Surah 8

Al-Anfaal

The Spoils of War

سُورَةُ الأَنفَالِ

Medinan 75 Verses

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1

Ayah 1

Yasaloonaka AAani alanfali quli alanfalu lillahi waalrrasooli faittaqoo Allaha waaslihoo thata baynikum waateeAAoo Allaha warasoolahu in kuntum mumineena

Yas'alūnaka `Ani Al-'Anfāl Quli Al-'Anfāli Lillāhi Wa Ar-Rasūli Fa Attaqū Allāha Wa 'Aşliĥū Dhāta Baynikum Wa 'Aţī`ū Allāha Wa Rasūlahu 'In Kuntum Mu'uminīna

They (the believers) ask you (Muhammad) about the booty captured (from the enemies) during a war. Tell them, "It belongs to God and the Messengers. If you have faith, have fear of God. Settle the disputes among yourselves and obey God and His Messengers

Ayah 2

Innama almuminoona allatheena itha thukira Allahu wajilat quloobuhum waitha tuliyat AAalayhim ayatuhu zadathum eemanan waAAala rabbihim yatawakkaloona

Innamā Al-Mu'uminūna Al-Ladhīna 'Idhā Dhukira Allāhu Wajilat Qulūbuhum Wa 'Idhā Tuliyat `Alayhim 'Āyātuhu Zādat/hum 'Īmānāan Wa `Alá Rabbihim Yatawakkalūna

When God is mentioned, the true believers begin to feel fear of Him in their hearts and when His revelations are recited to them their faith strengthens. In God alone do they trust

Ayah 3

Allatheena yuqeemoona alssalata wamimma razaqnahum yunfiqoona

Al-Ladhīna Yuqīmūna Aş-Şalāata Wa Mimmā Razaqnāhum Yunfiqūna

They are steadfast in prayer and spend part of what We have given them for the cause of God

Ayah 4

Olaika humu almuminoona haqqan lahum darajatun AAinda rabbihim wamaghfiratun warizqun kareemun

Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mu'uminūna Ĥaqqāan Lahum Darajātun `Inda Rabbihim Wa Maghfiratun Wa Rizqun Karīmun

Such are the true believers. Their reward from their Lord will be high ranks, forgiveness, and a generous provision

Ayah 5

Kama akhrajaka rabbuka min baytika bialhaqqi wainna fareeqan mina almumineena lakarihoona

Kamā 'Akhrajaka Rabbuka Min Baytika Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa 'Inna Farīqāan Mina Al-Mu'uminīna Lakārihūna

A group among the believers dislike (God's decree about the booty captured in war) as well as His command that you come out of your home for a truthful purpose (to fight for justice)

Ayah 6

Yujadiloonaka fee alhaqqi baAAdama tabayyana kaannama yusaqoona ila almawti wahum yanthuroona

Yujādilūnaka Fī Al-Ĥaqqi Ba`damā Tabayyana Ka'annamā Yusāqūna 'Ilá Al-Mawti Wa Hum Yanžurūna

Knowing it well (that a fight in which they are to take part is about to take place), they act as though they are being driven to death which they can see before their very eyes. Despite their knowledge of the truth, they still argue with you

Ayah 7

Waith yaAAidukumu Allahu ihda alttaifatayni annaha lakum watawaddoona anna ghayra thati alshshawkati takoonu lakum wayureedu Allahu an yuhiqqa alhaqqa bikalimatihi wayaqtaAAa dabira alkafireena

Wa 'Idh Ya`idukumu Allāhu 'Iĥdá Aţ-Ţā'ifatayni 'Annahā Lakum Wa Tawaddūna 'Anna Ghayra Dhāti Ash-Shawkati Takūnu Lakum Wa Yurīdu Allāhu 'An Yuĥiqqa Al-Ĥaqqa Bikalimātihi Wa Yaqţa`a Dābira Al-Kāfirīna

When God promised to grant you (believers) victory over either one of the two groups, you wished to have control over the unarmed one. God decided to prove (to you) the truth of His promises and to destroy the unbelievers

Ayah 8

Liyuhiqqa alhaqqa wayubtila albatila walaw kariha almujrimoona

Liyuĥiqqa Al-Ĥaqqa Wa Yubţila Al-Bāţila Wa Law Kariha Al-Mujrimūna

so that the truth would stand supreme and falsehood would exist no more, even though the criminals dislike it

Ayah 9

Ith tastagheethoona rabbakum faistajaba lakum annee mumiddukum bialfin mina almalaikati murdifeena

Idh Tastaghīthūna Rabbakum Fāstajāba Lakum 'Annī Mumiddukum Bi'alfin Mina Al-Malā'ikati Murdifīna

When you (believers) begged for assistance from your Lord, He said, "I am helping you with a thousand angels, all in rows marching one after the other

Ayah 10

Wama jaAAalahu Allahu illa bushra walitatmainna bihi quloobukum wama alnnasru illa min AAindi Allahi inna Allaha AAazeezun hakeemun

Wa Mā Ja`alahu Allāhu 'Illā Bushrá Wa Litaţma'inna Bihi Qulūbukum Wa Mā An-Naşru 'Illā Min `Indi Allāhi 'Inna Allāha `Azīzun Ĥakīmun

God has sent this glad news to comfort your hearts. Victory is in the hands of God alone. God is Majestic and All-wise

Ayah 11

Ith yughashsheekumu alnnuAAasa amanatan minhu wayunazzilu AAalaykum mina alssamai maan liyutahhirakum bihi wayuthhiba AAankum rijza alshshaytani waliyarbita AAala quloobikum wayuthabbita bihi alaqdama

Idh Yughashīkumu An-Nu`āsa 'Amanatan Minhu Wa Yunazzilu `Alaykum Mina As-Samā'i Mā'an Liyuţahhirakum Bihi Wa Yudh/hiba `Ankum Rijza Ash-Shayţāni Wa Liyarbiţa `Alá Qulūbikum Wa Yuthabbita Bihi Al-'Aqdāma

The slumber that overcame you was from God that brought you peace. He showered water from the sky over you to clean you, remove satanic wickedness from you, strengthen your hearts, and grant you steadfastness

Ayah 12

Ith yoohee rabbuka ila almalaikati annee maAAakum fathabbitoo allatheena amanoo saolqee fee quloobi allatheena kafaroo alrruAAba faidriboo fawqa alaAAnaqi waidriboo minhum kulla bananin

Idh Yūĥī Rabbuka 'Ilá Al-Malā'ikati 'Annī Ma`akum Fathabbitū Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Sa'ulqī Fī Qulūbi Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Ar-Ru`ba Fāđribū Fawqa Al-'A`nāqi Wa Ađribū Minhum Kulla Banānin

Your Lord inspired the angels saying, "I am with you. Encourage the believers. I shall cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers and you will strike their heads and limbs

Ayah 13

Thalika biannahum shaqqoo Allaha warasoolahu waman yushaqiqi Allaha warasoolahu fainna Allaha shadeedu alAAiqabi

Dhālika Bi'annahum Shāqqū Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Wa Man Yushāqiqi Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Fa'inna Allāha Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi

they have opposed God and His Messengers." For those who oppose God and His Messengers, God has prepared a severe retribution

Ayah 14

Thalikum fathooqoohu waanna lilkafireena AAathaba alnnari

Dhālikum Fadhūqūhu Wa 'Anna Lilkāfirīna `Adhāba An-Nāri

We will say to them, "Endure the torment (as a consequence of your evil deeds); the unbelievers deserve nothing better than (the torment) of fire

Ayah 15

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha laqeetumu allatheena kafaroo zahfan fala tuwalloohumu aladbara

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Idhā Laqītumu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Zaĥfāan Falā Tuwallūhumu Al-'Adbāra

Believers, do not retreat when facing the marching army of the unbelievers, for no believer will turn back at that time except for strategic reasons or to join another band

Ayah 16

Waman yuwallihim yawmaithin duburahu illa mutaharrifan liqitalin aw mutahayyizan ila fiatin faqad baa bighadabin mina Allahi wamawahu jahannamu wabisa almaseeru

Wa Man Yuwallihim Yawma'idhin Duburahu 'Illā Mutaĥarrifāan Liqitālin 'Aw Mutaĥayyizāan 'Ilá Fi'atin Faqad Bā'a Bighađabin Mina Allāhi Wa Ma'wāhu Jahannamu Wa Bi'sa Al-Maşīru

(Whoever deserts the believers) will incur the wrath of God and will dwell in hell, a terrible dwelling

Ayah 17

Falam taqtuloohum walakinna Allaha qatalahum wama ramayta ith ramayta walakinna Allaha rama waliyubliya almumineena minhu balaan hasanan inna Allaha sameeAAun AAaleemun

Falam Taqtulūhum Wa Lakinna Allāha Qatalahum Wa Mā Ramayta 'Idh Ramayta Wa Lakinna Allāha Ramá Wa Liyubliya Al-Mu'uminīna Minhu Balā'an Ĥasanāan 'Inna Allāha Samī`un `Alīmun

It was not you (believers) but God who slew the pagans. It was not you (Muhammad) but God who threw dust at them. He did this as a favorable test for the believers. God is All-hearing and All-knowing

Ayah 18

Thalikum waanna Allaha moohinu kaydi alkafireena

Dhālikum Wa 'Anna Allāha Mūhinu Kaydi Al-Kāfirīna

This is how God causes the (evil) plans of the unbelievers to fail

Ayah 19

In tastaftihoo faqad jaakumu alfathu wain tantahoo fahuwa khayrun lakum wain taAAoodoo naAAud walan tughniya AAankum fiatukum shayan walaw kathurat waanna Allaha maAAa almumineena

In Tastaftiĥū Faqad Jā'akumu Al-Fatĥu Wa 'In Tantahū Fahuwa Khayrun Lakum Wa 'In Ta`ūdū Na`ud Wa Lan Tughniya `Ankum Fi'atukum Shay'āan Wa Law Kathurat Wa 'Anna Allāha Ma`a Al-Mu'uminīna

If you (the pagans) are looking for conquest, you certainly had a great chance (at the battle of Badr). But if you were to give up such a desire, it would be better for you. If you again wage war against Us, We will be ready for such a confrontation. Your man-power will be of no help to you no matter how much you have; God is with the believers

Ayah 20

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ateeAAoo Allaha warasoolahu wala tawallaw AAanhu waantum tasmaAAoona

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Aţī`ū Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Wa Lā Tawallaw `Anhu Wa 'Antum Tasma`ūna

Believers, obey God and His Messengers and do not turn away from Him when you hear (His commands)

