At-Tawba

Baraatun mina Allahi warasoolihi ila allatheena AAahadtum mina almushrikeena

Barā'atun Mina Allāhi Wa Rasūlihi 'Ilá Al-Ladhīna `Āhadttum Mina Al-Mushrikīna

[This is] a [declaration of] repudiation by Allah and His Apostle [addressed] to the polytheists with whom you had made a treaty

Faseehoo fee alardi arbaAAata ashhurin waiAAlamoo annakum ghayru muAAjizee Allahi waanna Allaha mukhzee alkafireena

Fasīĥū Fī Al-'Arđi 'Arba`ata 'Ash/hurin Wa A`lamū 'Annakum Ghayru Mu`jizī Allāhi Wa 'Anna Allāha Mukhzī Al-Kāfirīna

Travel [unmolested] in the land for four months, but know that you cannot frustrate Allah, and that Allah shall disgrace the faithless

Waathanun mina Allahi warasoolihi ila alnnasi yawma alhajji alakbari anna Allaha bareeon mina almushrikeena warasooluhu fain tubtum fahuwa khayrun lakum wain tawallaytum faiAAlamoo annakum ghayru muAAjizee Allahi wabashshiri allatheena kafaroo biAAathabin aleemin

Wa 'Adhānun Mina Allāhi Wa Rasūlihi 'Ilá An-Nāsi Yawma Al-Ĥajji Al-'Akbari 'Anna Allāha Barī'un Mina Al-Mushrikīna Wa Rasūluhu Fa'in Tubtum Fahuwa Khayrun Lakum Wa 'In Tawallaytum Fā`lamū 'Annakum Ghayru Mu`jizī Allāhi Wa Bashiri Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi`adhābin 'Alīmin

[This is] an announcement from Allah and His Apostle to all the people on the day of the greater Hajj: that Allah and His Apostle repudiate the polytheists: If you repent that is better for you; but if you turn your backs [on Allah], know that you cannot frustrate Allah, and inform the faithless of a painful punishment

Illa allatheena AAahadtum mina almushrikeena thumma lam yanqusookum shayan walam yuthahiroo AAalaykum ahadan faatimmoo ilayhim AAahdahum ila muddatihim inna Allaha yuhibbu almuttaqeena

Illā Al-Ladhīna `Āhadttum Mina Al-Mushrikīna Thumma Lam Yanquşūkum Shay'āan Wa Lam Yužāhirū `Alaykum 'Aĥadāan Fa'atimmū 'Ilayhim `Ahdahum 'Ilá Muddatihim 'Inna Allāha Yuĥibbu Al-Muttaqīna

barring the polytheists with whom you have made a treaty, and who did not violate any [of its terms] with you, nor backed anyone against you. So fulfill the treaty with them until [the end of] its term. Indeed Allah loves the Godwary

Faitha insalakha alashhuru alhurumu faoqtuloo almushrikeena haythu wajadtumoohum wakhuthoohum waohsuroohum waoqAAudoo lahum kulla marsadin fain taboo waaqamoo alssalata waatawoo alzzakata fakhalloo sabeelahum inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

Fa'idhā Ansalakha Al-'Ash/huru Al-Ĥurumu Fāqtulū Al-Mushrikīna Ĥaythu Wajadtumūhum Wa Khudhūhum Wa Aĥşurūhum Wāq`udū Lahum Kulla Marşadin Fa'in Tābū Wa 'Aqāmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātaw Az-Zakāata Fakhallū Sabīlahum 'Inna Allāha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

Then, when the sacred months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, capture them and besiege them, and lie in wait for them at every ambush. But if they repent, and maintain the prayer and give the zakat, then let them alone. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful

Wain ahadun mina almushrikeena istajaraka faajirhu hatta yasmaAAa kalama Allahi thumma ablighhu mamanahu thalika biannahum qawmun la yaAAlamoona

Wa 'In 'Aĥadun Mina Al-Mushrikīna Astajāraka Fa'ajirhu Ĥattá Yasma`a Kalāma Allāhi Thumma 'Abligh/hu Ma'manahu Dhālika Bi'annahum Qawmun Lā Ya`lamūna

If any of the polytheists seeks asylum from you, grant him asylum until he hears the Word of Allah. Then convey him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know

Kayfa yakoonu lilmushrikeena AAahdun AAinda Allahi waAAinda rasoolihi illa allatheena AAahadtum AAinda almasjidi alharami fama istaqamoo lakum faistaqeemoo lahum inna Allaha yuhibbu almuttaqeena

Kayfa Yakūnu Lilmushrikīna `Ahdun `Inda Allāhi Wa `Inda Rasūlihi 'Illā Al-Ladhīna `Āhadtum `Inda Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi Famā Astaqāmū Lakum Fāstaqīmū Lahum 'Inna Allāha Yuĥibbu Al-Muttaqīna

How shall the polytheists have any [valid] treaty with Allah and His Apostle?! (Barring those with whom you made a treaty at the Holy Mosque; so long as they are steadfast with you, be steadfast with them. Indeed Allah loves the Godwary)

Kayfa wain yathharoo AAalaykum la yarquboo feekum illan wala thimmatan yurdoonakum biafwahihim wataba quloobuhum waaktharuhum fasiqoona

Kayfa Wa 'In Yažharū `Alaykum Lā Yarqubū Fīkum 'Illāan Wa Lā Dhimmatan Yurđūnakum Bi'afwāhihim Wa Ta'bá Qulūbuhum Wa 'Aktharuhum Fāsiqūna

How? For if, they get the better of you, they will observe toward you neither kinship nor covenant. They please you with their mouths while their hearts spurn you; and most of them are transgressors

Ishtaraw biayati Allahi thamanan qaleelan fasaddoo AAan sabeelihi innahum saa ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

Ashtaraw Bi'āyāti Allāhi Thamanāan Qalīlāan Faşaddū `An Sabīlihi 'Innahum Sā'a Mā Kānū Ya`malūna

They have sold the signs of Allah for a paltry gain, and have barred [the people] from His way. Evil indeed is what they have been doing

La yarquboona fee muminin illan wala thimmatan waolaika humu almuAAtadoona

Lā Yarqubūna Fī Mu'uminin 'Illāan Wa Lā Dhimmatan Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mu`tadūna

They observe toward a believer neither kinship nor covenant, and it is they who are the transgressors

Fain taboo waaqamoo alssalata waatawoo alzzakata faikhwanukum fee alddeeni wanufassilu alayati liqawmin yaAAlamoona

Fa'in Tābū Wa 'Aqāmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātaw Az-Zakāata Fa'ikhwānukum Fī Ad-Dīni Wa Nufaşşilu Al-'Āyāti Liqawmin Ya`lamūna

Yet if they repent and maintain the prayer and give the zakat, then they are your brethren in faith. We elaborate the signs for a people who have knowledge

Wain nakathoo aymanahum min baAAdi AAahdihim wataAAanoo fee deenikum faqatiloo aimmata alkufri innahum la aymana lahum laAAallahum yantahoona

Wa 'In Nakathū 'Aymānahum Min Ba`di `Ahdihim Wa Ţa`anū Fī Dīnikum Faqātilū 'A'immata Al-Kufri 'Innahum Lā 'Aymāna Lahum La`allahum Yantahūna

But if they break their pledges after their having made a treaty and revile your religion, then fight the leaders of unfaith—indeed, they have no [commitment to] pledges,—maybe they will desist

Ala tuqatiloona qawman nakathoo aymanahum wahammoo biikhraji alrrasooli wahum badaookum awwala marratin atakhshawnahum faAllahu ahaqqu an takhshawhu in kuntum mumineena

Alā Tuqātilūna Qawmāan Nakathū 'Aymānahum Wa Hammū Bi'ikhrāji Ar-Rasūli Wa Hum Bada'ūkum 'Awwala Marratin 'Atakhshawnahum Fa-Allāhu 'Aĥaqqu 'An Takhshawhu 'In Kuntum Mu'uminīna

Will you not make war on a people who broke their pledges and resolved to expel the Apostle, and opened [hostilities] against you initially? Do you fear them? But Allah is worthier of being feared by you, should you be faithful

Qatiloohum yuAAaththibhumu Allahu biaydeekum wayukhzihim wayansurkum AAalayhim wayashfi sudoora qawmin mumineena

Qātilūhum Yu`adhibhumu Allāhu Bi'aydīkum Wa Yukhzihim Wa Yanşurkum `Alayhim Wa Yashfi Şudūra Qawmin Mu'uminīna

Make war on them so that Allah may punish them by your hands and humiliate them, and help you against them, and heal the hearts of a faithful folk

Wayuthhib ghaytha quloobihim wayatoobu Allahu AAala man yashao waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Wa Yudh/hib Ghayža Qulūbihim Wa Yatūbu Allāhu `Alá Man Yashā'u Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun

and remove rage from their hearts, and Allah turns clemently to whomever He wishes, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise

Am hasibtum an tutrakoo walamma yaAAlami Allahu allatheena jahadoo minkum walam yattakhithoo min dooni Allahi wala rasoolihi wala almumineena waleejatan waAllahu khabeerun bima taAAmaloona

Am Ĥasibtum 'An Tutrakū Wa Lammā Ya`lami Allāhu Al-Ladhīna Jāhadū Minkum Wa Lam Yattakhidhū Min Dūni Allāhi Wa Lā Rasūlihi Wa Lā Al-Mu'uminīna Walījatan Wa Allāhu Khabīrun Bimā Ta`malūna

Do you suppose that you will be let off while Allah has not yet ascertained those of you who wage jihad and those who do not take anyone as [their] confidant besides Allah and His Apostle and the faithful? Allah is well aware of what you do

Ma kana lilmushrikeena an yaAAmuroo masajida Allahi shahideena AAala anfusihim bialkufri olaika habitat aAAmaluhum wafee alnnari hum khalidoona

Mā Kāna Lilmushrikīna 'An Ya`murū Masājida Allāhi Shāhidīna `Alá 'Anfusihim Bil-Kufri 'Ūlā'ika Ĥabiţat 'A`māluhum Wa Fī An-Nāri Hum Khālidūna

The polytheists may not maintain Allah’s mosques while they are witness to their own unfaith. Their works have failed, and they shall remain in the Fire [forever]

Innama yaAAmuru masajida Allahi man amana biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri waaqama alssalata waata alzzakata walam yakhsha illa Allaha faAAasa olaika an yakoonoo mina almuhtadeena

