Al-Lail

Waallayli itha yaghsha

Wa Al-Layli 'Idhā Yaghshá

By the night when it envelops

Waalnnahari itha tajalla

Wa An-Nahāri 'Idhā Tajallá

by the day when it brightens

Wama khalaqa alththakara waalontha

Wa Mā Khalaqa Adh-Dhakara Wa Al-'Unthá

by Him who created the male and the female

Inna saAAyakum lashatta

Inna Sa`yakum Lashattá

your endeavours are indeed diverse

Faamma man aAAta waittaqa

Fa'ammā Man 'A`ţá Wa Attaqá

As for him who gives and is Godwary

Wasaddaqa bialhusna

Wa Şaddaqa Bil-Ĥusná

and confirms the best promise

Fasanuyassiruhu lilyusra

Fasanuyassiruhu Lilyusrá

We will surely ease him toward facility

Waamma man bakhila waistaghna

Wa 'Ammā Man Bakhila Wa Astaghná

But as for him, who is stingy and self-complacent

Wakaththaba bialhusna

Wa Kadhaba Bil-Ĥusná

and denies the best promise

Fasanuyassiruhu lilAAusra

Fasanuyassiruhu Lil`usrá

We will surely ease him toward hardship

Wama yughnee AAanhu maluhu itha taradda

Wa Mā Yughnī `Anhu Māluhu 'Idhā Taraddá

His wealth will not avail him when he perishes

Inna AAalayna lalhuda

Inna `Alaynā Lalhudá

Indeed guidance rests with Us

Wainna lana lalakhirata waaloola

Wa 'Inna Lanā Lal'ākhirata Wa Al-'Ūlá

and to Us belong the world and the Hereafter

Faanthartukum naran talaththa

Fa'andhartukum Nārāan Talažžá

So I warn you of a blazing fire

La yaslaha illa alashqa

Lā Yaşlāhā 'Illā Al-'Ashqá

which none shall enter except the most wretched [of persons]

Allathee kaththaba watawalla

Al-Ladhī Kadhaba Wa Tawallá

—he who impugns [God’s prophets] and turns his back

Wasayujannabuha alatqa

Wa Sayujannabuhā Al-'Atqá

The Godwary [person] will be spared of that

Allathee yutee malahu yatazakka

Al-Ladhī Yu'utī Mālahu Yatazakká

—he who gives his wealth to purify himself

Wama liahadin AAindahu min niAAmatin tujza

Wa Mā Li'ĥadin `Indahu Min Ni`matin Tujzá

and does not expect any reward from anyone

Illa ibtighaa wajhi rabbihi alaAAla

Illā Abtighā'a Wajhi Rabbihi Al-'A`lá

but seek only the pleasure of their Lord, the Most Exalted

Walasawfa yarda

Wa Lasawfa Yarđá

and, surely, soon they will be well-pleased