21

Ayah 21

Wala takoonoo kaallatheena qaloo samiAAna wahum la yasmaAAoona

Wa Lā Takūnū Kālladhīna Qālū Sami`nā Wa Hum Lā Yasma`ūna

Do not be like those who said that they have heard (the Messenger's commands) but do not pay any attention to them

22

Ayah 22

Inna sharra alddawabbi AAinda Allahi alssummu albukmu allatheena la yaAAqiloona

Inna Sharra Ad-Dawābbi `Inda Allāhi Aş-Şummu Al-Bukmu Al-Ladhīna Lā Ya`qilūna

The most wicked beasts in the sight of God are the deaf and the dumb who have no understanding

23

Ayah 23

Walaw AAalima Allahu feehim khayran laasmaAAahum walaw asmaAAahum latawallaw wahum muAAridoona

Wa Law `Alima Allāhu Fīhim Khayrāan La'asma`ahum Wa Law 'Asma`ahum Latawallaw Wa Hum Mu`riđūna

Had they possessed any virtue, God would certainly have made them hear. Even if God were to make them hear, they would still turn away from (the words of God)

Ayah 24

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo istajeeboo lillahi walilrrasooli itha daAAakum lima yuhyeekum waiAAlamoo anna Allaha yahoolu bayna almari waqalbihi waannahu ilayhi tuhsharoona

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Astajībū Lillāhi Wa Lilrrasūli 'Idhā Da`ākum Limā Yuĥyīkum Wa A`lamū 'Anna Allāha Yaĥūlu Bayna Al-Mar'i Wa Qalbihi Wa 'Annahu 'Ilayhi Tuĥsharūna

Believers, listen to God and the Messengers when they call you to that which gives you life. Know that God is between a man and his heart and that before Him you will all be brought together

25

Ayah 25

Waittaqoo fitnatan la tuseebanna allatheena thalamoo minkum khassatan waiAAlamoo anna Allaha shadeedu alAAiqabi

Wa Attaqū Fitnatan Lā Tuşībanna Al-Ladhīna Žalamū Minkum Khāşşatan Wa A`lamū 'Anna Allāha Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi

Guard yourselves against discord among yourselves so that it will not mislead anyone of you, especially the unjust, and know that God's retribution is most severe

26

Ayah 26

Waothkuroo ith antum qaleelun mustadAAafoona fee alardi takhafoona an yatakhattafakumu alnnasu faawakum waayyadakum binasrihi warazaqakum mina alttayyibati laAAallakum tashkuroona

Wa Adhkurū 'Idh 'Antum Qalīlun Mustađ`afūna Fī Al-'Arđi Takhāfūna 'An Yatakhaţţafakumu An-Nāsu Fa'āwākum Wa 'Ayyadakum Binaşrihi Wa Razaqakum Mina Aţ-Ţayyibāti La`allakum Tashkurūna

Recall the time when you (the believers) were only a few suppressed people in the land, afraid of being terrorized by the people. God gave you shelter, supported you with His help, and bestowed on you pure provisions so that perhaps you would give Him thanks

27

Ayah 27

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la takhoonoo Allaha waalrrasoola watakhoonoo amanatikum waantum taAAlamoona

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Lā Takhūnū Allāha Wa Ar-Rasūla Wa Takhūnū 'Amānātikum Wa 'Antum Ta`lamūna

Believers, do not be dishonest to God and the Messengers or knowingly abuse your trust

28

Ayah 28

WaiAAlamoo annama amwalukum waawladukum fitnatun waanna Allaha AAindahu ajrun AAatheemun

Wa A`lamū 'Annamā 'Amwālukum Wa 'Awlādukum Fitnatun Wa 'Anna Allāha `Indahu 'Ajrun `Ažīmun

Know that your possessions and children are a temptation for you and that God has the greatest reward (for the righteous ones)

29

Ayah 29

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo in tattaqoo Allaha yajAAal lakum furqanan wayukaffir AAankum sayyiatikum wayaghfir lakum waAllahu thoo alfadli alAAatheemi

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'In Tattaqū Allāha Yaj`al Lakum Furqānāan Wa Yukaffir `Ankum Sayyi'ātikum Wa Yaghfir Lakum Wa Allāhu Dhū Al-Fađli Al-`Ažīmi

Believers, if you fear God, He will give you guidance, will expiate your bad deeds and forgive you. God's favors are the greatest

30

Ayah 30

Waith yamkuru bika allatheena kafaroo liyuthbitooka aw yaqtulooka aw yukhrijooka wayamkuroona wayamkuru Allahu waAllahu khayru almakireena

Wa 'Idh Yamkuru Bika Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Liyuthbitūka 'Aw Yaqtulūka 'Aw Yukhrijūka Wa Yamkurūna Wa Yamkuru Allāhu Wa Allāhu Khayru Al-Mākirīna

The unbelievers planned to imprison, murder or expel you (Muhammad) from your city. They make evil plans but God too plans and God's plans are the best

31

Ayah 31

Waitha tutla AAalayhim ayatuna qaloo qad samiAAna law nashao laqulna mithla hatha in hatha illa asateeru alawwaleena

Wa 'Idhā Tutlá `Alayhim 'Āyātunā Qālū Qad Sami`nā Law Nashā'u Laqulnā Mithla Hādhā 'In Hādhā 'Illā 'Asāţīru Al-'Awwalīna

When Our revelations are recited to them (the unbelievers), they say, "We have heard them. Had we wanted, we could also have composed such statements; they are no more than ancient legends

Ayah 32

Waith qaloo allahumma in kana hatha huwa alhaqqa min AAindika faamtir AAalayna hijaratan mina alssamai awi itina biAAathabin aleemin

Wa 'Idh Qālū Al-Lahumma 'In Kāna Hādhā Huwa Al-Ĥaqqa Min `Indika Fa'amţir `Alaynā Ĥijāratan Mina As-Samā'i 'Aw A'tinā Bi`adhābin 'Alīmin

They also say, "Lord, if this (Quran) is the Truth from you, shower down stones on us from the sky instead of rain or send us a painful punishment

33

Ayah 33

Wama kana Allahu liyuAAaththibahum waanta feehim wama kana Allahu muAAaththibahum wahum yastaghfiroona

Wa Mā Kāna Allāhu Liyu`adhibahum Wa 'Anta Fīhim Wa Mā Kāna Allāhu Mu`adhibahum Wa Hum Yastaghfirūna

God would not punish them while you were among them nor while they were asking for forgiveness

34

Ayah 34

Wama lahum alla yuAAaththibahumu Allahu wahum yasuddoona AAani almasjidi alharami wama kanoo awliyaahu in awliyaohu illa almuttaqoona walakinna aktharahum la yaAAlamoona

Wa Mā Lahum 'Allā Yu`adhibahumu Allāhu Wa Hum Yaşuddūna `Ani Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi Wa Mā Kānū 'Awliyā'ahu 'In 'Awliyā'uuhu 'Illā Al-Muttaqūna Wa Lakinna 'Aktharahum Lā Ya`lamūna

Why should God not punish them when they hinder people from entering the sacred mosque? They are not its true patrons. Only the righteous ones are its patrons, but most of the pagans do not know

35

Ayah 35

Wama kana salatuhum AAinda albayti illa mukaan watasdiyatan fathooqoo alAAathaba bima kuntum takfuroona

Wa Mā Kāna Şalātuhum `Inda Al-Bayti 'Illā Mukā'an Wa Taşdiyatan Fadhūqū Al-`Adhāba Bimā Kuntum Takfurūna

Their (unbelievers) prayer at the mosque is nothing but whistling and clapping of hands. We shall tell them, "Suffer torment for your disbelief

Ayah 36

Inna allatheena kafaroo yunfiqoona amwalahum liyasuddoo AAan sabeeli Allahi fasayunfiqoonaha thumma takoonu AAalayhim hasratan thumma yughlaboona waallatheena kafaroo ila jahannama yuhsharoona

Inna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Yunfiqūna 'Amwālahum Liyaşuddū `An Sabīli Allāhi Fasayunfiqūnahā Thumma Takūnu `Alayhim Ĥasratan Thumma Yughlabūna Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū 'Ilá Jahannama Yuĥsharūna

The disbelievers spend their wealth to turn men away from the way of God. They will continue to spend but it will become a source of regret for them and they will be defeated (because of their evil plans). The disbelievers will be gathered all togdher in Hell

37

Ayah 37

Liyameeza Allahu alkhabeetha mina alttayyibi wayajAAala alkhabeetha baAAdahu AAala baAAdin fayarkumahu jameeAAan fayajAAalahu fee jahannama olaika humu alkhasiroona

Liyamīza Allāhu Al-Khabītha Mina Aţ-Ţayyibi Wa Yaj`ala Al-Khabītha Ba`đahu `Alá Ba`đin Fayarkumahu Jamī`āan Fayaj`alahu Fī Jahannama 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Khāsirūna

God will separate the wicked from the pure and will pile the wicked ones on top of one anothcr to be cast into hell. They are indeed lost

38

Ayah 38

Qul lillatheena kafaroo in yantahoo yughfar lahum ma qad salafa wain yaAAoodoo faqad madat sunnatu alawwaleena

Qul Lilladhīna Kafarū 'In Yantahū Yughfar Lahum Mā Qad Salafa Wa 'In Ya`ūdū Faqad Mađat Sunnatu Al-'Awwalīna

Muhammad, tell the unbelievers, if you give up your evil behavior, God will forgive whatever you have done in the past. But if you transgras again, your fate will be the same as that of those (unbelievers) who lived before you

39

Ayah 39

Waqatiloohum hatta la takoona fitnatun wayakoona alddeenu kulluhu lillahi faini intahaw fainna Allaha bima yaAAmaloona baseerun

Wa Qātilūhum Ĥattá Lā Takūna Fitnatun Wa Yakūna Ad-Dīnu Kulluhu Lillāhi Fa'ini Antahaw Fa'inna Allāha Bimā Ya`malūna Başīrun

(Fight them so that idolatry will not exist any more and God's religion will stand supreme. If theygive up the idols), God will be Well Aware of what they do

40

Ayah 40

Wain tawallaw faiAAlamoo anna Allaha mawlakum niAAma almawla waniAAma alnnaseeru

Wa 'In Tawallaw Fā`lamū 'Anna Allāha Mawlākum Ni`ma Al-Mawlá Wa Ni`ma An-Naşīru

If the (unbelievers) turn away from the faith, God is you (believers) best Guardian and best Helper

41

Ayah 41

WaiAAlamoo annama ghanimtum min shayin faanna lillahi khumusahu walilrrasooli walithee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeni waibni alssabeeli in kuntum amantum biAllahi wama anzalna AAala AAabdina yawma alfurqani yawma iltaqa aljamAAani waAllahu AAala kulli shayin qadeerun

Wa A`lamū 'Annamā Ghanimtum Min Shay'in Fa'anna Lillāhi Khumusahu Wa Lilrrasūli Wa Lidhī Al-Qurbá Wa Al-Yatāmá Wa Al-Masākīni Wa Abni As-Sabīli 'In Kuntum 'Āmantum Billāhi Wa Mā 'Anzalnā `Alá `Abdinā Yawma Al-Furqāni Yawma At-Taqá Al-Jam`āni Wa Allāhu `Alá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrun

Know that whatever property you may gain, one fifth belongs to God, the Messenger, the kindred, orphans, the needy and those who need money while on a journey. (This is the law) if you believe in God and what We revealed to Our Servant on the Day of Distinction (Badr) when the armies confronted each other. God has power over all things

42

Ayah 42

Ith antum bialAAudwati alddunya wahum bialAAudwati alquswa waalrrakbu asfala minkum walaw tawaAAadtum laikhtalaftum fee almeeAAadi walakin liyaqdiya Allahu amran kana mafAAoolan liyahlika man halaka AAan bayyinatin wayahya man hayya AAan bayyinatin wainna Allaha lasameeAAun AAaleemun

Idh 'Antum Bil-`Udwati Ad-Dunyā Wa Hum Bil-`Udwati Al-Quşwá Wa Ar-Rakbu 'Asfala Minkum Wa Law Tawā`adttum Lākhtalaftum Fī Al-Mī`ādi Wa Lakin Liyaqđiya Allāhu 'Amrāan Kāna Maf`ūlāan Liyahlika Man Halaka `An Bayyinatin Wa Yaĥyá Man Ĥayya `An Bayyinatin Wa 'Inna Allāha Lasamī`un `Alīmun

Recall when your army was positioned at the less defensible brink of the valley, (the pagans') army had the more defensible higher side of the valley and the caravan was led (out of your reach) below. This situation did not take place according to your previous plans, otherwise, everything would have been different. (It was God's plan) to place you in a vulnerable position, exposed to the enemy and it was His plan to lead the caravan out of your reach) so that His decree that you would be granted a victory by a miracle would become a doubtless fact and so that those who were to be destroyed would face destruction with a clear knowledge of the Truth and those who were to survive would also survive with a clear knowledge of the Truth. God is All-hearing and All-knowing

Ayah 43

Ith yureekahumu Allahu fee manamika qaleelan walaw arakahum katheeran lafashiltum walatanazaAAtum fee alamri walakinna Allaha sallama innahu AAaleemun bithati alssudoori

Idh Yurīkahumu Allāhu Fī Manāmika Qalīlāan Wa Law 'Arākahum Kathīrāan Lafashiltum Wa Latanāza`tum Fī Al-'Amri Wa Lakinna Allāha Sallama 'Innahu `Alīmun Bidhāti Aş-Şudūri

In your dream, God showed (the pagans' army) as being only a few in number, for if He had showed them as a great number, you would have lost courage and would have started to quarrel among yourselves concerning this matter. But God saved you from that condition; He knows what is in your hearts

Ayah 44

Waith yureekumoohum ithi iltaqaytum fee aAAyunikum qaleelan wayuqallilukum fee aAAyunihim liyaqdiya Allahu amran kana mafAAoolan waila Allahi turjaAAu alomooru

Wa 'Idh Yurīkumūhum 'Idhi At-Taqaytum Fī 'A`yunikum Qalīlāan Wa Yuqallilukum Fī 'A`yunihim Liyaqđiya Allāhu 'Amrāan Kāna Maf`ūlāan Wa 'Ilá Allāhi Turja`u Al-'Umūru

When you met the pagans' army, God made them appear fewer in your eyes and you appear fewer in their eyes so that His miracle of granting you (an incredible) victory could easily be fulfilled. To God do all things return

Ayah 45

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha laqeetum fiatan faothbutoo waothkuroo Allaha katheeran laAAallakum tuflihoona

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Idhā Laqītum Fi'atan Fāthbutū Wa Adhkurū Allāha Kathīrāan La`allakum Tufliĥūna

Believers, stand firm when you meet a band of your enemy and remember God often so that you may have everlasting happiness

Ayah 46

WaateeAAoo Allaha warasoolahu wala tanazaAAoo fatafshaloo watathhaba reehukum waisbiroo inna Allaha maAAa alssabireena

Wa 'Aţī`ū Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Wa Lā Tanāza`ū Fatafshalū Wa Tadh/haba Rīĥukum Wa Aşbirū 'Inna Allāha Ma`a Aş-Şābirīna

Obey God and His Messenger. Do not quarrel with each other lest you fail or lose honor. Exercise patience; God is with those who have patience

Ayah 47

Wala takoonoo kaallatheena kharajoo min diyarihim bataran wariaa alnnasi wayasuddoona AAan sabeeli Allahi waAllahu bima yaAAmaloona muheetun

Wa Lā Takūnū Kālladhīna Kharajū Min Diyārihim Baţarāan Wa Ri'ā'a An-Nāsi Wa Yaşuddūna `An Sabīli Allāhi Wa Allāhu Bimā Ya`malūna Muĥīţun

Do not be like those who marched out boastfully to show off their strength to people and hinder people from the way of God. God encompasses everyone's activities

Ayah 48

Waith zayyana lahumu alshshaytanu aAAmalahum waqala la ghaliba lakumu alyawma mina alnnasi wainnee jarun lakum falamma taraati alfiatani nakasa AAala AAaqibayhi waqala innee bareeon minkum innee ara ma la tarawna innee akhafu Allaha waAllahu shadeedu alAAiqabi

Wa 'Idh Zayyana Lahumu Ash-Shayţānu 'A`mālahum Wa Qāla Lā Ghāliba Lakumu Al-Yawma Mina An-Nāsi Wa 'Innī Jārun Lakum Falammā Tarā'ati Al-Fi'atāni Nakaşa `Alá `Aqibayhi Wa Qāla 'Innī Barī'un Minkum 'Innī 'Ará Mā Lā Tarawna 'Inniyi 'Akhāfu Allāha Wa Allāhu Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi

Satan made their (pagans') deeds seem attractive to them and said to them, "No one today is more powerful than you and I am your supporter." But when the two armies confronted one another and the pagans were defeated, then satan betrayed his friends saying, "I am not with you any more; I see what you do not see and I am afraid of God." God is severe in His retribution

Ayah 49

Ith yaqoolu almunafiqoona waallatheena fee quloobihim maradun gharra haolai deenuhum waman yatawakkal AAala Allahi fainna Allaha AAazeezun hakeemun

Idh Yaqūlu Al-Munāfiqūna Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Gharra Hā'uulā' Dīnuhum Wa Man Yatawakkal `Alá Allāhi Fa'inna Allāha `Azīzun Ĥakīmun

The hypocrites and those whose hearts are sick, say, "The (believers') religion has deceived them." Those who trust in God will find Him Majestic and All-wise

Ayah 50

Walaw tara ith yatawaffa allatheena kafaroo almalaikatu yadriboona wujoohahum waadbarahum wathooqoo AAathaba alhareeqi

Wa Law Tará 'Idh Yatawaffá Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Al-Malā'ikatu Yađribūna Wujūhahum Wa 'Adbārahum Wa Dhūqū `Adhāba Al-Ĥarīqi

Would that you could have seen the angels taking the souls of the unbelievers away from their bodies and smiting their faces and their backs saying, "Suffer the burning torment

Ayah 51

Thalika bima qaddamat aydeekum waanna Allaha laysa bithallamin lilAAabeedi

Dhālika Bimā Qaddamat 'Aydīkum Wa 'Anna Allāha Laysa Bižallāmin Lil`abīdi

This is the result of their deeds. God is not unjust to His servants

Ayah 52

Kadabi ali firAAawna waallatheena min qablihim kafaroo biayati Allahi faakhathahumu Allahu bithunoobihim inna Allaha qawiyyun shadeedu alAAiqabi

Kada'bi 'Āli Fir`awna Wa Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Kafarū Bi'āyāti Allāhi Fa'akhadhahumu Allāhu Bidhunūbihim 'Inna Allāha Qawīyun Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi

The same thing happened to the people of Pharaoh and those who lived before them. They rejected the revelations of God and, because of their sins, His retribution struck them. God is All-powerful and stern in His retribution

Ayah 53

Thalika bianna Allaha lam yaku mughayyiran niAAmatan anAAamaha AAala qawmin hatta yughayyiroo ma bianfusihim waanna Allaha sameeAAun AAaleemun

Dhālika Bi'anna Allāha Lam Yaku Mughayyirāan Ni`matan 'An`amahā `Alá Qawmin Ĥattá Yughayyirū Mā Bi'anfusihim Wa 'Anna Allāha Samī`un `Alīmun

God does not change the favor that He has bestowed on a nation unless that nation changes what is in its soul. God is All-hearing and All-knowing

Ayah 54

Kadabi ali firAAawna waallatheena min qablihim kaththaboo biayati rabbihim faahlaknahum bithunoobihim waaghraqna ala firAAawna wakullun kanoo thalimeena

Kada'bi 'Āli Fir`awna Wa Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Kadhabū Bi'āyāti Rabbihim Fa'ahlaknāhum Bidhunūbihim Wa 'Aghraqnā 'Āla Fir`awna Wa Kullun Kānū Žālimīna

Like the people of the Pharaoh and those who lived before them, (the unbelievers) rejected the revelations of God. We destroyed them for their sins and drowned the people of Pharaoh. They were all unjust

Ayah 55

Inna sharra alddawabbi AAinda Allahi allatheena kafaroo fahum la yuminoona

Inna Sharra Ad-Dawābbi `Inda Allāhi Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Fahum Lā Yu'uminūna

The most wicked creatures in the sight of God are the unbelievers who never have faith

Ayah 56

Allatheena AAahadta minhum thumma yanqudoona AAahdahum fee kulli marratin wahum la yattaqoona

Al-Ladhīna `Āhadta Minhum Thumma Yanquđūna `Ahdahum Fī Kulli Marratin Wa Hum Lā Yattaqūna

who make promises but break them every time, and who have no piety

57

Ayah 57

Faimma tathqafannahum fee alharbi fasharrid bihim man khalfahum laAAallahum yaththakkaroona

Fa'immā Tathqafannahum Fī Al-Ĥarbi Fasharrid Bihim Man Khalfahum La`allahum Yadhakkarūna

When you capture the (unbelievers) during a fight, teach them a lesson so that they thereafter will always be aware of the threat of your power

Ayah 58

Waimma takhafanna min qawmin khiyanatan fainbith ilayhim AAala sawain inna Allaha la yuhibbu alkhaineena

Wa 'Immā Takhāfanna Min Qawmin Khiyānatan Fānbidh 'Ilayhim `Alá Sawā'in 'Inna Allāha Lā Yuĥibbu Al-Khā'inīna

If you are afraid of the treachery of some of your allies, you may disregard your treaty with them. God does not love the treacherous ones

Ayah 59

Wala yahsabanna allatheena kafaroo sabaqoo innahum la yuAAjizoona

Wa Lā Yaĥsabanna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Sabaqū 'Innahum Lā Yu`jizūna

The unbelievers should not think that they can really escape Us or that they can never be defeated

Ayah 60

WaaAAiddoo lahum ma istataAAtum min quwwatin wamin ribati alkhayli turhiboona bihi AAaduwwa Allahi waAAaduwwakum waakhareena min doonihim la taAAlamoonahumu Allahu yaAAlamuhum wama tunfiqoo min shayin fee sabeeli Allahi yuwaffa ilaykum waantum la tuthlamoona

Wa 'A`iddū Lahum Mā Astaţa`tum Min Qūwatin Wa Min Ribāţi Al-Khayli Turhibūna Bihi `Adūwa Allāhi Wa `Adūwakum Wa 'Ākharīna Min Dūnihim Lā Ta`lamūnahumu Allāhu Ya`lamuhum Wa Mā Tunfiqū Min Shay'in Fī Sabīli Allāhi Yuwaffa 'Ilaykum Wa 'Antum Lā Tužlamūna

Mobilize your (defensive) force as much as you can to frighten the enemies of God and your own enemies. This also will frighten those who are behind them whom you do not know but God knows well. Whatever you spend for the cause of God, He will give you sufficient recompense with due justice

61

Ayah 61

Wain janahoo lilssalmi faijnah laha watawakkal AAala Allahi innahu huwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu

Wa 'In Janaĥū Lilssalmi Fājnaĥ Lahā Wa Tawakkal `Alá Allāhi 'Innahu Huwa As-Samī`u Al-`Alīmu

If they (the unbelievers) propose peace, accept it and trust in God. God is All-hearing and All-knowing

Ayah 62

Wain yureedoo an yakhdaAAooka fainna hasbaka Allahu huwa allathee ayyadaka binasrihi wabialmumineena

Wa 'In Yurīdū 'An Yakhda`ūka Fa'inna Ĥasbaka Allāhu Huwa Al-Ladhī 'Ayyadaka Binaşrihi Wa Bil-Mu'uminīna

If they want to deceive you, God is All-sufficient for you. It is God who supported you with His own help and with that of the believers

Ayah 63

Waallafa bayna quloobihim law anfaqta ma fee alardi jameeAAan ma allafta bayna quloobihim walakinna Allaha allafa baynahum innahu AAazeezun hakeemun

Wa 'Allafa Bayna Qulūbihim Law 'Anfaqta Mā Fī Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Mā 'Allafta Bayna Qulūbihim Wa Lakinna Allāha 'Allafa Baynahum 'Innahu `Azīzun Ĥakīmun

among whose hearts He has placed affection and unity. If you were to spend the wealth of the whole earth, you would not have been able to unite their hearts but God has been able to unite them. God is Majestic and All-wise

Ayah 64

Ya ayyuha alnnabiyyu hasbuka Allahu wamani ittabaAAaka mina almumineena

Yā 'Ayyuhā An-Nabīyu Ĥasbuka Allāhu Wa Mani Attaba`aka Mina Al-Mu'uminīna

Prophet, God and the believers who follow you are sufficient support for you

Ayah 65

Ya ayyuha alnnabiyyu harridi almumineena AAala alqitali in yakun minkum AAishroona sabiroona yaghliboo miatayni wain yakun minkum miatun yaghliboo alfan mina allatheena kafaroo biannahum qawmun la yafqahoona

Yā 'Ayyuhā An-Nabīyu Ĥarriđi Al-Mu'uminīna `Alá Al-Qitāli 'In Yakun Minkum `Ishrūna Şābirūna Yaghlibū Miā'atayni Wa 'In Yakun Minkum Miā'atun Yaghlibū 'Alfāan Mina Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'annahum Qawmun Lā Yafqahūna

Prophet, mobilize the believers for the battle. It will take only twenty of your men who are steadfast (in prayer) to defeat two hundred unbelieving men. Your two hundred men would defeat their two thousand; the unbelievers have no understanding

Ayah 66

Alana khaffafa Allahu AAankum waAAalima anna feekum daAAfan fain yakun minkum miatun sabiratun yaghliboo miatayni wain yakun minkum alfun yaghliboo alfayni biithni Allahi waAllahu maAAa alssabireena

Al-'Āna Khaffafa Allāhu `Ankum Wa `Alima 'Anna Fīkum Đa`fāan Fa'in Yakun Minkum Miā'atun Şābiratun Yaghlibū Miā'atayni Wa 'In Yakun Minkum 'Alfun Yaghlibū 'Alfayni Bi'idhni Allāhi Wa Allāhu Ma`a Aş-Şābirīna

Now that God has eased your burden, He has found you to be weak. A hundred of your steadfast men would defeat two hundred of theirs and a thousand of yours would defeat two thousand of the unbelievers, by the will of God. God is with those who have patience

Ayah 67

Ma kana linabiyyin an yakoona lahu asra hatta yuthkhina fee alardi tureedoona AAarada alddunya waAllahu yureedu alakhirata waAllahu AAazeezun hakeemun