Innamā Ya`muru Masājida Allāhi Man 'Āmana Billāhi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa 'Aqāma Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātá Az-Zakāata Wa Lam Yakhsha 'Illā Allāha Fa`asá 'Ūlā'ika 'An Yakūnū Mina Al-Muhtadīna

Only those shall maintain Allah’s mosques who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and maintain the prayer, and give the zakat, and fear no one except Allah. They, hopefully, will be among the guided

AjaAAaltum siqayata alhajji waAAimarata almasjidi alharami kaman amana biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri wajahada fee sabeeli Allahi la yastawoona AAinda Allahi waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena

Aja`altum Siqāyata Al-Ĥājji Wa `Imārata Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi Kaman 'Āmana Billāhi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Jāhada Fī Sabīli Allāhi Lā Yastawūna `Inda Allāhi Wa Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Až-Žālimīna

Do you regard the providing of water to Hajj pilgrims and the maintenance of the Holy Mosque as similar [in worth] to someone who has faith in Allah and [believes in] the Last Day and wages jihad in the way of Allah? They are not equal with Allah, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing lot

Allatheena amanoo wahajaroo wajahadoo fee sabeeli Allahi biamwalihim waanfusihim aAAthamu darajatan AAinda Allahi waolaika humu alfaizoona

Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Hājarū Wa Jāhadū Fī Sabīli Allāhi Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim 'A`žamu Darajatan `Inda Allāhi Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Fā'izūna

Those who have believed and migrated, and waged jihad in the way of Allah with their possessions and persons have a greater rank near Allah, and it is they who are the triumphant

Yubashshiruhum rabbuhum birahmatin minhu waridwanin wajannatin lahum feeha naAAeemun muqeemun

Yubashiruhum Rabbuhum Biraĥmatin Minhu Wa Riđwānin Wa Jannātin Lahum Fīhā Na`īmun Muqīmun

Their Lord gives them the good news of His mercy and [His] pleasure, and for them there will be gardens with lasting bliss

Khalideena feeha abadan inna Allaha AAindahu ajrun AAatheemun

Khālidīna Fīhā 'Abadāan 'Inna Allāha `Indahu 'Ajrun `Ažīmun

to remain in them forever. With Allah indeed is a great reward

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la tattakhithoo abaakum waikhwanakum awliyaa ini istahabboo alkufra AAala aleemani waman yatawallahum minkum faolaika humu alththalimoona

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Lā Tattakhidhū 'Ābā'akum Wa 'Ikhwānakum 'Awliyā'a 'Ini Astaĥabbū Al-Kufra `Alá Al-'Īmāni Wa Man Yatawallahum Minkum Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Až-Žālimūna

O you who have faith! Do not befriend your fathers and brothers if they prefer faithlessness to faith. Those of you who befriend them—it is they who are the wrongdoers

Qul in kana abaokum waabnaokum waikhwanukum waazwajukum waAAasheeratukum waamwalun iqtaraftumooha watijaratun takhshawna kasadaha wamasakinu tardawnaha ahabba ilaykum mina Allahi warasoolihi wajihadin fee sabeelihi fatarabbasoo hatta yatiya Allahu biamrihi waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alfasiqeena

Qul 'In Kāna 'Ābā'uukum Wa 'Abnā'uukum Wa 'Ikhwānukum Wa 'Azwājukum Wa `Ashīratukum Wa 'Amwālun Aqtaraftumūhā Wa Tijāratun Takhshawna Kasādahā Wa Masākinu Tarđawnahā 'Aĥabba 'Ilaykum Mina Allāhi Wa Rasūlihi Wa Jihādin Fī Sabīlihi Fatarabbaşū Ĥattá Ya'tiya Allāhu Bi'amrihi Wa Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Al-Fāsiqīna

Say, ‘If your fathers and your sons, your brethren, your spouses, and your kinsfolk, the possessions that you have acquired, the business you fear may suffer, and the dwellings you are fond of, are dearer to you than Allah and His Apostle and to waging jihad in His way, then wait until Allah issues His edict, and Allah does not guide the transgressing lot

Laqad nasarakumu Allahu fee mawatina katheeratin wayawma hunaynin ith aAAjabatkum kathratukum falam tughni AAankum shayan wadaqat AAalaykumu alardu bima rahubat thumma wallaytum mudbireena

Laqad Naşarakumu Allāhu Fī Mawāţina Kathīratin Wa Yawma Ĥunaynin 'Idh 'A`jabatkum Kathratukum Falam Tughni `Ankum Shay'āan Wa Đāqat `Alaykumu Al-'Arđu Bimā Raĥubat Thumma Wallaytum Mudbirīna

Allah has certainly helped you in many situations, and on the day of Hunayn, when your great number impressed you, but it did not avail you in any way, and the earth became narrow for you in spite of its expanse, whereupon you turned your backs [to flee]

Thumma anzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAala rasoolihi waAAala almumineena waanzala junoodan lam tarawha waAAaththaba allatheena kafaroo wathalika jazao alkafireena

Thumma 'Anzala Allāhu Sakīnatahu `Alá Rasūlihi Wa `Alá Al-Mu'uminīna Wa 'Anzala Junūdāan Lam Tarawhā Wa `Adhaba Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Wa Dhalika Jazā'u Al-Kāfirīna

Then Allah sent down His composure upon His Apostle and upon the faithful, and He sent down hosts you did not see, and He punished the faithless, and that is the requital of the faithless

Thumma yatoobu Allahu min baAAdi thalika AAala man yashao waAllahu ghafoorun raheemun

Thumma Yatūbu Allāhu Min Ba`di Dhālika `Alá Man Yashā'u Wa Allāhu Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

Then Allah shall turn clemently after that to whomever He wishes. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo innama almushrikoona najasun fala yaqraboo almasjida alharama baAAda AAamihim hatha wain khiftum AAaylatan fasawfa yughneekumu Allahu min fadlihi in shaa inna Allaha AAaleemun hakeemun

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Innamā Al-Mushrikūna Najasun Falā Yaqrabū Al-Masjida Al-Ĥarāma Ba`da `Āmihim Hādhā Wa 'In Khiftum `Aylatan Fasawfa Yughnīkumu Allāhu Min Fađlihi 'In Shā'a 'Inna Allāha `Alīmun Ĥakīmun

O you who have faith! The polytheists are indeed unclean: so let them not approach the Holy Mosque after this year. Should you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you out of His grace, if He wishes. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-wise

Qatiloo allatheena la yuminoona biAllahi wala bialyawmi alakhiri wala yuharrimoona ma harrama Allahu warasooluhu wala yadeenoona deena alhaqqi mina allatheena ootoo alkitaba hatta yuAAtoo aljizyata AAan yadin wahum saghiroona

Qātilū Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Billāhi Wa Lā Bil-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Lā Yuĥarrimūna Mā Ĥarrama Allāhu Wa Rasūluhu Wa Lā Yadīnūna Dīna Al-Ĥaqqi Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Ĥattá Yu`ţū Al-Jizyata `An Yadin Wa Hum Şāghirūna

Fight those who do not have faith in Allah nor [believe] in the Last Day, nor forbid what Allah and His Apostle have forbidden, nor practise the true religion, from among those who were given the Book, until they pay the tribute out of hand, degraded

Waqalati alyahoodu AAuzayrun ibnu Allahi waqalati alnnasara almaseehu ibnu Allahi thalika qawluhum biafwahihim yudahioona qawla allatheena kafaroo min qablu qatalahumu Allahu anna yufakoona

Wa Qālati Al-Yahūdu `Uzayrun Abnu Allāhi Wa Qālati An-Naşārá Al-Masīĥu Abnu Allāhi Dhālika Qawluhum Bi'afwāhihim Yuđāhi'ūna Qawla Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Min Qablu Qātalahumu Allāhu 'Anná Yu'ufakūna

The Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of Allah,’ and the Christians say, ‘Christ is the son of Allah.’ That is an opinion that they mouth, imitating the opinions of the faithless of former times. May Allah assail them, where do they stray

Ittakhathoo ahbarahum waruhbanahum arbaban min dooni Allahi waalmaseeha ibna maryama wama omiroo illa liyaAAbudoo ilahan wahidan la ilaha illa huwa subhanahu AAamma yushrikoona

Attakhadhū 'Aĥbārahum Wa Ruhbānahum 'Arbābāan Min Dūni Allāhi Wa Al-Masīĥa Abna Maryama Wa Mā 'Umirū 'Illā Liya`budū 'Ilahāan Wāĥidāan Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa Subĥānahu `Ammā Yushrikūna

They have taken their scribes and their monks as lords besides Allah, and also Christ, Mary’s son; though they were commanded to worship only the One God, there is no god except Him; He is far too immaculate to have any partners that they ascribe [to Him]

Yureedoona an yutfioo noora Allahi biafwahihim wayaba Allahu illa an yutimma noorahu walaw kariha alkafiroona

Yurīdūna 'An Yuţfi'ū Nūra Allāhi Bi'afwāhihim Wa Ya'bá Allāhu 'Illā 'An Yutimma Nūrahu Wa Law Kariha Al-Kāfirūna

They desire to put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah is intent on perfecting His light though the faithless should be averse

Huwa allathee arsala rasoolahu bialhuda wadeeni alhaqqi liyuthhirahu AAala alddeeni kullihi walaw kariha almushrikoona

Huwa Al-Ladhī 'Arsala Rasūlahu Bil-Hudá Wa Dīni Al-Ĥaqqi Liyužhirahu `Alá Ad-Dīni Kullihi Wa Law Kariha Al-Mushrikūna

It is He who has sent His Apostle with the guidance and the religion of truth that He may make it prevail over all religions, though the polytheists should be averse

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo inna katheeran mina alahbari waalrruhbani layakuloona amwala alnnasi bialbatili wayasuddoona AAan sabeeli Allahi waallatheena yaknizoona alththahaba waalfiddata wala yunfiqoonaha fee sabeeli Allahi fabashshirhum biAAathabin aleemin

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Inna Kathīrāan Mina Al-'Aĥbāri Wa Ar-Ruhbāni Laya'kulūna 'Amwāla An-Nāsi Bil-Bāţili Wa Yaşuddūna `An Sabīli Allāhi Wa Al-Ladhīna Yaknizūna Adh-Dhahaba Wa Al-Fiđđata Wa Lā Yunfiqūnahā Fī Sabīli Allāhi Fabashirhum Bi`adhābin 'Alīmin

O you who have faith! Indeed many of the scribes and monks wrongfully eat up the people’s wealth, and bar [them] from the way of Allah. Those who treasure up gold and silver, and do not spend it in the way of Allah, inform them of a painful punishment

Yawma yuhma AAalayha fee nari jahannama fatukwa biha jibahuhum wajunoobuhum wathuhooruhum hatha ma kanaztum lianfusikum fathooqoo ma kuntum taknizoona

Yawma Yuĥmá `Alayhā Fī Nāri Jahannama Fatukwá Bihā Jibāhuhum Wa Junūbuhum Wa Žuhūruhum Hādhā Mā Kanaztum Li'nfusikum Fadhūqū Mā Kuntum Taknizūna

on the day when these shall be heated in hellfire and therewith branded on their foreheads, their sides, and their backs [and told]: ‘This is what you treasured up for yourselves! So taste what you have treasured!’

Inna AAiddata alshshuhoori AAinda Allahi ithna AAashara shahran fee kitabi Allahi yawma khalaqa alssamawati waalarda minha arbaAAatun hurumun thalika alddeenu alqayyimu fala tathlimoo feehinna anfusakum waqatiloo almushrikeena kaffatan kama yuqatiloonakum kaffatan waiAAlamoo anna Allaha maAAa almuttaqeena

Inna `Iddata Ash-Shuhūri `Inda Allāhi Athnā `Ashara Shahrāan Fī Kitābi Allāhi Yawma Khalaqa As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđa Minhā 'Arba`atun Ĥurumun Dhālika Ad-Dīnu Al-Qayyimu Falā Tažlimū Fīhinna 'Anfusakum Wa Qātilū Al-Mushrikīna Kāffatan Kamā Yuqātilūnakum Kāffatan Wa A`lamū 'Anna Allāha Ma`a Al-Muttaqīna

Indeed the number of months with Allah is twelve months in Allah’s Book, the day when He created the heavens and the earth. Of these, four are sacred. That is the upright religion. So do not wrong yourselves during them. Fight all the polytheists, just as they fight you all, and know that Allah is with the Godwary

Innama alnnaseeo ziyadatun fee alkufri yudallu bihi allatheena kafaroo yuhilloonahu AAaman wayuharrimoonahu AAaman liyuwatioo AAiddata ma harrama Allahu fayuhilloo ma harrama Allahu zuyyina lahum sooo aAAmalihim waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alkafireena

Innamā An-Nasī'u Ziyādatun Fī Al-Kufri Yuđallu Bihi Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Yuĥillūnahu `Āmāan Wa Yuĥarrimūnahu `Āmāan Liyuwāţi'ū `Iddata Mā Ĥarrama Allāhu Fayuĥillū Mā Ĥarrama Allāhu Zuyyina Lahum Sū'u 'A`mālihim Wa Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Al-Kāfirīna

Indeed nasee is an increase in unfaith, whereby the faithless are led [further] astray. They allow it in one year and forbid it another year, so as to fit in with the number, which Allah has made inviolable, thus permitting what Allah has forbidden. Their evil deeds appear to them as decorous, and Allah does not guide the faithless lot

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ma lakum itha qeela lakumu infiroo fee sabeeli Allahi iththaqaltum ila alardi aradeetum bialhayati alddunya mina alakhirati fama mataAAu alhayati alddunya fee alakhirati illa qaleelun

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Mā Lakum 'Idhā Qīla Lakum Anfirū Fī Sabīli Allāhi Aththāqaltum 'Ilá Al-'Arđi 'Arađītum Bil-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Mina Al-'Ākhirati Famā Matā`u Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Fī Al-'Ākhirati 'Illā Qalīlun

O you who have faith! What is the matter with you that when you are told: ‘Go forth in the way of Allah,’ you sink heavily to the ground? Are you pleased with the life of this world instead of the Hereafter? But the wares of the life of this world compared with the Hereafter are but insignificant

Illa tanfiroo yuAAaththibkum AAathaban aleeman wayastabdil qawman ghayrakum wala tadurroohu shayan waAllahu AAala kulli shayin qadeerun

Illā Tanfirū Yu`adhibkum `Adhābāan 'Alīmāan Wa Yastabdil Qawmāan Ghayrakum Wa Lā Tađurrūhu Shay'āan Wa Allāhu `Alá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrun

If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment, and replace you with another people, and you will not hurt Him in the least, and Allah has power over all things

Illa tansuroohu faqad nasarahu Allahu ith akhrajahu allatheena kafaroo thaniya ithnayni ith huma fee alghari ith yaqoolu lisahibihi la tahzan inna Allaha maAAana faanzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAalayhi waayyadahu bijunoodin lam tarawha wajaAAala kalimata allatheena kafaroo alssufla wakalimatu Allahi hiya alAAulya waAllahu AAazeezun hakeemun

Illā Tanşurūhu Faqad Naşarahu Allāhu 'Idh 'Akhrajahu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Thāniya Athnayni 'Idh Humā Fī Al-Ghāri 'Idh Yaqūlu Lişāĥibihi Lā Taĥzan 'Inna Allāha Ma`anā Fa'anzala Allāhu Sakīnatahu `Alayhi Wa 'Ayyadahu Bijunūdin Lam Tarawhā Wa Ja`ala Kalimata Al-Ladhīna Kafarū As-Suflá Wa Kalimatu Allāhi Hiya Al-`Ulyā Wa Allāhu `Azīzun Ĥakīmun

If you do not help him, then Allah certainly helped him when the faithless expelled him, as one of two [refugees], when the two of them were in the cave, he said to his companion, ‘Do not grieve; Allah is indeed with us.’ Then Allah sent down His composure upon him, and strengthened him with hosts you did not see, and He made the word of the faithless the lowest; and the word of Allah is the highest; and Allah is all-mighty, all-wise

Infiroo khifafan wathiqalan wajahidoo biamwalikum waanfusikum fee sabeeli Allahi thalikum khayrun lakum in kuntum taAAlamoona

Anfirū Khifāfāan Wa Thiqālāan Wa Jāhidū Bi'amwālikum Wa 'Anfusikum Fī Sabīli Allāhi Dhālikum Khayrun Lakum 'In Kuntum Ta`lamūna

Go forth, whether [armed] lightly or heavily, and wage jihad with your possessions and persons in the way of Allah. That is better for you, should you know

Law kana AAaradan qareeban wasafaran qasidan laittabaAAooka walakin baAAudat AAalayhimu alshshuqqatu wasayahlifoona biAllahi lawi istataAAna lakharajna maAAakum yuhlikoona anfusahum waAllahu yaAAlamu innahum lakathiboona

Law Kāna `Arađāan Qarībāan Wa Safarāan Qāşidāan Lāttaba`ūka Wa Lakin Ba`udat `Alayhimu Ash-Shuqqatu Wa Sayaĥlifūna Billāhi Law Astaţa`nā Lakharajnā Ma`akum Yuhlikūna 'Anfusahum Wa Allāhu Ya`lamu 'Innahum Lakādhibūna

Were it an accessible gain or a short journey, they would have surely followed you; but the distance seemed too far to them. Yet they will swear by Allah: ‘If we could, we would have surely gone forth with you.’ They [merely] destroy themselves. Allah knows that they are indeed liars

AAafa Allahu AAanka lima athinta lahum hatta yatabayyana laka allatheena sadaqoo wataAAlama alkathibeena

Afā Allāhu `Anka Lima 'Adhinta Lahum Ĥattá Yatabayyana Laka Al-Ladhīna Şadaqū Wa Ta`lama Al-Kādhibīna

May Allah excuse you! Why did you grant them leave [to stay behind] before those who told the truth were evident to you and you had ascertained the liars

La yastathinuka allatheena yuminoona biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri an yujahidoo biamwalihim waanfusihim waAllahu AAaleemun bialmuttaqeena

Lā Yasta'dhinuka Al-Ladhīna Yu'uminūna Billāhi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri 'An Yujāhidū Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Bil-Muttaqīna

Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day do not ask you for leave [exempting them] from waging jihad with their possessions and their persons, and Allah knows best the Godwary

Innama yastathinuka allatheena la yuminoona biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri wairtabat quloobuhum fahum fee raybihim yataraddadoona

Innamā Yasta'dhinuka Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Billāhi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Artābat Qulūbuhum Fahum Fī Raybihim Yataraddadūna

Only those seek a leave [of exemption] from you who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, and whose hearts are in doubt, so they waver in their doubt

Walaw aradoo alkhurooja laaAAaddoo lahu AAuddatan walakin kariha Allahu inbiAAathahum fathabbatahum waqeela oqAAudoo maAAa alqaAAideena

Wa Law 'Arādū Al-Khurūja La'a`addū Lahu `Uddatan Wa Lakin Kariha Allāhu Anbi`āthahum Fathabbaţahum Wa Qīla Aq`udū Ma`a Al-Qā`idīna

Had they desired to go forth, they would have surely made some preparations for it; but Allah was averse to arouse them, so He held them back, and it was said [to them], ‘Be seated with those who sit back.’

Law kharajoo feekum ma zadookum illa khabalan walaawdaAAoo khilalakum yabghoonakumu alfitnata wafeekum sammaAAoona lahum waAllahu AAaleemun bialththalimeena

Law Kharajū Fīkum Mā Zādūkum 'Illā Khabālāan Wa La'awđa`ū Khilālakum Yabghūnakumu Al-Fitnata Wa Fīkum Sammā`ūna Lahum Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Biž-Žālimīna

Had they gone forth with you, they would have only added to your troubles, and they would have surely spread rumours in your midst, seeking to cause sedition among you. They have some spies among you, and Allah knows best the wrongdoers

Laqadi ibtaghawoo alfitnata min qablu waqallaboo laka alomoora hatta jaa alhaqqu wathahara amru Allahi wahum karihoona

Laqadi Abtaghaw Al-Fitnata Min Qablu Wa Qallabū Laka Al-'Umūra Ĥattá Jā'a Al-Ĥaqqu Wa Žahara 'Amru Allāhi Wa Hum Kārihūna

They certainly sought to cause sedition earlier, and upset the matters for you, until the truth came and Allah’s command prevailed, much as they were averse

Waminhum man yaqoolu ithan lee wala taftinnee ala fee alfitnati saqatoo wainna jahannama lamuheetatun bialkafireena

Wa Minhum Man Yaqūlu A'dhan Lī Wa Lā Taftinnī 'Alā Fī Al-Fitnati Saqaţū Wa 'Inna Jahannama Lamuĥīţatun Bil-Kāfirīna

Among them there are some who say, ‘Give me leave, and do not put me to temptation.’ Look! They have already fallen into temptation and indeed hell besieges the faithless

In tusibka hasanatun tasuhum wain tusibka museebatun yaqooloo qad akhathna amrana min qablu wayatawallaw wahum farihoona

In Tuşibka Ĥasanatun Tasu'uhum Wa 'In Tuşibka Muşībatun Yaqūlū Qad 'Akhadhnā 'Amranā Min Qablu Wa Yatawallaw Wa Hum Fariĥūna

If some good should befall you, it upsets them; but if an adversity befalls you, they say, ‘We had already taken our precautions in advance,’ and they go away boasting

Qul lan yuseebana illa ma kataba Allahu lana huwa mawlana waAAala Allahi falyatawakkali almuminoona

Qul Lan Yuşībanā 'Illā Mā Kataba Allāhu Lanā Huwa Mawlānā Wa `Alá Allāhi Falyatawakkali Al-Mu'uminūna

Say, ‘Nothing will befall us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is our master, and in Allah let all the faithful put their trust.’

