişfahu Wa Thuluthahu Wa Ţā'ifatun Mina Al-Ladhīna Ma`aka Wa Allāhu Yuqaddiru Al-Layla Wa An-Nahāra `Alima 'An Lan Tuĥşūhu Fatāba `Alaykum Fāqra'ū Mā Tayassara Mina Al-Qur'āni `Alima 'An Sayakūnu Minkum Marđá Wa 'Ākharūna Yađribūna Fī Al-'Arđi Yabtaghūna Min Fađli Allāhi Wa 'Ākharūna Yuqātilūna Fī Sabīli Allāhi Fāqra'ū Mā Tayassara Minhu Wa 'Aqīmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātū Az-Zakāata Wa 'Aqriđū Allāha Qarđāan Ĥasanāan Wa Mā Tuqaddimū Li'nfusikum Min Khayrin Tajidūhu `Inda Allāhi Huwa Khayrāan Wa 'A`žama 'Ajrāan Wa Astaghfirū Allāha 'Inna Allāha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

Indeed your Lord knows that you stand vigil for nearly two thirds of the night—or [at times] a half or a third of it—along with a group of those who are with you. Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you cannot calculate it [exactly], and so He was lenient toward you. So recite as much of the Quran as is feasible. He knows that some of you will be sick, while others will travel in the land seeking Allah’s bounty, and yet others will fight in the way of Allah. So recite as much of it as is feasible, and maintain the prayer and pay the zakat and lend Allah a good loan. Whatever good you send ahead for your souls you will find it with Allah [in a form] that is better and greater with respect to reward. And plead to Allah for forgiveness; indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful
