Al-Qiyaama

La oqsimu biyawmi alqiyamati

Lā 'Uqsimu Biyawmi Al-Qiyāmahi

I swear by the Day of Resurrection

Wala oqsimu bialnnafsi allawwamati

Wa Lā 'Uqsimu Bin-Nafsi Al-Lawwāmahi

And I swear by the self-critical soul

Ayahsabu alinsanu allan najmaAAa AAithamahu

Ayaĥsabu Al-'Insānu 'Allan Najma`a `Ižāmahu

Does man suppose that We will not put together his bones [at resurrection]

Bala qadireena AAala an nusawwiya bananahu

Balá Qādirīna `Alá 'An Nusawwiya Banānahu

Yes indeed, We are able to [re]shape [even] his fingertips

Bal yureedu alinsanu liyafjura amamahu

Bal Yurīdu Al-'Insānu Liyafjura 'Amāmahu

Indeed, man desires to go on living viciously

Yasalu ayyana yawmu alqiyamati

Yas'alu 'Ayyāna Yawmu Al-Qiyāmahi

He asks, ‘When will be this “day of resurrection”?!’

Faitha bariqa albasaru

Fa'idhā Bariqa Al-Başaru

But when the eyes are dazzled

Wakhasafa alqamaru

Wa Khasafa Al-Qamaru

the moon is eclipsed

WajumiAAa alshshamsu waalqamaru

Wa Jumi`a Ash-Shamsu Wa Al-Qamaru

and the sun and the moon are brought together

Yaqoolu alinsanu yawmaithin ayna almafarru

Yaqūlu Al-'Insānu Yawma'idhin 'Ayna Al-Mafarru

that day man will say, ‘Where is the escape [from this day]?’

Kalla la wazara

Kallā Lā Wazara

No indeed! There will be no refuge

Ila rabbika yawmaithin almustaqarru

Ilá Rabbika Yawma'idhin Al-Mustaqarru

That day the [final] goal will be toward your Lord

Yunabbao alinsanu yawmaithin bima qaddama waakhkhara

Yunabba'u Al-'Insānu Yawma'idhin Bimā Qaddama Wa 'Akhkhara

That day man will be informed about what [works] he had sent ahead [to the scene of judgement] and [the legacy that he had] left behind

Bali alinsanu AAala nafsihi baseeratun

Bali Al-'Insānu `Alá Nafsihi Başīrahun

Indeed, man is a witness to himself

Walaw alqa maAAatheerahu

Wa Law 'Alqá Ma`ādhīrahu

though he should offer excuses [to justify his failings]

La tuharrik bihi lisanaka litaAAjala bihi

Lā Tuĥarrik Bihi Lisānaka Lita`jala Bihi

Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it

Inna AAalayna jamAAahu waquranahu

Inna `Alaynā Jam`ahu Wa Qur'ānahu

Indeed it is up to Us to put it together and to recite it

Faitha qaranahu faittabiAA quranahu

Fa'idhā Qara'nāhu Fa Attabi` Qur'ānahu

And when We have recited it, follow its recitation

Thumma inna AAalayna bayanahu

Thumma 'Inna `Alaynā Bayānahu

Then, its exposition [also] lies with Us

Kalla bal tuhibboona alAAajilata

Kallā Bal Tuĥibbūna Al-`Ājilaha

No! Indeed, you love this transitory life

Watatharoona alakhirata

Wa Tadharūna Al-'Ākhiraha

and forsake the Hereafter

Wujoohun yawmaithin nadiratun

Wujūhun Yawma'idhin Nāđirahun

Some faces will be fresh on that day

Ila rabbiha nathiratun

Ilá Rabbihā Nāžirahun

looking to their Lord

Wawujoohun yawmaithin basiratun

Wa Wujūhun Yawma'idhin Bāsirahun

and some faces will be scowling on that day

Tathunnu an yufAAala biha faqiratun

Tažunnu 'An Yuf`ala Bihā Fāqirahun

knowing that they will be dealt out a punishment breaking the spine

Kalla itha balaghati alttaraqiya

Kallā 'Idhā Balaghati At-Tarāqī

No indeed! When it reaches up to the collar bones

Waqeela man raqin

Wa Qīla Man Rāqin

and it is said, ‘Who will take him up?’

Wathanna annahu alfiraqu

Wa Žanna 'Annahu Al-Firāqu

and he knows that it is the [time of] parting

Wailtaffati alssaqu bialssaqi

Wa At-Taffati As-Sāqu Bis-Sāqi

and each shank clasps the other shank

Ila rabbika yawmaithin almasaqu

Ilá Rabbika Yawma'idhin Al-Masāqu

that day he shall be driven toward your Lord

Fala saddaqa wala salla

Falā Şaddaqa Wa Lā Şallá

He neither confirmed [the messages of Allah], nor did he pray

Walakin kaththaba watawalla

Wa Lakin Kadhaba Wa Tawallá

but denied [them] and turned away

Thumma thahaba ila ahlihi yatamatta

Thumma Dhahaba 'Ilá 'Ahlihi Yatamaţţá

and went back swaggering to his family

Awla laka faawla

Awlá Laka Fa'awlá

So, woe to you! Woe to you

Thumma awla laka faawla

Thumma 'Awlá Laka Fa'awlá

Again, woe to you! Woe to you

Ayahsabu alinsanu an yutraka sudan

Ayaĥsabu Al-'Insānu 'An Yutraka Sudáan

Does man suppose that he has been abandoned to futility

Alam yaku nutfatan min manayyin yumna

Alam Yaku Nuţfatan Min Manīyin Yumná

Was he not a drop of emitted semen

Thumma kana AAalaqatan fakhalaqa fasawwa

Thumma Kāna `Alaqatan Fakhalaqa Fasawwá

and then a clinging mass? Whereat He created and proportioned [him]

FajaAAala minhu alzzawjayni alththakara waalontha

Faja`ala Minhu Az-Zawjayni Adh-Dhakara Wa Al-'Unthá

and made of him the two sexes, male and female

Alaysa thalika biqadirin AAala an yuhyiya almawta

Alaysa Dhālika Biqādirin `Alá 'An Yuĥyiya Al-Mawtá

Is not [someone like] that able to revive the dead