Qul hal tarabbasoona bina illa ihda alhusnayayni wanahnu natarabbasu bikum an yuseebakumu Allahu biAAathabin min AAindihi aw biaydeena fatarabbasoo inna maAAakum mutarabbisoona

Qul Hal Tarabbaşūna Binā 'Illā 'Iĥdá Al-Ĥusnayayni Wa Naĥnu Natarabbaşu Bikum 'An Yuşībakumu Allāhu Bi`adhābin Min `Indihi 'Aw Bi'aydīnā Fatarabbaşū 'Innā Ma`akum Mutarabbişūna

Say, ‘Do you not await one of the two excellent things to happen to us? But we await that Allah shall visit on you a punishment, from Him, or by our hands. So wait! We too are waiting along with you.’

Qul anfiqoo tawAAan aw karhan lan yutaqabbala minkum innakum kuntum qawman fasiqeena

Qul 'Anfiqū Ţaw`āan 'Aw Karhāan Lan Yutaqabbala Minkum 'Innakum Kuntum Qawmāan Fāsiqīna

Say, ‘Spend willingly or unwillingly, it shall never be accepted from you; for you are indeed a transgressing lot.’

Wama manaAAahum an tuqbala minhum nafaqatuhum illa annahum kafaroo biAllahi wabirasoolihi wala yatoona alssalata illa wahum kusala wala yunfiqoona illa wahum karihoona

Wa Mā Mana`ahum 'An Tuqbala Minhum Nafaqātuhum 'Illā 'Annahum Kafarū Billāhi Wa Birasūlihi Wa Lā Ya'tūna Aş-Şalāata 'Illā Wa Hum Kusālá Wa Lā Yunfiqūna 'Illā Wa Hum Kārihūna

Nothing stops their charities from being accepted except that they have no faith in Allah and His Apostle and do not perform the prayer but lazily, and do not spend but reluctantly

Fala tuAAjibka amwaluhum wala awladuhum innama yureedu Allahu liyuAAaththibahum biha fee alhayati alddunya watazhaqa anfusuhum wahum kafiroona

Falā Tu`jibka 'Amwāluhum Wa Lā 'Awlāduhum 'Innamā Yurīdu Allāhu Liyu`adhibahum Bihā Fī Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunyā Wa Tazhaqa 'Anfusuhum Wa Hum Kāfirūna

So let not their wealth and children impress you: Allah only desires to punish them with these in the life of this world, and that their souls may depart while they are faithless

Wayahlifoona biAllahi innahum laminkum wama hum minkum walakinnahum qawmun yafraqoona

Wa Yaĥlifūna Billāhi 'Innahum Laminkum Wa Mā Hum Minkum Wa Lakinnahum Qawmun Yafraqūna

They swear by Allah that they belong to you, but they do not belong to you. Rather, they are a frightened lot

Law yajidoona maljaan aw magharatin aw muddakhalan lawallaw ilayhi wahum yajmahoona

Law Yajidūna Malja'an 'Aw Maghārātin 'Aw Muddakhalāan Lawallaw 'Ilayhi Wa Hum Yajmaĥūna

If they could find a refuge, or a hideout, or a hole [to creep into], they would turn to it in frantic haste

Waminhum man yalmizuka fee alssadaqati fain oAAtoo minha radoo wain lam yuAAtaw minha itha hum yaskhatoona

Wa Minhum Man Yalmizuka Fī Aş-Şadaqāti Fa'in 'U`ţū Minhā Rađū Wa 'In Lam Yu`ţaw Minhā 'Idhā Hum Yaskhaţūna

There are some of them who blame you regarding [the distribution of] the charities: if they are given from them, they are pleased, but if they are not given from them, behold, they are displeased

Walaw annahum radoo ma atahumu Allahu warasooluhu waqaloo hasbuna Allahu sayuteena Allahu min fadlihi warasooluhu inna ila Allahi raghiboona

Wa Law 'Annahum Rađū Mā 'Ātāhumu Allāhu Wa Rasūluhu Wa Qālū Ĥasbunā Allāhu Sayu'utīnā Allāhu Min Fađlihi Wa Rasūluhu 'Innā 'Ilá Allāhi Rāghibūna

[It would have been better] if they had been pleased with what Allah and His Apostle gave them, and had said, ‘Allah is sufficient for us; Allah and His Apostle will give to us out of His grace. Indeed to Allah do we eagerly turn.’

Innama alssadaqatu lilfuqarai waalmasakeeni waalAAamileena AAalayha waalmuallafati quloobuhum wafee alrriqabi waalgharimeena wafee sabeeli Allahi waibni alssabeeli fareedatan mina Allahi waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Innamā Aş-Şadaqātu Lilfuqarā'i Wa Al-Masākīni Wa Al-`Āmilīna `Alayhā Wa Al-Mu'uallafati Qulūbuhum Wa Fī Ar-Riqābi Wa Al-Ghārimīna Wa Fī Sabīli Allāhi Wa Aibni As-Sabīli Farīđatan Mina Allāhi Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun

The charities are only for the poor and the needy, and those employed to collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and for [the freedom of] the slaves and the debtors, and in the way of Allah, and for the traveller. [This is] an ordinance from Allah, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise

Waminhumu allatheena yuthoona alnnabiyya wayaqooloona huwa othunun qul othunu khayrin lakum yuminu biAllahi wayuminu lilmumineena warahmatun lillatheena amanoo minkum waallatheena yuthoona rasoola Allahi lahum AAathabun aleemun

Wa Minhumu Al-Ladhīna Yu'udhūna An-Nabīya Wa Yaqūlūna Huwa 'Udhunun Qul 'Udhunu Khayrin Lakum Yu'uminu Billāhi Wa Yu'uminu Lilmu'uminīna Wa Raĥmatun Lilladhīna 'Āmanū Minkum Wa Al-Ladhīna Yu'udhūna Rasūla Allāhi Lahum `Adhābun 'Alīmun

Among them are those who torment the Prophet, and say, ‘He is an ear.’ Say, ‘An ear that is good for you. He has faith in Allah and trusts the faithful, and is a mercy for those of you who have faith.’ As for those who torment the Apostle of Allah, there is a painful punishment for them

Yahlifoona biAllahi lakum liyurdookum waAllahu warasooluhu ahaqqu an yurdoohu in kanoo mumineena

Yaĥlifūna Billāhi Lakum Liyurđūkum Wa Allāhu Wa Rasūluhu 'Aĥaqqu 'An Yurđūhu 'In Kānū Mu'uminīna

They swear to you by Allah, to please you; but Allah and His Apostle are worthier that they should please Him, should they be faithful

Alam yaAAlamoo annahu man yuhadidi Allaha warasoolahu faanna lahu nara jahannama khalidan feeha thalika alkhizyu alAAatheemu

Alam Ya`lamū 'Annahu Man Yuĥādidi Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Fa'anna Lahu Nāra Jahannama Khālidāan Fīhā Dhālika Al-Khizyu Al-`Ažīmu

Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Apostle, there awaits him the Fire of hell, to remain in it [forever]? That is the great disgrace

Yahtharu almunafiqoona an tunazzala AAalayhim sooratun tunabbiohum bima fee quloobihim quli istahzioo inna Allaha mukhrijun ma tahtharoona

Yaĥdharu Al-Munāfiqūna 'An Tunazzala `Alayhim Sūratun Tunabbi'uhum Bimā Fī Qulūbihim Quli Astahzi'ū 'Inna Allāha Mukhrijun Mā Taĥdharūna

The hypocrites are apprehensive lest a surah should be sent down against them, informing them about what is in their hearts. Say, ‘Go on deriding. Allah will indeed bring out what you are apprehensive of.’

Walain saaltahum layaqoolunna innama kunna nakhoodu wanalAAabu qul abiAllahi waayatihi warasoolihi kuntum tastahzioona

Wa La'in Sa'altahum Layaqūlunna 'Innamā Kunnā Nakhūđu Wa Nal`abu Qul 'Abiālllahi Wa 'Āyātihi Wa Rasūlihi Kuntum Tastahzi'ūna

If you question them [regarding their conduct], they will surely say, ‘We were just gossiping and amusing ourselves.’ Say, ‘Were you deriding Allah, His signs, and His apostles

La taAAtathiroo qad kafartum baAAda eemanikum in naAAfu AAan taifatin minkum nuAAaththib taifatan biannahum kanoo mujrimeena

Lā Ta`tadhirū Qad Kafartum Ba`da 'Īmānikum 'In Na`fu `An Ţā'ifatin Minkum Nu`adhib Ţā'ifatan Bi'annahum Kānū Mujrimīna

Do not make excuses. You have disbelieved after your faith.’ If We forgive a group among you, We will punish another group, for they have been guilty

Almunafiqoona waalmunafiqatu baAAduhum min baAAdin yamuroona bialmunkari wayanhawna AAani almaAAroofi wayaqbidoona aydiyahum nasoo Allaha fanasiyahum inna almunafiqeena humu alfasiqoona

Al-Munāfiqūna Wa Al-Munāfiqātu Ba`đuhum Min Ba`đin Ya'murūna Bil-Munkari Wa Yanhawna `Ani Al-Ma`rūfi Wa Yaqbiđūna 'Aydiyahum Nasū Allāha Fanasiyahum 'Inna Al-Munāfiqīna Humu Al-Fāsiqūna

