Ash-Shams

Waalshshamsi waduhaha

Wa Ash-Shamsi Wa Đuĥāhā

By the sun and her forenoon splendour

Waalqamari itha talaha

Wa Al-Qamari 'Idhā Talāhā

by the moon when he follows her

Waalnnahari itha jallaha

Wa An-Nahāri 'Idhā Jallāhā

by the day when it reveals her

Waallayli itha yaghshaha

Wa Al-Layli 'Idhā Yaghshāhā

by the night when it covers her

Waalssamai wama banaha

Wa As-Samā'i Wa Mā Banāhā

by the sky and Him who built it

Waalardi wama tahaha

Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Ţaĥāhā

by the earth and Him who spread it

Wanafsin wama sawwaha

Wa Nafsin Wa Mā Sawwāhā

by the soul and Him who fashioned it

Faalhamaha fujooraha wataqwaha

Fa'alhamahā Fujūrahā Wa Taqwāhā

and inspired it with [discernment between] its virtues and vices

Qad aflaha man zakkaha

Qad 'Aflaĥa Man Zakkāhā

one who purifies it is felicitous

Waqad khaba man dassaha

Wa Qad Khāba Man Dassāhā

and one who betrays it fails

Kaththabat thamoodu bitaghwaha

Kadhabat Thamūdu Biţaghwāhā

The [people of] Thamud denied [Allah’s signs] out of their rebellion

Ithi inbaAAatha ashqaha

Idhi Anba`atha 'Ashqāhā

when the most wretched of them rose up

Faqala lahum rasoolu Allahi naqata Allahi wasuqyaha

Faqāla Lahum Rasūlu Allāhi Nāqata Allāhi Wa Suqyāhā

The apostle of Allah had told them, ‘This is Allah’s she-camel, let her drink!’

Fakaththaboohu faAAaqarooha fadamdama AAalayhim rabbuhum bithanbihim fasawwaha

Fakadhabūhu Fa`aqarūhā Fadamdama `Alayhim Rabbuhum Bidhanbihim Fasawwāhā

But they impugned him and hamstrung her. So their Lord took them unawares by night because of their sin, and levelled it

Wala yakhafu AAuqbaha

Wa Lā Yakhāfu `Uqbāhā

And He does not fear its outcome