Mā Kāna Linabīyin 'An Yakūna Lahu 'Asrá Ĥattá Yuthkhina Fī Al-'Arđi Turīdūna `Arađa Ad-Dunyā Wa Allāhu Yurīdu Al-'Ākhirata Wa Allāhu `Azīzun Ĥakīmun

The Prophet is not supposed to take any captives to strengthen his position on the earth. You want worldly gains but God wants the life hereafter for you. God is Majestic and All-wise

Ayah 68

Lawla kitabun mina Allahi sabaqa lamassakum feema akhathtum AAathabun AAatheemun

Lawlā Kitābun Mina Allāhi Sabaqa Lamassakum Fīmā 'Akhadhtum `Adhābun `Ažīmun

(Had you taken captives) before being allowed by God's revelations, a great torment would have struck you for what you had done

Ayah 69

Fakuloo mimma ghanimtum halalan tayyiban waittaqoo Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

Fakulū Mimmā Ghanimtum Ĥalālāan Ţayyibāan Wa Attaqū Allāha 'Inna Allāha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

Use what you have acquired (from the battle) as your own good, lawful property. Have fear of God; He is All-forgiving and All-merciful

Ayah 70

Ya ayyuha alnnabiyyu qul liman fee aydeekum mina alasra in yaAAlami Allahu fee quloobikum khayran yutikum khayran mimma okhitha minkum wayaghfir lakum waAllahu ghafoorun raheemun

Yā 'Ayyuhā An-Nabīyu Qul Liman Fī 'Aydīkum Mina Al-'Asrá 'In Ya`lami Allāhu Fī Qulūbikum Khayrāan Yu'utikum Khayrāan Mimmā 'Ukhidha Minkum Wa Yaghfir Lakum Wa Allāhu Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

Prophet, tell the captives with you, "If God finds anything good in your hearts, He will give you a better reward than that which was taken from you and will forgive you. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful

Ayah 71

Wain yureedoo khiyanataka faqad khanoo Allaha min qablu faamkana minhum waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Wa 'In Yurīdū Khiyānataka Faqad Khānū Allāha Min Qablu Fa'amkana Minhum Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun

Do not be surprised that they want to be dishonest with you; they have always been dishonest with God. However, He has power over them. God is All-knowing and All-wise

Ayah 72

Inna allatheena amanoo wahajaroo wajahadoo biamwalihim waanfusihim fee sabeeli Allahi waallatheena awaw wanasaroo olaika baAAduhum awliyao baAAdin waallatheena amanoo walam yuhajiroo ma lakum min walayatihim min shayin hatta yuhajiroo waini istansarookum fee alddeeni faAAalaykumu alnnasru illa AAala qawmin baynakum wabaynahum meethaqun waAllahu bima taAAmaloona baseerun

Inna Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Hājarū Wa Jāhadū Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim Fī Sabīli Allāhi Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āwaw Wa Naşarū 'Ūlā'ika Ba`đuhum 'Awliyā'u Ba`đin Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Lam Yuhājarū Mā Lakum Min Walāyatihim Min Shay'in Ĥattá Yuhājirū Wa 'Ini Astanşarūkum Fī Ad-Dīni Fa`alaykumu An-Naşru 'Illā `Alá Qawmin Baynakum Wa Baynahum Mīthāqun Wa Allāhu Bimā Ta`malūna Başīrun

The believers who left their homes and strove for the cause of God, through their property and in person and those who gave refuge to them and helped them will be each other's guardians. The believers who did not leave their homes are not your guardians until they too leave their homes. If they ask you for help in a religious cause, you must help them against their enemies unless their enemies have a peace treaty with you. God is Well Aware of what you do

Ayah 73

Waallatheena kafaroo baAAduhum awliyao baAAdin illa tafAAaloohu takun fitnatun fee alardi wafasadun kabeerun

Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Ba`đuhum 'Awliyā'u Ba`đin 'Illā Taf`alūhu Takun Fitnatun Fī Al-'Arđi Wa Fasādun Kabīrun

The unbelievers are each other's friends. If you (the believers) do not keep the same among yourselves in the land, there will come into being widespread idolatry and great evil

Ayah 74

Waallatheena amanoo wahajaroo wajahadoo fee sabeeli Allahi waallatheena awaw wanasaroo olaika humu almuminoona haqqan lahum maghfiratun warizqun kareemun

Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Hājarū Wa Jāhadū Fī Sabīli Allāhi Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āwaw Wa Naşarū 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mu'uminūna Ĥaqqāan Lahum Maghfiratun Wa Rizqun Karīmun

The believers who left their homes, and strove for the cause of God and those who gave them refuge and helped them, are true believers. They will have forgiveness (from their Lord) and (will be granted) honorable provisions

Ayah 75

Waallatheena amanoo min baAAdu wahajaroo wajahadoo maAAakum faolaika minkum waoloo alarhami baAAduhum awla bibaAAdin fee kitabi Allahi inna Allaha bikulli shayin AAaleemun

Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Min Ba`du Wa Hājarū Wa Jāhadū Ma`akum Fa'ūlā'ika Minkum Wa 'Ūlū Al-'Arĥāmi Ba`đuhum 'Awlá Biba`đin Fī Kitābi Allāhi 'Inna Allāha Bikulli Shay'in `Alīmun

Those who accepted the faith later, left their homes and strove with you for the cause of God are also your people. They relatives are nearer to each other according to the Book of God. God has knowledge of all things