The hypocrites, men and women, are all alike: they bid what is wrong and forbid what is right; and are tight-fisted. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them. The hypocrites are indeed the transgressors

WaAAada Allahu almunafiqeena waalmunafiqati waalkuffara nara jahannama khalideena feeha hiya hasbuhum walaAAanahumu Allahu walahum AAathabun muqeemun

Wa`ada Allāhu Al-Munāfiqīna Wa Al-Munāfiqāti Wa Al-Kuffāra Nāra Jahannama Khālidīna Fīhā Hiya Ĥasbuhum Wa La`anahumu Allāhu Wa Lahum `Adhābun Muqīmun

Allah has promised the hypocrites, men and women, and the faithless, the Fire of hell, to remain in it [forever]. That suffices them. Allah has cursed them, and there is a lasting punishment for them

Kaallatheena min qablikum kanoo ashadda minkum quwwatan waakthara amwalan waawladan faistamtaAAoo bikhalaqihim faistamtaAAtum bikhalaqikum kama istamtaAAa allatheena min qablikum bikhalaqihim wakhudtum kaallathee khadoo olaika habitat aAAmaluhum fee alddunya waalakhirati waolaika humu alkhasiroona

Kālladhīna Min Qablikum Kānū 'Ashadda Minkum Qūwatan Wa 'Akthara 'Amwālāan Wa 'Awlādāan Fāstamta`ū Bikhalāqihim Fāstamta`tum Bikhalāqikum Kamā Astamta`a Al-Ladhīna Min Qablikum Bikhalāqihim Wa Khuđtum Kālladhī Khāđū 'Ūlā'ika Ĥabiţat 'A`māluhum Fī Ad-Dunyā Wa Al-'Ākhirati Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Khāsirūna

[Hypocrites! Your case is] similar to those who were before you, who were more powerful than you and more abounding in wealth and children: they enjoyed their share [of worldly existence]; you too enjoy your share, just like those who were before you enjoyed their share, and you have gossiped [impiously] as they gossiped. They are the ones whose works have failed in this world and the Hereafter; and it is they who are the losers

Alam yatihim nabao allatheena min qablihim qawmi noohin waAAadin wathamooda waqawmi ibraheema waashabi madyana waalmutafikati atathum rusuluhum bialbayyinati fama kana Allahu liyathlimahum walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoona

Alam Ya'tihim Naba'u Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Qawmi Nūĥin Wa `Ādin Wa Thamūda Wa Qawmi 'Ibrāhīma Wa 'Aşĥābi Madyana Wa Al-Mu'utafikāti 'Atat/hum Rusuluhum Bil-Bayyināti Famā Kāna Allāhu Liyažlimahum Wa Lakin Kānū 'Anfusahum Yažlimūna

Has there not come to them the account of those who were before them—the people of Noah, ‘Ad, and Tham£d, and the people of Abraham, the inhabitants of Midian, and the towns that were overturned? Their apostles brought them manifest proofs. So it was not Allah who wronged them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves

Waalmuminoona waalmuminatu baAAduhum awliyao baAAdin yamuroona bialmaAAroofi wayanhawna AAani almunkari wayuqeemoona alssalata wayutoona alzzakata wayuteeAAoona Allaha warasoolahu olaika sayarhamuhumu Allahu inna Allaha AAazeezun hakeemun

Wa Al-Mu'uminūna Wa Al-Mu'uminātu Ba`đuhum 'Awliyā'u Ba`đin Ya'murūna Bil-Ma`rūfi Wa Yanhawna `Ani Al-Munkari Wa Yuqīmūna Aş-Şalāata Wa Yu'utūna Az-Zakāata Wa Yuţī`ūna Allāha Wa Rasūlahu 'Ūlā'ika Sayarĥamuhumu Allāhu 'Inna Allāha `Azīzun Ĥakīmun

But the faithful, men and women, are comrades of one another: they bid what is right and forbid what is wrong and maintain the prayer, give the zakat, and obey Allah and His Apostle. It is they to whom Allah will soon grant His mercy. Indeed Allah is all-mighty, all-wise

WaAAada Allahu almumineena waalmuminati jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu khalideena feeha wamasakina tayyibatan fee jannati AAadnin waridwanun mina Allahi akbaru thalika huwa alfawzu alAAatheemu

Wa`ada Allāhu Al-Mu'uminīna Wa Al-Mu'umināti Jannātin Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru Khālidīna Fīhā Wa Masākina Ţayyibatan Fī Jannāti `Adnin Wa Riđwānun Mina Allāhi 'Akbaru Dhālika Huwa Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu

Allah has promised the faithful, men and women, gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them [forever], and good dwellings in the Gardens of Eden. Yet Allah’s pleasure is greater [than all these]; that is the great success

Ya ayyuha alnnabiyyu jahidi alkuffara waalmunafiqeena waoghluth AAalayhim wamawahum jahannamu wabisa almaseeru

Yā 'Ayyuhā An-Nabīyu Jāhidi Al-Kuffāra Wa Al-Munāfiqīna Wa Aghluž `Alayhim Wa Ma'wāhum Jahannamu Wa Bi'sa Al-Maşīru

O Prophet! Wage jihad against the faithless and the hypocrites, and be severe with them. Their refuge shall be hell, and it is an evil destination

Yahlifoona biAllahi ma qaloo walaqad qaloo kalimata alkufri wakafaroo baAAda islamihim wahammoo bima lam yanaloo wama naqamoo illa an aghnahumu Allahu warasooluhu min fadlihi fain yatooboo yaku khayran lahum wain yatawallaw yuAAaththibhumu Allahu AAathaban aleeman fee alddunya waalakhirati wama lahum fee alardi min waliyyin wala naseerin

Yaĥlifūna Billāhi Mā Qālū Wa Laqad Qālū Kalimata Al-Kufri Wa Kafarū Ba`da 'Islāmihim Wa Hammū Bimā Lam Yanālū Wa Mā Naqamū 'Illā 'An 'Aghnāhumu Allāhu Wa Rasūluhu Min Fađlihi Fa'in Yatūbū Yaku Khayrāan Lahum Wa 'In Yatawallaw Yu`adhibhumu Allāhu `Adhābāan 'Alīmāan Fī Ad-Dunyā Wa Al-'Ākhirati Wa Mā Lahum Fī Al-'Arđi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Naşīrin

They swear by Allah that they did not say it. But they certainly did utter the word of unfaith and renounced faith after their Islam. They contemplated what they could not achieve, and they were vindictive only because Allah and His Apostle had enriched them out of His grace. Yet if they repent, it will be better for them; but if they turn away, Allah shall punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they shall not find on the earth any guardian or helper

Waminhum man AAahada Allaha lain atana min fadlihi lanassaddaqanna walanakoonanna mina alssaliheena

Wa Minhum Man `Āhada Allāha La'in 'Ātānā Min Fađlihi Lanaşşaddaqanna Wa Lanakūnanna Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna

Among them are those who made a pledge with Allah: ‘If He gives us out of His grace, we will surely give the zakat and we will surely be among the righteous.’

Falamma atahum min fadlihi bakhiloo bihi watawallaw wahum muAAridoona

Falammā 'Ātāhum Min Fađlihi Bakhilū Bihi Wa Tawallaw Wa Hum Mu`riđūna

But when He gave them out of His grace, they begrudged it and turned away, being disregardful

FaaAAqabahum nifaqan fee quloobihim ila yawmi yalqawnahu bima akhlafoo Allaha ma waAAadoohu wabima kanoo yakthiboona

Fa'a`qabahum Nifāqāan Fī Qulūbihim 'Ilá Yawmi Yalqawnahu Bimā 'Akhlafū Allāha Mā Wa`adūhu Wa Bimā Kānū Yakdhibūna

So He caused hypocrisy to ensue in their hearts until the day they will encounter Him, because of their going back on what they had promised Allah and because of the lies they used to tell

Alam yaAAlamoo anna Allaha yaAAlamu sirrahum wanajwahum waanna Allaha AAallamu alghuyoobi

Alam Ya`lamū 'Anna Allāha Ya`lamu Sirrahum Wa Najwāhum Wa 'Anna Allāha `Allāmu Al-Ghuyūbi

Do they not know that Allah knows their secret [thoughts] and [hears] their secret talks, and that Allah is knower of all that is Unseen

Allatheena yalmizoona almuttawwiAAeena mina almumineena fee alssadaqati waallatheena la yajidoona illa juhdahum fayaskharoona minhum sakhira Allahu minhum walahum AAathabun aleemun

Al-Ladhīna Yalmizūna Al-Muţţawwi`īna Mina Al-Mu'uminīna Fī Aş-Şadaqāti Wa Al-Ladhīna Lā Yajidūna 'Illā Juhdahum Fayaskharūna Minhum Sakhira Allāhu Minhum Wa Lahum `Adhābun 'Alīmun

Those who blame the voluntary donors from among the faithful concerning the charities—and as for those who do not find [anything] except [what] their means [permit], they ridicule them—Allah shall put them to ridicule, and there is a painful punishment for them

Istaghfir lahum aw la tastaghfir lahum in tastaghfir lahum sabAAeena marratan falan yaghfira Allahu lahum thalika biannahum kafaroo biAllahi warasoolihi waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alfasiqeena

Astaghfir Lahum 'Aw Lā Tastaghfir Lahum 'In Tastaghfir Lahum Sab`īna Marratan Falan Yaghfira Allāhu Lahum Dhālika Bi'annahum Kafarū Billāhi Wa Rasūlihi Wa Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Al-Fāsiqīna

Whether you plead forgiveness for them or do not plead forgiveness for them, even if you plead forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah shall never forgive them because they defied Allah and His Apostle; and Allah does not guide the transgressing lot

Fariha almukhallafoona bimaqAAadihim khilafa rasooli Allahi wakarihoo an yujahidoo biamwalihim waanfusihim fee sabeeli Allahi waqaloo la tanfiroo fee alharri qul naru jahannama ashaddu harran law kanoo yafqahoona

Fariĥa Al-Mukhallafūna Bimaq`adihim Khilāfa Rasūli Allāhi Wa Karihū 'An Yujāhidū Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim Fī Sabīli Allāhi Wa Qālū Lā Tanfirū Fī Al-Ĥarri Qul Nāru Jahannama 'Ashaddu Ĥarrāan Law Kānū Yafqahūna

Those who were left behind boasted for sitting back against [the command of] the Apostle of Allah, and were reluctant to wage jihad with their possessions and persons in the way of Allah, and they said, ‘Do not go forth in this heat.’ Say, The fire of hell is severer in heat, should they understand

Falyadhakoo qaleelan walyabkoo katheeran jazaan bima kanoo yaksiboona

Falyađĥakū Qalīlāan Wa Līabkū Kathīrāan Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Yaksibūna

So let them laugh a little; much will they weep as a requital for what they used to earn

Fain rajaAAaka Allahu ila taifatin minhum faistathanooka lilkhurooji faqul lan takhrujoo maAAiya abadan walan tuqatiloo maAAiya AAaduwwan innakum radeetum bialquAAoodi awwala marratin faoqAAudoo maAAa alkhalifeena

Fa'in Raja`aka Allāhu 'Ilá Ţā'ifatin Minhum Fāsta'dhanūka Lilkhurūji Faqul Lan Takhrujū Ma`iya 'Abadāan Wa Lan Tuqātilū Ma`iya `Adūwāan 'Innakum Rađītum Bil-Qu`ūdi 'Awwala Marratin Fāq`udū Ma`a Al-Khālifīna

If Allah brings you back [from the battlefront] to a group of them and they seek your permission to go forth, say, ‘You shall never go forth with me, and you shall not fight with me against any enemy. You were indeed pleased to sit back the first time, so sit back with those who stay behind.’

Wala tusalli AAala ahadin minhum mata abadan wala taqum AAala qabrihi innahum kafaroo biAllahi warasoolihi wamatoo wahum fasiqoona

Wa Lā Tuşalli `Alá 'Aĥadin Minhum Māta 'Abadāan Wa Lā Taqum `Alá Qabrihi 'Innahum Kafarū Billāhi Wa Rasūlihi Wa Mātū Wa Hum Fāsiqūna

And never pray over any of them when he dies, nor stand at his graveside. They indeed defied Allah and His Apostle and died as transgressors

Wala tuAAjibka amwaluhum waawladuhum innama yureedu Allahu an yuAAaththibahum biha fee alddunya watazhaqa anfusuhum wahum kafiroona

Wa Lā Tu`jibka 'Amwāluhum Wa 'Awlāduhum 'Innamā Yurīdu Allāhu 'An Yu`adhibahum Bihā Fī Ad-Dunyā Wa Tazhaqa 'Anfusuhum Wa Hum Kāfirūna

Let not their possessions or their children impress you. Allah only desires to punish them with these in this world, and that their souls may depart while they are faithless

Waitha onzilat sooratun an aminoo biAllahi wajahidoo maAAa rasoolihi istathanaka oloo alttawli minhum waqaloo tharna nakun maAAa alqaAAideena

Wa 'Idhā 'Unzilat Sūratun 'An 'Āminū Billāhi Wa Jāhidū Ma`a Rasūlihi Asta'dhanaka 'Ūlū Aţ-Ţawli Minhum Wa Qālū Dharnā Nakun Ma`a Al-Qā`idīna

When a surah is sent down [declaring]: ‘Have faith in Allah, and wage jihad along with His Apostle, the affluent among them ask you for leave, and say, ‘Let us remain with those who sit back.’

Radoo bian yakoonoo maAAa alkhawalifi watubiAAa AAala quloobihim fahum la yafqahoona

Rađū Bi'an Yakūnū Ma`a Al-Khawālifi Wa Ţubi`a `Alá Qulūbihim Fahum Lā Yafqahūna

They are pleased to be with those who stay back, and their hearts have been sealed. So they do not understand

Lakini alrrasoolu waallatheena amanoo maAAahu jahadoo biamwalihim waanfusihim waolaika lahumu alkhayratu waolaika humu almuflihoona

Lakini Ar-Rasūlu Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Ma`ahu Jāhadū Bi'amwālihim Wa 'Anfusihim Wa 'Ūlā'ika Lahumu Al-Khayrātu Wa 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mufliĥūna

But the Apostle and the faithful who are with him wage jihad with their possessions and persons, and to such belong all the blessings, and it is they who are the felicitous

aAAadda Allahu lahum jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu khalideena feeha thalika alfawzu alAAatheemu

A`adda Allāhu Lahum Jannātin Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru Khālidīna Fīhā Dhālika Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu

Allah has prepared for them gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them [forever]. That is the great success

Wajaa almuAAaththiroona mina alaAArabi liyuthana lahum waqaAAada allatheena kathaboo Allaha warasoolahu sayuseebu allatheena kafaroo minhum AAathabun aleemun

Wa Jā'a Al-Mu`adhirūna Mina Al-'A`rābi Liyu'udhana Lahum Wa Qa`ada Al-Ladhīna Kadhabū Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Sayuşību Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Minhum `Adhābun 'Alīmun

Some of the Bedouins who sought to be excused came, so that they may be granted leave [to stay back]; while those who lied to Allah and His Apostle sat back. Soon there shall visit the faithless among them a painful punishment

Laysa AAala aldduAAafai wala AAala almarda wala AAala allatheena la yajidoona ma yunfiqoona harajun itha nasahoo lillahi warasoolihi ma AAala almuhsineena min sabeelin waAllahu ghafoorun raheemun

Laysa `Alá Ađ-Đu`afā'i Wa Lā `Alá Al-Marđá Wa Lā `Alá Al-Ladhīna Lā Yajidūna Mā Yunfiqūna Ĥarajun 'Idhā Naşaĥū Lillāhi Wa Rasūlihi Mā `Alá Al-Muĥsinīna Min Sabīlin Wa Allāhu Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

There is no blame on the weak, nor on the sick, nor on those who do not find anything to spend, so long as they are sincere to Allah and His Apostle. There is no [cause for] blaming the virtuous, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful

Wala AAala allatheena itha ma atawka litahmilahum qulta la ajidu ma ahmilukum AAalayhi tawallaw waaAAyunuhum tafeedu mina alddamAAi hazanan alla yajidoo ma yunfiqoona

Wa Lā `Alá Al-Ladhīna 'Idhā Mā 'Atawka Litaĥmilahum Qulta Lā 'Ajidu Mā 'Aĥmilukum `Alayhi Tawallaw Wa 'A`yunuhum Tafīđu Mina Ad-Dam`i Ĥazanāan 'Allā Yajidū Mā Yunfiqūna

Nor [is there any blame] on those to whom, when they came to you to provide them with a mount, you said, ‘I do not find any mount for you,’ and they turned back, their eyes flowing with tears, grieved because they did not find any means to spend

Innama alssabeelu AAala allatheena yastathinoonaka wahum aghniyao radoo bian yakoonoo maAAa alkhawalifi watabaAAa Allahu AAala quloobihim fahum la yaAAlamoona

Innamā As-Sabīlu `Alá Al-Ladhīna Yasta'dhinūnaka Wa Hum 'Aghniyā'u Rađū Bi'an Yakūnū Ma`a Al-Khawālifi Wa Ţaba`a Allāhu `Alá Qulūbihim Fahum Lā Ya`lamūna

The blame lies only on those who ask leave of you [to stay behind] though they are well-off. They are pleased to be with those who stay back; Allah has set a seal on their hearts, so they do not know [the outcome of their conduct]

YaAAtathiroona ilaykum itha rajaAAtum ilayhim qul la taAAtathiroo lan numina lakum qad nabbaana Allahu min akhbarikum wasayara Allahu AAamalakum warasooluhu thumma turaddoona ila AAalimi alghaybi waalshshahadati fayunabbiokum bima kuntum taAAmaloona

Ya`tadhirūna 'Ilaykum 'Idhā Raja`tum 'Ilayhim Qul Lā Ta`tadhirū Lan Nu'umina Lakum Qad Nabba'anā Allāhu Min 'Akhbārikum Wa Sayará Allāhu `Amalakum Wa Rasūluhu Thumma Turaddūna 'Ilá `Ālimi Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Fayunabbi'ukum Bimā Kuntum Ta`malūna

They will offer you excuses when you return to them. Say, ‘Do not make excuses; we will never believe you. Allah has informed us of your state of affairs. Allah and His Apostle will observe your conduct, then you will be returned to the Knower of the sensible and the Unseen, and He will inform you concerning what you used to do.’

Sayahlifoona biAllahi lakum itha inqalabtum ilayhim lituAAridoo AAanhum faaAAridoo AAanhum innahum rijsun wamawahum jahannamu jazaan bima kanoo yaksiboona

Sayaĥlifūna Billāhi Lakum 'Idhā Anqalabtum 'Ilayhim Litu`riđū `Anhum Fa'a`riđū `Anhum 'Innahum Rijsun Wa Ma'wāhum Jahannamu Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Yaksibūna

They will swear to you by Allah when you return to them, that you may leave them alone. So leave them alone. They are indeed filth, and their refuge shall be hell, a requital for what they used to earn

Yahlifoona lakum litardaw AAanhum fain tardaw AAanhum fainna Allaha la yarda AAani alqawmi alfasiqeena

Yaĥlifūna Lakum Litarđaw `Anhum Fa'in Tarđaw `Anhum Fa'inna Allāha Lā Yarđá `Ani Al-Qawmi Al-Fāsiqīna

They swear to you that you may be reconciled to them. But even if you are reconciled to them, Allah shall not be reconciled to the transgressing lot

AlaAArabu ashaddu kufran wanifaqan waajdaru alla yaAAlamoo hudooda ma anzala Allahu AAala rasoolihi waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Al-'A`rābu 'Ashaddu Kufrāan Wa Nifāqāan Wa 'Ajdaru 'Allā Ya`lamū Ĥudūda Mā 'Anzala Allāhu `Alá Rasūlihi Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun

The Bedouins are more obdurate in unfaith and hypocrisy, and more apt to be ignorant of the precepts that Allah has sent down to His Apostle, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise

Wamina alaAArabi man yattakhithu ma yunfiqu maghraman wayatarabbasu bikumu alddawaira AAalayhim dairatu alssawi waAllahu sameeAAun AAaleemun

Wa Mina Al-'A`rābi Man Yattakhidhu Mā Yunfiqu Maghramāan Wa Yatarabbaşu Bikumu Ad-Dawā'ira `Alayhim Dā'iratu As-Saw'i Wa Allāhu Samī`un `Alīmun

Among the Bedouins are those who regard what they spend as a loss, and they watch for a reversal of your fortunes. Theirs shall be an adverse turn of fortune, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing

Wamina alaAArabi man yuminu biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri wayattakhithu ma yunfiqu qurubatin AAinda Allahi wasalawati alrrasooli ala innaha qurbatun lahum sayudkhiluhumu Allahu fee rahmatihi inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

Wa Mina Al-'A`rābi Man Yu'uminu Billāhi Wa Al-Yawmi Al-'Ākhiri Wa Yattakhidhu Mā Yunfiqu Qurubātin `Inda Allāhi Wa Şalawāti Ar-Rasūli 'Alā 'Innahā Qurbatun Lahum Sayudkhiluhumu Allāhu Fī Raĥmatihi 'Inna Allāha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

Yet among the Bedouins are [also] those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and regard what they spend as [a means of attaining] nearness to Allah and the blessings of the Apostle. Now, it shall indeed bring them nearness, and Allah will admit them into His mercy. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful

Waalssabiqoona alawwaloona mina almuhajireena waalansari waallatheena ittabaAAoohum biihsanin radiya Allahu AAanhum waradoo AAanhu waaAAadda lahum jannatin tajree tahtaha alanharu khalideena feeha abadan thalika alfawzu alAAatheemu

Wa As-Sābiqūna Al-'Awwalūna Mina Al-Muhājirīna Wa Al-'Anşāri Wa Al-Ladhīna Attaba`ūhum Bi'iĥsānin Rađiya Allāhu `Anhum Wa Rađū `Anhu Wa 'A`adda Lahum Jannātin Tajrī Taĥtahā Al-'Anhāru Khālidīna Fīhā 'Abadāan Dhālika Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu

The early vanguard of the Emigrants and the Helpers and those who followed them in virtue—Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever. That is the great success

Wamimman hawlakum mina alaAArabi munafiqoona wamin ahli almadeenati maradoo AAala alnnifaqi la taAAlamuhum nahnu naAAlamuhum sanuAAaththibuhum marratayni thumma yuraddoona ila AAathabin AAatheemin

Wa Mimman Ĥawlakum Mina Al-'A`rābi Munāfiqūna Wa Min 'Ahli Al-Madīnati Maradū `Alá An-Nifāqi Lā Ta`lamuhum Naĥnu Na`lamuhum Sanu`adhibuhum Marratayni Thumma Yuraddūna 'Ilá `Adhābin `Ažīmin

There are hypocrites among the Bedouins around you and among the townspeople of Madinah, steeped in hypocrisy. You do not know them; We know them, and We will punish them twice, then they shall be consigned to a great punishment

Waakharoona iAAtarafoo bithunoobihim khalatoo AAamalan salihan waakhara sayyian AAasa Allahu an yatooba AAalayhim inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun

Wa 'Ākharūna A`tarafū Bidhunūbihim Khalaţū `Amalāan Şāliĥāan Wa 'Ākhara Sayyi'āan `Asá Allāhu 'An Yatūba `Alayhim 'Inna Allāha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun

[There are] others who have confessed to their sins, having mixed up righteous conduct with other that was evil. Maybe Allah will accept their repentance. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful

Khuth min amwalihim sadaqatan tutahhiruhum watuzakkeehim biha wasalli AAalayhim inna salataka sakanun lahum waAllahu sameeAAun AAaleemun

Khudh Min 'Amwālihim Şadaqatan Tuţahhiruhum Wa Tuzakkīhim Bihā Wa Şalli `Alayhim 'Inna Şalātaka Sakanun Lahum Wa Allāhu Samī`un `Alīmun

Take charity from their possessions to cleanse them and purify them thereby, and bless them. Indeed your blessing is a comfort to them, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing

Alam yaAAlamoo anna Allaha huwa yaqbalu alttawbata AAan AAibadihi wayakhuthu alssadaqati waanna Allaha huwa alttawwabu alrraheemu

Alam Ya`lamū 'Anna Allāha Huwa Yaqbalu At-Tawbata `An `Ibādihi Wa Ya'khudhu Aş-Şadaqāti Wa 'Anna Allāha Huwa At-Tawwābu Ar-Raĥīmu

Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts the repentance of His servants and receives the charities, and that it is Allah who is the All-clement, the All-merciful

Waquli iAAmaloo fasayara Allahu AAamalakum warasooluhu waalmuminoona wasaturaddoona ila AAalimi alghaybi waalshshahadati fayunabbiokum bima kuntum taAAmaloona

Wa Quli A`malū Fasayará Allāhu `Amalakum Wa Rasūluhu Wa Al-Mu'uminūna Wa Saturaddūna 'Ilá `Ālimi Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Fayunabbi'ukum Bimā Kuntum Ta`malūna

And say, ‘Go on working: Allah will see your conduct, and His Apostle and the faithful [as well], and you will be returned to the Knower of the sensible and the Unseen, and He will inform you concerning what you used to do

Waakharoona murjawna liamri Allahi imma yuAAaththibuhum waimma yatoobu AAalayhim waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Wa 'Ākharūna Murjawna Li'amri Allāhi 'Immā Yu`adhibuhum Wa 'Immā Yatūbu `Alayhim Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun

[There are] others waiting Allah’s edict: either He shall punish them, or turn to them clemently, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise

Waallatheena ittakhathoo masjidan diraran wakufran watafreeqan bayna almumineena wairsadan liman haraba Allaha warasoolahu min qablu walayahlifunna in aradna illa alhusna waAllahu yashhadu innahum lakathiboona

Wa Al-Ladhīna Attakhadhū Masjidāan Đirārāan Wa Kufrāan Wa Tafrīqāan Bayna Al-Mu'uminīna Wa 'Irşādāan Liman Ĥāraba Allāha Wa Rasūlahu Min Qablu Wa Layaĥlifunna 'In 'Aradnā 'Illā Al-Ĥusná Wa Allāhu Yash/hadu 'Innahum Lakādhibūna

As for those who took to a mosque for sabotage and for defiance, and to cause division among the faithful, and for the purpose of ambush [used] by those who have fought Allah and His Apostle before—they will surely swear, ‘We desired nothing but good,’ and Allah bears witness that they are indeed liars

La taqum feehi abadan lamasjidun ossisa AAala alttaqwa min awwali yawmin ahaqqu an taqooma feehi feehi rijalun yuhibboona an yatatahharoo waAllahu yuhibbu almuttahhireena

Lā Taqum Fīhi 'Abadāan Lamasjidun 'Ussisa `Alá At-Taqwá Min 'Awwali Yawmin 'Aĥaqqu 'An Taqūma Fīhi Fīhi Rijālun Yuĥibbūna 'An Yataţahharū Wa Allāhu Yuĥibbu Al-Muţţahhirīna

Do not stand in it ever! A mosque founded on Godwariness from the [very] first day is worthier that you stand in it [for prayer]. Therein are men who love to keep pure, and Allah loves those who keep pure

Afaman assasa bunyanahu AAala taqwa mina Allahi waridwanin khayrun am man assasa bunyanahu AAala shafa jurufin harin fainhara bihi fee nari jahannama waAllahu la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena

Afaman 'Assasa Bunyānahu `Alá Taqwá Mina Allāhi Wa Riđwānin Khayrun 'Am Man 'Assasa Bunyānahu `Alá Shafā Jurufin Hārin Fānhāra Bihi Fī Nāri Jahannama Wa Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Až-Žālimīna

Is he who founds his building on Godwariness and [the pursuit of Allah’s] pleasure better-off or he who founds his building on the brink of a collapsing bank which collapses with him into the fire of hell? Allah does not guide the wrongdoing lot

La yazalu bunyanuhumu allathee banaw reebatan fee quloobihim illa an taqattaAAa quloobuhum waAllahu AAaleemun hakeemun

Lā Yazālu Bunyānuhumu Al-Ladhī Banaw Rībatan Fī Qulūbihim 'Illā 'An Taqaţţa`a Qulūbuhum Wa Allāhu `Alīmun Ĥakīmun

The building they have built will never cease to be [a source of] disquiet in their hearts until their hearts are cut into pieces, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise

Inna Allaha ishtara mina almumineena anfusahum waamwalahum bianna lahumu aljannata yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi fayaqtuloona wayuqtaloona waAAdan AAalayhi haqqan fee alttawrati waalinjeeli waalqurani waman awfa biAAahdihi mina Allahi faistabshiroo bibayAAikumu allathee bayaAAtum bihi wathalika huwa alfawzu alAAatheemu

Inna Allāha Ashtará Mina Al-Mu'uminīna 'Anfusahum Wa 'Amwālahum Bi'anna Lahumu Al-Jannata Yuqātilūna Fī Sabīli Allāhi Fayaqtulūna Wa Yuqtalūna Wa`dāan `Alayhi Ĥaqqāan Fī At-Tawrāati Wa Al-'Injīli Wa Al-Qur'āni Wa Man 'Awfá Bi`ahdihi Mina Allāhi Fāstabshirū Bibay`ikumu Al-Ladhī Bāya`tum Bihi Wa Dhalika Huwa Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu

Indeed Allah has bought from the faithful their souls and their possessions for paradise to be theirs: they fight in the way of Allah, kill, and are killed. A promise binding upon Him in the Torah and the Evangel and the Quran. And who is truer to his promise than Allah? So rejoice in the bargain you have made with Him, and that is the great success

Alttaiboona alAAabidoona alhamidoona alssaihoona alrrakiAAoona alssajidoona alamiroona bialmaAAroofi waalnnahoona AAani almunkari waalhafithoona lihudoodi Allahi wabashshiri almumineena

At-Tā'ibūna Al-`Ābidūna Al-Ĥāmidūna As-Sā'iĥūna Ar-Rāki`ūna As-Sājidūna Al-'Āmirūna Bil-Ma`rūfi Wa An-Nāhūna `Ani Al-Munkari Wa Al-Ĥāfižūna Liĥudūdi Allāhi Wa Bashiri Al-Mu'uminīna

[The faithful are] penitent, devout, celebrators of Allah’s praise, wayfarers, who bow [and] prostrate [in prayer], bid what is right and forbid what is wrong, and keep Allah’s bounds—and give good news to the faithful

Ma kana lilnnabiyyi waallatheena amanoo an yastaghfiroo lilmushrikeena walaw kanoo olee qurba min baAAdi ma tabayyana lahum annahum ashabu aljaheemi

Mā Kāna Lilnnabīyi Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'An Yastaghfirū Lilmushrikīna Wa Law Kānū 'Ūlī Qurbá Min Ba`di Mā Tabayyana Lahum 'Annahum 'Aşĥābu Al-Jaĥīmi

The Prophet and the faithful may not plead for the forgiveness of the polytheists, even if they should be [their] relatives, after it has become clear to them that they will be the inmates of hell

Wama kana istighfaru ibraheema liabeehi illa AAan mawAAidatin waAAadaha iyyahu falamma tabayyana lahu annahu AAaduwwun lillahi tabarraa minhu inna ibraheema laawwahun haleemun

Wa Mā Kāna Astighfāru 'Ibrāhīma Li'abīhi 'Illā `An Maw`idatin Wa`adahā 'Īyāhu Falammā Tabayyana Lahu 'Annahu `Adūwun Lillāhi Tabarra'a Minhu 'Inna 'Ibrāhīma La'awwāhun Ĥalīmun

Abraham’s pleading forgiveness for his father was only to fulfill a promise he had made him. So when it became manifest to him that he was an enemy of God, he repudiated him. Indeed Abraham was most plaintive and forbearing

Wama kana Allahu liyudilla qawman baAAda ith hadahum hatta yubayyina lahum ma yattaqoona inna Allaha bikulli shayin AAaleemun

Wa Mā Kāna Allāhu Liyuđilla Qawmāan Ba`da 'Idh Hadāhum Ĥattá Yubayyina Lahum Mā Yattaqūna 'Inna Allāha Bikulli Shay'in `Alīmun

Allah does not lead any people astray after He has guided them until He has made clear to them what they should beware of. Indeed Allah has knowledge of all things

Inna Allaha lahu mulku alssamawati waalardi yuhyee wayumeetu wama lakum min dooni Allahi min waliyyin wala naseerin

Inna Allāha Lahu Mulku As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Yuĥyī Wa Yumītu Wa Mā Lakum Min Dūni Allāhi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Naşīrin

Indeed to Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and brings death. And besides Allah you do not have any guardian or helper

Laqad taba Allahu AAala alnnabiyyi waalmuhajireena waalansari allatheena ittabaAAoohu fee saAAati alAAusrati min baAAdi ma kada yazeeghu quloobu fareeqin minhum thumma taba AAalayhim innahu bihim raoofun raheemun

Laqad Tāba Allāhu `Alá An-Nabīyi Wa Al-Muhājirīna Wa Al-'Anşāri Al-Ladhīna Attaba`ūhu Fī Sā`ati Al-`Usrati Min Ba`di Mā Kāda Yazīghu Qulūbu Farīqin Minhum Thumma Tāba `Alayhim 'Innahu Bihim Ra'ūfun Raĥīmun

Certainly Allah turned clemently to the Prophet and the Emigrants and the Helpers, who followed him in the hour of difficulty, after the hearts of a part of them were about to swerve. Then He turned clemently to them—indeed, He is most kind and merciful to them

WaAAala alththalathati allatheena khullifoo hatta itha daqat AAalayhimu alardu bima rahubat wadaqat AAalayhim anfusuhum wathannoo an la maljaa mina Allahi illa ilayhi thumma taba AAalayhim liyatooboo inna Allaha huwa alttawwabu alrraheemu

Wa `Alá Ath-Thalāthati Al-Ladhīna Khullifū Ĥattá 'Idhā Đāqat `Alayhimu Al-'Arđu Bimā Raĥubat Wa Đāqat `Alayhim 'Anfusuhum Wa Žannū 'An Lā Malja'a Mina Allāhi 'Illā 'Ilayhi Thumma Tāba `Alayhim Liyatūbū 'Inna Allāha Huwa At-Tawwābu Ar-Raĥīmu

—and to the three who were left behind. When the earth became narrow for them with [all] its expanse, and their own souls weighed heavily on them, and they knew that there was no refuge from Allah except in Him, then He turned clemently toward them so that they might be penitent. Indeed Allah is the All-clement, the All-merciful

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ittaqoo Allaha wakoonoo maAAa alssadiqeena

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Attaqū Allāha Wa Kūnū Ma`a Aş-Şādiqīna

O you who have faith! Be wary of Allah, and be with the Truthful

Ma kana liahli almadeenati waman hawlahum mina alaAArabi an yatakhallafoo AAan rasooli Allahi wala yarghaboo bianfusihim AAan nafsihi thalika biannahum la yuseebuhum thamaon wala nasabun wala makhmasatun fee sabeeli Allahi wala yataoona mawtian yagheethu alkuffara wala yanaloona min AAaduwwin naylan illa kutiba lahum bihi AAamalun salihun inna Allaha la yudeeAAu ajra almuhsineena

Mā Kāna Li'hli Al-Madīnati Wa Man Ĥawlahum Mina Al-'A`rābi 'An Yatakhallafū `An Rasūli Allāhi Wa Lā Yarghabū Bi'anfusihim `An Nafsihi Dhālika Bi'annahum Lā Yuşībuhum Žama'un Wa Lā Naşabun Wa Lā Makhmaşatun Fī Sabīli Allāhi Wa Lā Yaţa'ūna Mawţi'āan Yaghīžu Al-Kuffāra Wa Lā Yanālūna Min `Adūwin Naylāan 'Illā Kutiba Lahum Bihi `Amalun Şāliĥun 'Inna Allāha Lā Yuđī`u 'Ajra Al-Muĥsinīna

It is not fitting for the people of Madinah and the Bedouins around them to hang back behind the Apostle of Allah and prefer their own lives to his life. That is because they neither experience any thirst, nor fatigue, nor hunger, in the way of Allah, nor do they tread any ground enraging the faithless, nor do they gain any ground against an enemy but a righteous deed is written for them on its account. Indeed Allah does not waste the reward of the virtuous

Wala yunfiqoona nafaqatan sagheeratan wala kabeeratan wala yaqtaAAoona wadiyan illa kutiba lahum liyajziyahumu Allahu ahsana ma kanoo yaAAmaloona

Wa Lā Yunfiqūna Nafaqatan Şaghīratan Wa Lā Kabīratan Wa Lā Yaqţa`ūna Wa Adīāan 'Illā Kutiba Lahum Liyajziyahumu Allāhu 'Aĥsana Mā Kānū Ya`malūna

And neither do they incur any expense, big or small, nor do they cross any valley, but it is written to their account, so that Allah may reward them by the best of what they used to do

Wama kana almuminoona liyanfiroo kaffatan falawla nafara min kulli firqatin minhum taifatun liyatafaqqahoo fee alddeeni waliyunthiroo qawmahum itha rajaAAoo ilayhim laAAallahum yahtharoona

Wa Mā Kāna Al-Mu'uminūna Liyanfirū Kāffatan Falawlā Nafara Min Kulli Firqatin Minhum Ţā'ifatun Liyatafaqqahū Fī Ad-Dīni Wa Liyundhirū Qawmahum 'Idhā Raja`ū 'Ilayhim La`allahum Yaĥdharūna

Yet it is not for the faithful to go forth en masse. But why should not there a group from each of their sections go forth to become learned in religion, and to warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo qatiloo allatheena yaloonakum mina alkuffari walyajidoo feekum ghilthatan waiAAlamoo anna Allaha maAAa almuttaqeena

Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Qātilū Al-Ladhīna Yalūnakum Mina Al-Kuffāri Wa Līajidū Fīkum Ghilžatan Wa A`lamū 'Anna Allāha Ma`a Al-Muttaqīna

O you who have faith! Fight the faithless who are in your vicinity, and let them find severity in you, and know that Allah is with the Godwary

Waitha ma onzilat sooratun faminhum man yaqoolu ayyukum zadathu hathihi eemanan faamma allatheena amanoo fazadathum eemanan wahum yastabshiroona

Wa 'Idhā Mā 'Unzilat Sūratun Faminhum Man Yaqūlu 'Ayyukum Zādat/hu Hadhihi 'Īmānāan Fa'ammā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Fazādat/hum 'Īmānāan Wa Hum Yastabshirūna

Whenever a surah is sent down, there are some of them who say, ‘Which of you did it increase in faith?’ As for those who have faith, it increases them in faith, and they rejoice

Waamma allatheena fee quloobihim maradun fazadathum rijsan ila rijsihim wamatoo wahum kafiroona

Wa 'Ammā Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Fazādat/hum Rijsāan 'Ilá Rijsihim Wa Mātū Wa Hum Kāfirūna

But as for those in whose heart is a sickness, it only adds defilement to their defilement, and they die while they are faithless

Awala yarawna annahum yuftanoona fee kulli AAamin marratan aw marratayni thumma la yatooboona wala hum yaththakkaroona

Awalā Yarawna 'Annahum Yuftanūna Fī Kulli `Āmin Marratan 'Aw Marratayni Thumma Lā Yatūbūna Wa Lā Hum Yadhakkarūna

Do they not see that they are tried once or twice every year? Yet they neither repent, nor do they take admonition

Waitha ma onzilat sooratun nathara baAAduhum ila baAAdin hal yarakum min ahadin thumma insarafoo sarafa Allahu quloobahum biannahum qawmun la yafqahoona

Wa 'Idhā Mā 'Unzilat Sūratun Nažara Ba`đuhum 'Ilá Ba`đin Hal Yarākum Min 'Aĥadin Thumma Anşarafū Şarafa Allāhu Qulūbahum Bi'annahum Qawmun Lā Yafqahūna

Whenever a surah is sent down they look at one another: ‘Is anybody observing you?’ Then they slip away. Allah has turned aside their hearts, for they are a people who do not understand

Laqad jaakum rasoolun min anfusikum AAazeezun AAalayhi ma AAanittum hareesun AAalaykum bialmumineena raoofun raheemun

Laqad Jā'akum Rasūlun Min 'Anfusikum `Azīzun `Alayhi Mā `Anittum Ĥarīşun `Alaykum Bil-Mu'uminīna Ra'ūfun Raĥīmun

There has certainly come to you an apostle from among yourselves. Grievous to him is your distress; he has deep concern for you, and is most kind and merciful to the faithful

Fain tawallaw faqul hasbiya Allahu la ilaha illa huwa AAalayhi tawakkaltu wahuwa rabbu alAAarshi alAAatheemi

Fa'in Tawallaw Faqul Ĥasbī Allāhu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa `Alayhi Tawakkaltu Wa Huwa Rabbu Al-`Arshi Al-`Ažīmi

But if they turn their backs [on you], say, ‘Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god except Him. In Him I have put my trust and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.’
